Hi all, I am currently in the middle of setting up DEP for our school and have a couple of questions that I wonder if anyone could shed some light on. At the minute our current provision is this: 32 iPad Airs in a "bank" (shared devices) 10 SLT dedicated iPads ~15 staff dedicated iPads 25 iMac suite We are using Meraki (free) for our MDM solution and now want to use this in conjunction with DEP to automate the enrollment and deployment process. I have setup our DEP account with an Apple ID and 2-factor authentication (don't ask...) and our supplier has been linked to our DEP account so any new devices we buy will be preconfigured for DEP over-the-air deployment. Deployment process is as follows: User "unboxes" a brand new iPad and switches it on Setup wizard asks to join a wifi network (our BYOD network works fine) The iPads serial number is recognised as being "associated" with our organisation (as it is added by our supplier to our DEP account) The user is asked to authenticate with their AD credentials (not sure if this is 100% necessary but it works so oh well) A NON-REMOVABLE MDM profile is downloaded and installed onto the device (the only way you can stop users removing the root profile is through DEP apparently, thanks Apple... User is asked to sign in with an Apple ID Siri/iCloud setup screens iPad is ready to go. Can Profile Manager and Meraki be used simultaneously? In the profile Manager console, I am able to see the new device and put it into a group. I am also able to set restrictions (basically create a profile) and assign it to this group, however they never seem to be installed on the device. In the Active Tasks tab I am able to see the job waiting but it will be stuck on Pending forever. Why is this and does anyone know how I can force these settings to be pushed to the iOS device? The internet connection is fine and our iPad SSID doesn't use a proxy. Ideally we would like the process to be as streamlined as possible. So the steps detailed above, then an automatic install of our Meraki MDM profile, and VPP app assignment (the bane of my life). Does anyone know why our Profile Manager settings would be "pending" and not being pushed through?

Exactly the same as above. Running Mavericks Server on a Mac Mini and a thunderbolt 10TB storage array for our Mac client backups. All good so far!

Are we able to use Profile Manager to enrol devices here in the UK yet?! To my understanding it was linked to the DEP which isn't available yet... We use an enrollment profile exported from our MDM solutions console, unsure what your setup is and if that helps at all

Nope! Seems daft but any user can rmeove the root MDM profile. All other profiles pushed from Apple Configurator can be locked down but not the most important one!

We are also using an anauthenticated proxy with our iPads. We had all kinds of issues with Apps not deploying when we tried to connect them to our regualr proxy

This is what I'm most looking forward to about DEP being released in the UK!

Steer well clear of jailbreaking if you can, causes more trouble than its worth (and thats just on my own devices, let alone educational iPads) We had Staff ask us if we could jailbreak and install a nasty Cydia flash browser so they could use MyMaths, I just told them no!

Called our supplier Tramscom this morning to try and get their Reseller ID but they seem to barely know anything about the whole thing either... About time though, this will save me a lot of headache!

Hi All, We have a bank of 16 iPad Airs (iOS 8.1.1) that we are looking to deploy as a bookable resource for Staff to loan out for lessons. Also we have 10 dedicated devices being used by our SLT for reporting, meeting notes etc. We are using AirWatch as our MDM solution We build all of our iPads through Apple Configurator. The process is as follows: Connect iPad to Mac and wipe (if it has been previously used) Turn on Supervision and name the device Update iOS if necessary Let AC do its thing restoring the device Tick to install the wifi profile (contains proxy address) We then run through the initial setup screens on the iPad, enabling Location Services (AirWatch requires it) disabling iCloud, signing in with the SINGLE Apple ID until we land on the home screen. Then I go to Settings and check in the App Store tab that we are still signed in (sometimes this logs out - very annoying!) We open the AirWatch app and run through the enrollment process, this then dumps the device in the console and we can manage it from the web page. A couple of questions we have are: When we build a new device, all of the other devices that have previously been built get an on-screen prompt saying "this Apple ID is now being used for FaceTime etc on a new iPad". Obviously this isn't ideal as they are usually being used by Students. When rolling out Apps from AirWatch, our users are intermittantly prompted to sign into the App store on the devices (yes we are signed into the App Store/iTunes on the Mac we are using) WHY?! Is it better to create a single Apple ID to use on all devices or to create multiple ID's for each device? I have tested this briefly, creating iPad01@..., iPad02@... but we are now getting a "sign into the App Store" prompt that literally appears every 2 seconds on the devices that makes it impossible to use the device! We have a VPP account configured to our MAIN APPLE ID (the one we currently use for all of our devices, this works fine. What would the process involve if we wanted to create an Apple ID for every device, would we need to associate all of these to the existing VPP account? Does anyone have any experience with this kind of implementation using AirWatch? Don't want to offend anyone but their support is usually from overseas and English doesn't seem to be their technicians first language! Any help would be much appreciated!
