Love our Nimble but the prices people are looking at now vs what we where quoted a less than 18 months ago look to have inflated somewhat which is a bit of a worry in the future and pushes them out of reach for many which is a shame.

You wouldn't want iscsi and lan traffic on the same port / network. Unless your using a decent core switch you may want the iscsi traffic on dedicated switches as well, especially if you think your going to make heavy use of the 10gig connections.

I've just settled into the habit of replacing a small number of ruckus access points per year where support has or is about to be dropped in the latest firmware or speed and coverage could be better, much more sustainable than a wholesale refresh.

They play the long game though, they will get the ear of your SLG and bursar in particular and when your not around or have left they will make there move!

It sounds like the school in question already has a visiting tech and is after a solution that will provide support in between and provide project based work. This is why I thought a company like Select in Paddock Wood or prehaps System Professional in Hadlow Down (East Sussex) would be good. The main issue I have with EIS is they are a bit like cockroaches once they get a foot in you will end up with CC4 or EIS NET or whatever its called installed and you will be boxed into using them for all your IT.

EIS is a profit making arm off KCC and I'd sooner have an RM managed service than use them. Might be worth giving select technology in paddock wood a shout, Tim Walker is our education account manager and they do support packages for local primary / secondaries have have a pretty good team. We use them for occasional support and project work and are very good.

I really like vSphere, Esxi is arguably the best supported hypervisor and most feature rich, that said I can fully understand why people see it as overkill and opt for hyper v for familiarity and price. It's worth noting that although vmware licences aren't that cheap the basic annual maintenance and support is and the support is pretty good as well. If heard of people saying xenserver as best hypervisor for citrix but I've never used it myself.

I cant replicate the issue myself so I think it must be PC related, I'm not to worried though as most are happy typing in a password every now and again if it doesn't work.

I am happy to PM you a long list of reasons I don't frog but I had a firefly demo login sent to me yesterday which I've passed to a few of our main frog users I I'll bet that the majority will prefer it simply because its got a clearer workflow, is simpler to use and looks good.

I have found it not hugely reliable though I sat in a room with staff the other day doing some training and about a 3rd got the prompt again. Microsoft really need a more elegant means of roaming these details.

You've made me doubt myself but I've just tested again and yes they are going into AppData\ROAMING\Microsoft\Credentials and do roam with the user, no logon and logoff scripts required.

Thats not what we are seeing here the credentials are saving to %USERNAME%\AppData\ROAMING\Microsoft\Credentials and are roaming if the exception is removed!!

It is a bizarre setup, they give schools a free licence but if you want the full installations instructions, access to the knowledgebase or any support you have to jump through hoops.

If the hosted version of firefly will do ad authentication and internal drive mapping which they seemed to suggest it would and the price is right I think we would join several other local schools locally in dumping Frog.

It's a bit hard to tell in a 15 minute demo but it looks to be as full featured as Froglearn but an awful lot slicker. I was also impressed with iSams on the MIS front it would be great to see some of the smaller players grab market share and shake thing up a bit.

The same is true of VLEs everyone gravitates to Frog but it was nice to see some competition. Firefly looked really good.

The directory the credentials are stored in are not typically roamed but I managed to get it working here by tweaking the roaming profile exclusions.

Vulnerable to what bypasses?

I think its always worth having a scout around I know iboss has cropped up a few times which looks pretty good but that's without hands on. Smoothwall is great in terms of functionality but it isnt without its flaws I.e. interface and workflow is a little all over the place, many of the recent patches have been buggy at least for us, support can sometimes be difficult to pin down and issues that go to second or third line which aren't high priority often only get attention once the hit the SLA and the price is high.

Equitac is good you can automate so much you can just set and forget, it's not a ricoh product they just seem to use it over papercut in most installs, it's actually owned by nuance.

The list should be reversed those getting a MBE or CBE seem to mostly be normal people doing extraordinary things outside of work and those getting knighthoods or better look to be extremely privileged individuals getting high praise for doing there jobs wells.
