I've had similar for over a year, with TVs purchased (not by me I might add) that simply do not have the function. It's a TV and nothing more. Told staff to duplicate/extend desktop. They find that "too complicated" apparently. Other option is dual-screens connected to a VGA splitter is what I tried. Other than that, there's no fix - except buy the right kit for the job, first time around.

OK people, seeking the wisdom of the community here.... As we know Adobe Photoshop is still the "go to" app for photo editing. However being realistic: 1) Adobe CS6 being too old and no longer available for purchase 2) Adobe CC too expensive and complicated with shared/device licences and users signing into the apps (also been told we can't afford it) + plus our 8-year old Macbooks don't support it anyway. 3) Serif Affinity Photo does most of what Photoshop does and let's be honest, far cheaper, easier deployment etc. Also works on our current Macbook setup. I've asked a member of teaching staff to look into it for their feedback as that's pretty much the only real affordable option we have available - unless they want to go for using GIMP. The feedback for the Trial was so far "I can't get my head around it". Hang on, wait a minute - if you can't get your head around this - how did you learn "Photoshop" that's far more complicated? Nobody taught me it, didn't get sent on any course for it etc. I started from scratch and figured stuff out. I see if as a cop-out and excuse basically from them, as they can't be bothered and it's simply a case of "I want, I want, I want" as we all seem to get in Education IT support sometimes. I've done the proper thing and asked the input of the people who will actually be using the app and getting nowhere. Or am I being too generous and simply should tell them this what you get, tough. Does anyone else come across this mentality of people not wanting to be part of the solution, but part of the problem and not working with us?

That means you've not gone to the Autumn release yet?

We still use roaming profiles, but we're on a CC4 network. Looking into finally getting rid of them with RM, once we're all upgraded and on Windows 10 everywhere. Mandatory profiles are apparently not the best option now, due to this UE-V stuff coming into force.

I'll be honest - I hate SIMs updates. Every single damm time there's problems. We've had an issue where the Autumn version rolls out but doesn't get installed properly and essentially seems to stall during installation. Then the patch for the printing. Then staff who turn machines off, refuse to let me work on their machine with problems. 2-days off this means I can't get on with other work either.

Just tested a few and ours is opening the documentation which is PDFs in IE. This is what I get ....

It's 7.190.31.0 without the patch. It's 7.190.31.2 WITH the workstation printing patch. Plus ... they HAVE changed the icons as an earlier poster mentioned.

Been putting it off due to these issues, but did it today. Updated today and there's a patch for the workstation printing. It's prompting users to manually install the patch however. But our SIMS support company are on the case.

Sounds like a great teacher who is teaching kids to break and not respect copyright law! This sounds more like an issue for the teacher to choose if they want to do that, rather than a technical issue. Plenty of free videos and tracks that can be downloaded and used as examples for learning.

Generally with those Atom CPU#'s the bottleneck is the processor itself and then the screen of 1024 x 600 - sometimes doesn't meet a lot of the minimum specs for apps these days either. The CPU and chipset only supports up to 2GB RAM on netbooks.

+1 This. So many things in our world that get overlooked at cost because you can't see it on a spreadsheet and nice fancy graph.

The state of broadband in the UK is shocking. You have have a 10Gbps LAN at home and still only get 8Mbps on "broadband". They've got most of the country by the proverbials until they realise the internet is an essential need for today's society and spend the money on that, instead of vanity projects like trains nobody wants or asked for

Those netbooks won't benefit from the SSD upgrade. They're simply too underpowered. Had same discussion a couple of years ago and we just retired the kit from service. It'd already been upgraded with RAM etc we couldn't improve it any further.

I'm in a similar position, no investment in IT from the previous network manager or the school. When I started there was very little worth salvaging and a lot of neglect over the year. I'd honestly chucked away better stuff than kit we'd got here. Started to replace things over past 12x months but a long way to go. I've literally found yet another a bodge-job of a network cable install from my predecessor this morning whilst on another job. 22" 1920 x 1080 is pretty my standard I'd recommend and what I'd refer to as my baseline to be honest. I have a load of 19" (18.5" screens) that nobody seems to want. We swapped them out in our IT suites for 22" Full HD screens. I've even offered admin staff, teaching staff etc 2x screens but they don't want them. Honestly will admit I didn't know this, but good to know! +1 This ^ The only people who have 2x screens are: * The Head * 2x Classrooms with screens that have no freeze function on them. * Admin staff large 22/24" screens (touch-screen ones for some inexplicable reason) but been like that since I started there. Even I don't have 2x screens ... I have 3x 2x 22" and 1x 24", but they ARE my own kit and will go with me whenever I leave.

Exactly. Any school stuff especially involving students should be on a school-owned device. The only thing mine is used for is taking photos of error messages, vandalised/damaged computer equipment, serial numbers etc. What a fun and interesting life! lol I still disagree with that though, it should really be on a school device and not mine - but got bigger issues to solve.

Have you got any plans to role CC out to teaching staff/students? Aside from the cost of CC it's going to be a right b**** to roll out it seems.

Was this in the release notes at all? The confusion this is going to cause with staff all due to an icon.

There's a good example of making people read small serial numbers, instead of using a barcode or QR code - you might not have the original box after this time.
