  1. The meeting settings didn't help the situation but I have changed them now They were set to auto admit people in my organisation into meetings but it was also set to add attendees as presenters. So the students had access to add people from the lobby not just the teacher I have changed it now so that by default only the organizer automatically gets admitted to the meeting and everyone gets added to the meeting with attendee access rights. So only the teacher can add people from the lobby This obviously puts the responsibility on staff checking who they are allowing into the meeting rather than it being a policy enforcement (Which I would prefer). If the teacher is mid way through teaching and doesn't double check they could still add a guest so doesn't take the issue away totally edit Just re read your comment, in theory I have made it too restrictive and should set it too admit only people in your organisation and tell staff not to admit anyone from the lobby. This will make it easier
  2. We had an incident with an online lesson where students were leaving the lesson and then joining as a (guest). The name they used for the guest was inappropriate and they used the chat facility in the meeting to mess around The setting which allowed this was under Meetings > Meeting settings > Participants > Anonymous users can join a meeting I turned this off and this stopped the issue but.. Now when we try to have a meeting with an external person they get the following message: Only people with access to this org can join its meetings Is there a way we can have meetings with specific external people? but still stop the anonymous joining issue? I looked at guest access but this talks about Teams channels and not Teams meetings specifically
  3. They are a bit hit and miss. I have only had one projector it wouldn't work with so far I have been ignoring the key on the back. I got a Benq projector to work with Set and Freeze which is listed as working with ACER So most of the time I just work through all the options and just see which one works. The staff only really want the on/off buttons to work and freeze
  4. I used the powershell script shown on this thread: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/216221-teams-eoy-markdown-archive-re-make-end-term.html
  5. No, not to cleaning the laptops We have gone done the route of students having to use hand sanitiser before and after using the laptops. We also have laptops that only stay within year group bubbles to stop potentially spreading anything around the whole school
  6. I ended up contacting projector lamps for schools and ordering these: https://www.projectorlampsforschools.co.uk/universal-projector-remote-control.html They setup an account for the school and gave us a bit of a discount because we ordered 20 I have received the remotes today but haven't had a chance to try them out yet (I need to get some AAA batteries)
  7. I need to order some universal projector remotes, Does anyone have a recommendation? The one I ordered previously is currently £64.75! (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gyration-VP3720-Universal-Projector-Control/dp/B00CKAWKLA/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=vp3720&qid=1599555070&sr=8-1) I remember it being expensive previously but not that expensive I have found one that is £7.99 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/VBESTLIFE-Universal-Controller-Replacement-Projector-default/dp/B07C9WTQ1M/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=Universal+Projector+Remote&qid=1599549493&sr=8-8) but it says delivery November 2nd and I really need them before then amazon have a few others but they only have 1 or 2 in stock. I need to order at least 10
  8. Just wanted to say a quick thanks to this thread I had a few laptops showing this issue and found that changing the reg key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet > EnableActiveProbing > set to: 0 resolved the issue for me
  9. We purchased some laptops during lock down and they were used when Year 10 came back in At the end of each day the laptops were wiped down with Dettol surface cleaning wipes We have started to rebuild and sort the laptops out ready for September and have found 3 with keyboard issues. You press 1 key but all the other keys around it are also entered I opened a support call with a HP engineer who has just been out and replace the keyboards but he said he suspects that some of the solution from the wipes had gone between/under the keys and caused the issue. Thankfully he said he would still replace the keyboards under the warranty for us Has anyone else had this issue? Is there anything else we could use that will be safer to use?
  10. I got a letter in November last year saying that there was going to be a new version of Gridstore coming soon I emailed someone at LGfL about it and was told that they had almost completed the negotiations on the procurement of the new product and there would be an announcement soon. They also confirmed that the new product would allow you to backup and restore virtual environments. I haven't heard anything since but since then we have had a Christmas break and COVID-19 so it could well be that their priorities changed or the procurement negotiations didn't go well.
