Our Nimble cs220 was setup yesterday, Ezat from Nimble did a sterling job of going through all the features and I can confirm that it lives up to the hype in terms of performance and easy of use. It took me a couple of hours to setup the volumes, migrate a couple of VMs and test and as of today I have all bar one VM running off Nimble storage. The poor old equallogic is looking a little antiquated by comparison.

Our Nimble is being setup tomorrow so I will let everyone know how it fairs next to our equallogic which has been faultless by all accounts.

Unfortunately moving to office 2013 isn’t an option at the moment, I’ve not had any issues with outlook 2010 and 365 mailboxes yet however I have installed a couple of updates recommended to fix a number of the bugs. I was hoping that there might be a solution similar to the one described at the end of this Generic server name to use in Outlook.prf - Email and calendar - Office 365 - Microsoft Office 365 Community that works for the current version of office 365. Although outlook will auto configure using autodiscover with just an email address and password the fact we are swapping over primary email domain name to a .org and the technical inability of many staff and students will just create confusion if I can’t automate the setup at first run.

Is there any way of automating i.e. using a .prf file to prepopulate the Auto Account Setup Wizard settings in outlook for users so it sets up outlook for an office 365 account? We currently use a .prf to auto setup outlook 2010 for users on exchange but i'm looking to migrate to office 365 and would like to automate user setup for outlook in a similar fashion but i cant see a means of doing this at the moment, any suggestions?

Thanks Andy this is what i understood to be the case as well.

Amending email address / creating additional alias for users, managing send as and full access permissions to mailboxes, delivery restrictions, delivery options, retention policies etc.

Currently scoping out an office 365 migration and I've just been told that when the source of authority is local (you maintain a local AD and the accounts are synced to the Office365) it’s not possible to alter mailbox properties on the Office 365 platform without workarounds. I.e. better to keep on exchange around? This doesnt sound quite right to me, surely once you remove exchange from the equation all the mailbox properties are managable from 365?

I will keep you posted, its a bit of shame we arnt using it for VDI or something that will really task it straight away.

We have been been impressed enough to place an order for install over the summer holidays, lets hope it lives up the the hype! They do do a 4 hour call out option but we have just go with some spare hardware onsite and next day support.

I think they will support frogos virtualised but not frog3 or the combo of both.

I had exactly the same experience I had always assumed the price we paid which is thousands per year covered both software and hardware support. During install they market the server as an appliance gave us no input with regards to spec or warranty, now two years later they turn around and go by the way you need to pay x for a warranty renewal from Dell and pay x for a memory upgrade. Ohh and no we don't support a virtual it virtualised.

We did 15% an i think our interest rate is around 3.7% fixed dropping to about 3.1% if you can do 20% but the real drops seem to be once you have 25% loan to value. HSBC seemed to do some reasonable interest rates for first time buyers on 2 year fixed rate mortgages when we looked at couple of months ago.

Indeed the IFA was looking at over £500 for my life insurance policy alone when i looked at the "key facts" sheet you get with everything now.

20% minimum .. that would be between £50-60k on the average house price here and if your in rented accomidation your usually hard pressed saving 10%!

Life insurance wasn't compulsory at least not with any of the mortgages we looked at. Mortgage advisors might convey that impression because they earn a healthy commission on selling the policies. Buildings insurance is compulsory for most but contents isn't and each lender will have its own terms I.e maximum excess. Our lenders buildings & contents quote was about 4 times the price available elsewhere.

Just been through my first house purchase and it can be a little bit intimidating if you’re going in completely bling , my advice would be to find a decent mortgage advisor would be to pay a little extra if needed and get good solicitor / conveyancer. We went with the Halifax and the mortgage advisor was brilliant and they offered us a good interest rate for the loan to value we were looking at and paid our stamp duty along with some cash back on completion. The Halifax panel conveyancing firm we used I didn’t rate much though, fixed cost which is great for budgeting but little more than a call center and very slow considering. Most of the lenders have mortgage calculators online now so have a look at these and see what comes out with what you have saved before going in branch. Most mortgage advisors / financal advisors will also push life insurance, income protection and home insurance, dont be bullied into the first two and be sure to shop around especially for the home insurance.

Providing I can persuade the powers that be I think we will be going Nimble, they have completely sold me on both performance and capacity vs the likes of an equallogic or lefthand. The SANs base around a supermicro hardware doesn't bother me, my only slight concern is over support turn around ( mitigated by having some spare disks on site) and the prospect of them being gobbled up by a larger player.

If you updating an existing 5.1 install and you can move the VM's around then during the day is fine. Updating vCenter SSO and update manager takes the longest.

Had the webex and it looks impressive, just waiting for some rough pricing, unfortunatly the look to be a bit more expensive than the equallogic and lefthand units we have looked at before and adding 10gbit apparently bumps the price up quite a bit. Its relatively new company as well so there is always that prospect that they might get swallowed up.

I have a webex with tomorrow looking a Nimble which should hopefully prove insightful but on the surface it looks pretty good.

Ozan can you please either email over the latest patch OPSD v2.4.59, or fix our account so the download works? I have PM'd sent support an email and i'm still waiting.

What kind price ranges are you looking at for the Nimble SAN's and what's the warranty and support like I've never really heard of them before but they look interesting....?

Core updating is still a pain but largely work now so rebuilds few and far between.
