If the core upgrade has failed you will need to rebuild I'm afraid. You can try doing a core upgrade manually same as you would the servers but I would hold out much hope

Take a look at https://www.reflectorapp.com/ seems to work well us in testing and looks straightforward to licence and deploy across a network.

Looks like Advanced Learning have ditched the free migration path now as well, this combined with feedback such as above means i would really like to look at alternatives. Yes untimately they are aimed at those intending to run heavy workload databases which can burn through program/erase cycles.

There is a reason why those drives are expensive, basically write endurance and consistent performance over a number of years, many use SLC flash vs MLC found in most consumer grade SSDs.

Why do you need support from your LEA cant you just just get it direct from the supplier?

Not surprising, lets see the evidence that the devices themselves are responsible for the better results at all.

You need to look at what the the users on these wireless devices will be doing on the network and i bet 80% of the time they will be using it for internet access. If that is indeed the case 1gb uplinks arnt going to be your bottle neck its going to be your broadband connection/ web filtering etc.

I’m assuming the AP’s don’t automatically pickup proxy settings and any required credentials though? Having some control over the firmware your using and deploying to AP's can be seen as a postive as well. Dont get me wrong i can see some benefits from using a cloud controller, i'm just not sold myself.

I'm thinking is the instance of Ruckus, at the moment I plug in an AP it it picked up the lastest firmware is applied and its configured and working without me having to touch it. I can tunnel traffic back to the controller and of course the APs only have to talk over the LAN where bandwidth is plentiful and If the controller goes down the APs still function. If I chose not to renew our support then all we would lose are further updates everything still functions I'm not sure what would happen with Meraki? Surely with Meraki APs some config is required on each AP before it can be picked up by the "cloud" controller?

I think serco are just cutting there loses, progresso couldnt have got off to a worse start with migrations now on hold until the summer so they can get things sorted. CMIS & Eportal are pretty stagnet and they have already killed off producing or supporting their own financial packages and they just dont seem to have be expanding there customer base either (or at least here in kent). Will be interesting to see what ACS do, hopfully it will be a positive move.

ARCserve? You can downgrade from backup exec 2012 to 2010 I believe.

Our WS1100 also serves around 600 concurrent users and we have no performance issues, have you tried a physical appliance?

Means it will probably be around £600 here which is just to much.

This is expected behaviour in Frog your best bet is to simply use network shares that users access directly while on site and map them through frog so they can access them at home where the download upload routeen will be required.

I was going to reply to each of those points but cant be bothered the simple fact is we have been using WS1100 for over a year and have none of those issues. Alot of what you have described is solved by using the trusted sites list and setting up sensible connection profiles. The issues with performance we certainly dont have with our ws1100 which copes fine and reports run in seconds.

I think we are seeing the slow death of the managed desktops. I can't blame MS this is the only way they can keep pace in the current market.

I think this is going to cause massive headaches for schools, businesses and current windows 8 devs.