  11. This is probably the easiest solution to doing it and my most preferred. As you say I don't want to end up in a situation where i am getting emails saying you recommended this and now it doesn't work The idea has partly come about because we have seen some companies selling cheap devices in bulk to schools. This is fine if buying as a school but not if individual families want to buy a laptop. It may even be a case of we could recommend a supplier of cheap devices rather than a particular device
  12. I have been asked to look at possibly recommending students a laptop for home use especially the new intake for next year We aren't looking to go down the one-to-one route. More of a if you wanted to buy a laptop to use at home to do homework we recommend XYZ. It would ideally be more of a budget laptop than a gaming one (Although I know what the students would prefer) I would just find a laptop and share a link but I know from experience some can have a high turn over. So I may recommend one and within a week it will be sold out and not available Has anyone done this before? Or have you even gone down the route of purchasing/selling laptops to students? Or been a go between? where they buy the laptop from a third party but because they are all coming from us there is a discount? We use Microsoft 365 so I would rather stick to a windows solution rather than a Chromebook or iPad is possible
  13. I have a raspberry pi running Nems Linux: https://nemslinux.com/ It's essentially Nagios with alot of the hard work done for you
  14. Hello We have Office 365 groups for all our teaching groups with the relevant teachers/staff added Currently when a teacher emails the Office 365 group the email goes to the group mail box (not to the individual members of that groups inbox). I have been told this is causing an issue because staff/students are not checking their groups mailboxes so are missing emails I have pointed out to staff/students that they can opt in to getting it sent to their inbox by going to the group and pressing “follow in inbox”. I have been told students won’t do this so the issue still remains I can click on the group in Office365 admin and there is an option to “send copies of group conversations and events to group members” Is there a way of bulk enabling this for all our groups (we have loads)? I don’t want to spend hours ticking it on individual groups manually
  15. Yes, Thank you After trying a few other things yesterday evening I worked out that this was an SMB issue In the end I bit the bullet and joined it to the domain. Everything seems to be working so far, fingers crossed it stays like that
16. Hi We have a stand alone visitor sign in system, which is not joined to the domain. It is running windows 10 1909, it ticks along nicely doing its own thing so I would prefer to leave it as stand alone and not join it to the domain. It has a local printer connected to it which prints out the visitor passes It has a piece of software which is installed on a domain joined computer which allows us to pre add visitors and print the passes File and Print Sharing has been setup and working fine allowing us to print from the domain computer to the local printer. All of a sudden it has stopped. In explorer I was previously able to browse to \\Visitor-sigin and it would list the shares but now I get a "Network Error" message as if I have typed the wrong name (I haven't) it does the same thing if I try to browse via the IP address. I can ping the computer fine and can connect to it using RDP fine I have tried turning the firewall off on the sign in system, The network connection has File and Print sharing ticked, In the sharing options network discovery and file and printer sharing is on, password protected sharing is turned off. I can't think of anything else to try, have I missed anything?
  17. We use RM Unify and it works really well for us. We have the single sign in setup and RM Unify set as the users default web page. We have links to things like GCSEPod, Doddle and Office365 I think the licence cost is based on the number of students so you might be able to get a discount
  18. Hi Ed The first place I would check would be C:\Users Another thing I would try would be to login as the DH and then open Word or Excel and then look at recent files. This should then give you a file location and at least somewhere to start looking If your using roaming profiles you could also check the DH profile on the computer/server to see if any of the files have been saving to there
  19. I came into work Monday to find our Dell Poweredge R440 offline and a pink screen reporting a hardware error. I restarted it and all has been fine since I contacted dell and sent them some support logs. They said our hardware seems fine but the error was most likely cause by an out of date BIOS version So they have sent me a list of updates and bug fixes, which means I will be doing the same as you
  20. I had this issue with a failed update before I opened the SQL Server Management Studio, expanded Databases and right clicked on the sims database and selected properties On the left select Options and then next to Restrict Access change it from Single to MULTI-USER I then re ran the update from Solus and it completed OK
  21. We are cracking down on students turning up to school late this year and I'm trying to find the best way to record this in sims. When a student is late for school they automatically get a 30 minute detention that day So I need to find a way if possible of assigning a Behaviour Incident to a student with an attendance make of L I know staff can right click on a student on the register and "Add Behaviour" but I didn't know if there was a way of searching for all students with an L mark then assigning the Behaviour Incident to them Is there then a way of bulk assigning the same students to a Detention in sims At the moment teaching staff are doing their registers and marking students with an L if they are late An admin person is checking the L marks and then adding the Behaviour incidents to these students We then have a separate person that then creates a register of students that are late so that staff have a register for the daily detention (This is currently done manually and we don't currently use the sims detention for this) I am looking for a way of either automating the process or simplifying it, if possible
  22. This is the page that can be used to show on a TV or screen to give you an overview Here is the Adagios overview page. From here you can check on hosts and their individual services My favourite feature and the one I find most helpful is the email notifications Yes, I have ours running on a raspberry pi 3
  23. I recommend NEMS https://nemslinux.com/ Its nagios but all the setup has already been done. We have it running on a raspberry pi
  24. Sorry, 2 is almost full and 1 is full
