For the core I'd now go for the 5400R zl2 series which is the natural successor to the 5412zl v2 and 5406zl v2 even though they are still available. The new modules just have greater backplane speed and I suspect when the release the v3 modules next year they will only be supported full speed in this new chassis.

I'm seeing this on my nexus 5 and lollipop at work, very annoying but enabling and disabling the wifi will usually get it working.

Qnap is better hardware for the money software is good, synôlogy slightly better software in terms of polish at least but hardware spec for the cash not quite so great.

Yea sadly that profit at least in terms of the arm that deals with CMIS / Progresso seems to derive from inflating product and consultancy/ training costs rather than driving up market share.

You can install a public cert for the captive portal page but sadly if a user still tries to browse to a https site initially the https intercept cert still presents an issue on android / chrome unless you manually install the certificate beforehand which is a pain with BYOD.

It theory yes but if a school is happy with its current structure and agrees to continue to use the LA to baseline jobs and follow the same banding then very little has to change. Very few staff other than those involved with the work behind the transition to an academy really noticed the difference. Ultimately it's all down to your governors / SLT in terms of the scope and scale of the changes that are made during the transition, the move to academy status doesn't require sweeping changes however.

When went academy staffing structure and titles all remained the same including the head and the governors took on the directorship although they still call themselves and are referred to as governors. Pay scales all remained the same as well so I'm guessing a lot of the staffing changed are down to the establishment.

Not heard of that vendor, the hardware specs sound impressive but that says nothing for the software, reliability, scalability or support. Be temped to look at some more well known all flash or hybrid vendors myself. Nimble, nimbus, netapp etc

We use RM for broadband, package was reasonably priced and they will supply smoothwall or lightspeed filtering. Downsides are if you use there SMTP feeds they seem to get regular attacks and blacklisting. IFL change requests can sometimes take an age.

You connect a player to each screen, I think they do wireless ones and you manage them centrally via the server. You can mount them behind the screen to keep them hidden. Get some sales in and do an evaluation of some options is your best bet.

Each layout zone operates as its own display as such i.e. you can have one screen with 9 zones each doing different things and accessible by different people. You can do what your looking at, you would simply have oneplan player mounted on the back of each screen connected to the screen and the network and you can control them all via a single onelan server via a web interface, they can be displaying different content or co-ordinated via different schedules. Its very powerful but setup takes some effort as I say.

The screens are directly attached to the onelan server behind a wall in our case, it treats all 4 screens are one large screen and we carve this up using layouts, playlists and schedules with users given permission is specific add hoc areas on the screen or folders to upload photos etc without being able to touch anything else.

We have a single online appliance connected to 4 screens, all managed through the GUI. Initial setup is a bit of a faff but the delegated user access works well and is simple enough for receptionists to login and use.

Onelan is pretty solid if you want a complete solution.

No pricing as he's just an engineer but one word of warning he gave us was that in a number of cases where he installed SCCM to replace CC4 a lot of customers weren't necessarily prepared for the extra steps required for user management outside the management console .i.e SCCM is best teamed with something like impero. I'm thinking about getting some pricing from RM for this though as it sounds like they have engineers equipped for most types of installs now outside of the usual RM product range!

Curiously from speaking to an RM engineer they seem to do quite a few themselves including SCCM deployments!

Guest BYOD on its own WLAN and VLAN, setup some ACLs on the WLAN using the zone director and some rate limiting if needed. Transparent filtering with a Captive portal of some kind which requires users authenticate before going out to the web so the receive appropriate filtering and activity is logged? What do you have doing your web filtering currently and how is it currently setup?

Umm sounds like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and run cat6 or cat6a, yes bend tolerance is reduced on cat6 and 6a, god knows what is like for cat7.

Our core switch is in the next room and is all cat5e cabling so I was hoping to make use of this without having to replace or supplement with CAT6A.
