Server P2V and full virtualisation (phase 1 in feb) & (phase 2 in easter). Once that has all settled down we will be doing a staged infrastructure upgrade! Cabbing all edge switches up with fibre between the switches (Some are currently running just standard old Cat5e) i might even be sneaky and try and get 10 gbit in place if i can convince them! Then after that it will be a managed wireless system and IP restructure (Give more address' to the student Wireless Vlan)

Virtualisation - VMware vs HyperV
Dkeen94 replied to BKGarry's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
VMware without a doubt used this at my last place and its just extremely easy to use. When i changed jobs they had some virtual servers on Hyperv 2008r2 but i have virtualisation planned in the early part of next year which is moving everything onto VmWare over two hosts! -

Unfortunately... without a cable tester you might have to keep going back and forth from the cab to figure this one out. Sorry to break the bad news! -
How would you... find this network point...
Dkeen94 replied to Joanne's topic in How do you do....it?
I would go down this route, aslong as you know what switch it goes back to you should be able to find mac address by looking at the ports on the switch. If it is a HP Procurve switch log into the switch and type "sh mac-address" it will list all ports and the mac address of the device plugged into it. -
Have had nothing but solid service from stone! have bought about 90 devices from them in the past 2-3 months and not one has failed or had problems

We use Stone USFF for our teacher machines but they are getting on now.

Dkeen94 replied to timbo343's topic in How do you do....it?
@truebluesteve i think the OP was referring to students in Years 7 - 11 not 7-11 year olds. I will let you know if i manage to dig up anything. -
Acceptable Use Policies - Y7 - 11 signing
Dkeen94 replied to timbo343's topic in How do you do....it?
We are thinking about going down this route but we are unsure whether there are implications that a student under the age of 16 can sign something on their own behalf or whether a parent has to sign it on their childs behalf. -
Acceptable Use Policies - Y7 - 11 signing
Dkeen94 replied to timbo343's topic in How do you do....it?
We currently use the RM system to get users to "Accept" the AUP before logging in and take this as a digital signature but from this post we are now looking at whether students under the ages of 16 have to have their parents sign an agreement on their behalf. -
Had a HP5406zl installed a few months back! Perfect replacement, does the job and supports 10Gbit in the future !

surely if they are .msi they should have something like /s or /q for silent installation? Have you checked to see if they have any flags like this?

Do you use Lesson Monitor at all? We only have the attendance module so we are only able to run reports based on AM/PM. Under Reports do you have Attendance?

School - Alert when x emails are sent to one person per day
Dkeen94 replied to steveJCUK's topic in Enterprise Software
When you say you are thinking of this from a safeguarding point of view what do you mean? Emails should only need to be looked at upon request from the right person and if it is justified to do so. -
Instaling Moodle and Wordpress in School
Dkeen94 replied to Harry1980's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
It is not a requirement to the best of my knowledge otherwise i would have heard about it by now! But i have just built a moodle server for internal and external use. I would suggest dedicated box or server with IIS running on it. I did ours on Ubuntu Server 14.04 with apache as the web server -
Moodle problem - Cannot access at all
Dkeen94 replied to witch's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Depending on the way the settings have been entered it should point at the whole of your AD. Did you say you upgraded? Im running 2.7 at the moment. Have any changes been made to the users that cant login? -
Moodle problem - Cannot access at all
Dkeen94 replied to witch's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
@witch Unixman beat me to it! Have you managed to have a look around your AD settings? If you are struggling with distinguished names and all that, try "Softerra LDAP Administration 2014". It helped me locate the right information to enter into the fields, just shout if you want help -
Problem is i have heard alot from people with ruckus kit that they have bricked their devices because of firmware updates! It seems so finicky!

How do I create a SAN Cert Request for JANET please???
Dkeen94 replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows
Can you not ask the LEA to request a SAN Cert from JANET with the names that you specify. When we get ours we have a list of names that are already provided within the SAN -
