Hi, Looking for a disk usage analyser that can look at all the files in in our public drives and determine what folders haven't been accessed for a while. Our public drives are full of folders that when you click in has files that haven't been open for years. I use WinDirStat to show the largest files but it cant do this. Any ideas? Cheers

Its Friday and i'm trying to create a script to shutdown the machines using the choice command to give a option to cancel. Heres what ive got @echo off choice /c:YN /n /m "This computer will shutdown in 2 minutes. Would you like to cancel this shutdown? Y to Cancel" /t:1 /d:N if errorlevel 2 (shutdown /s -t 0 -f) else echo. && echo Restart Canceled for 30 minutes. If I press Y then it cancels the shutdown. If I leave it to timeout it enters N but doesn't shutdown If I echo the errorlevel when N is pressed then 2 comes out. The cancel option works great but the shutdown option just repeats the script. Anyone able to help?

[sims] Discover cant connect to database but SIMS can?
DCUK6 replied to DCUK6's topic in MIS Systems
Just found it here C:\ProgramData\Discover\Discover.Designer.Desktop.exe.local.config Everything has been added by the installer. Just tested the connection using a UDL file and it says about a login failure because of its coming from a untrusted domain. There server is on another domain. That was on the sims database. Not sure how SIMS can connect though. -
Hi, Trying to install Discover onto the system. Our SIMS server is run by the LEA but they have allowed our machines to access the database. I have SIMS working on our machines and connecting fine. However when trying to install Discover it cant access the Discover or SIMS database. I've spoken with the LEA and they say there arnt any firewalls blocking the request and they had a quick look but didn't have any luck. Anyone had this before or know the answer? We cant contact Capita directly otherwise I would ask them.

Printers. How many and where do you have them?
DCUK6 replied to DCUK6's topic in How do you do....it?
Seems like you have what im looking to do. Printer in each office and ICT suite and a few MFDs. The problem is im trying to find somewhere to put the MFDs where people don't have to walk miles as that wouldn't go down well . -
Hi, We are spending a fortune on printer and toners. Its partly down to the previous tech buying rubbish Dells that are only supposed to be printing 20 pages a week and jam when doing that. We have printers in every class which means we regularly have to replace at least one printer every month or two. I'm thinking of ways to reduce the number of printers and reduce costs whilst keeping printer accessible. Where do you keep your printers? Do you have them in each teaching room? Cheers.

Thanks FN-GM. Managed to get through to a guy who's sending me a link that will allow me to change it using DNS as verification Found this number earlier but you need a admin account to log into to use it. I've just had to create a domain to call them.

Has anyone got a UK contact number for google? A few staff are still on the old system and we want to disable their accounts but don't have any administrator details. Cheers

Windows live install. Script gives dll error.
DCUK6 replied to DCUK6's topic in Educational Software
Hi Arthur, Yep, downloaded from them links a few days ago. Had a look last night and it seems to take a long time to run the script that im wondering if it just didn't complete before going into standby. Im just trying for a way of it waiting for the script to run before getting to the logon screen like MSI's but informing users what's happening. We've got some old machines so they are a bit slow. Had a look at the MSIs but there are around 15 that you need. -
Hi, Just trying to deploy windows live movie maker using the script. @echo OFF REM --- Check for an existing installation of Movie Maker on 32-bit IF EXIST "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\MovieMaker.exe" goto _End REM --- Check for an existing installation of Movie Maker on 64-bit IF EXIST "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\MovieMaker.exe" goto _End REM --- Deploy to Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/Windows7/2008/2008-R2 "\\fileser\software\Applications\Windows Live Movie\WLSetup-all.exe" /q /r:n /NOToolbarCEIP /NOhomepage /nolaunch /nosearch /AppSelect:MovieMaker /log:%TEMP%\WLEsetup.log REM --- End of the script :_End It installs it on all computer but not all computers can open movie maker complaining about dll files not being installed. Manually reinstalling windows like makes it work. Its happened on to many for it to be a shutdown during install issue. Any ideas? Cheers

Scratch 1.4 games that require programming to complete?
DCUK6 posted a topic in Educational Software
Hi All, In my last school the ICT teacher had these scratch games that that started easy and worked up. They weren't games that you just click the go button and play, these were thing like a maze and you had to actually program to get the sprite around. When you completed it would say well done and move to the next level. I've been searching for a while now, they may have come from a book or something. They wernt teaching how to make the game but you had to use your programming skills to complete them. Any ideas where he would of got them from? -
Quit work today. From tomorrow, sit in my boxers with the PS3 and projector on eating rubbish earning 40K a year interest (if google is correct about the interest). I would use the 15k a year in unused interest to purchase new thing meaning the interest woud never go down. Then at the age of 60-70 I would donate 200k and go on a massive spending spree to enjoy the last few years of a reduced life from too much ps3 and food.

Thank, Looks like InVentory in quite popular. Was thinking about building a PHP one and hiding it on the website but don't think I could create one with features such as barcode scanning for auto sign in etc.

Couple of clients have 10Mbps but show on switch as Gigabit
DCUK6 replied to DCUK6's topic in Wired Networks
Will give it a go sted when I can get on. Unfortunately its one of those computers that gets moaned about but you can never get on to fix it because they are always working. -
Hi, We have two Netgear Gigabit smart switches joined by fibre. The slow clients are on the same switch and that switch ports the problematic clients are connected at 1000Mbps however they are downloading at 10Mbps (transfer speed of 2mbps). Ive tried one of the machines in my room and connected it straight into the core switch and it downloaded at gigabit speeds. Swapped the wires. Used three different wall sockets, used two different cables in the cabinet. Updated the switch firmware. Still it downloads at 10Mbps. There are some old devices on the switch showing as 10Mbps.

Just trying to update two netgear gs724t switches using the useless smart control center. It only accepts the zip file containing the release notes but doesn't do anything with it even though the run firmware update was ticked. Anyone done this? What was wrong with logging into the web admin and just uploading the file. Edit. Sorry should have put in the wired network forum. Using my phone in bed.

Hi all, Some applications that you cant set default save locations for like word documents opened from the internet and google chrome applications give the error when trying to save This is because its trying to save in the profile held on the C drive and I have restricted access to the C drive in a GPO. If I remove this restriction it gives a different error saying you cannot save here, would you like to save in the user folder instead which is on the C drive. I don't want them saving on the C drive as this wont follow them round and cant be backed up on the server. Their documents are redirected. Cant imagine im the only one that's restricted and set the C drive to hidden. How do you get round it?
