Since yesterday, I've been experiencing a slow Internet connection. Nothing new there I thought and got on the blower to Synetrix. However, I was surprised when I fired up IE7 by accident to find all the pages loading just fine. I tried FF again, same problem, very slow loading any pages. Tried IE7, perfect. So, I'm baffled. What could be causing FF to run slowly? Nothing has changed since my last successfull usage...

I've caught many male students and a few male staff, but never as yet heard of a female case. I don't know why, it just seems surprising.

Can't get it to boot even into the floppy :S

We had a load of IBM ThinkPads that were put in before I started, and they were very heavily vandalised and totally messed about with. Some of the laptops had BIOS passwords put on and some had a password put on the hard drive so I am locked out of even booting into Windows. Is there anyway I can unlock the BIOS password on the machine? Last time I called IBM, they wanted to charge us near enough £300 or so per locked BIOS/Hard Drive! 8O

I read somewhere there is a loophole that you are legally allowed to open the machine to say your checking that you got what you paid for, without voiding the warranty. Not sure if it is true, but it is food for thought.

I've just noticed this problem appear on 2 of our Sahara projectors. I suppose it'll need to go for repair. Has anyone else experienced it? What causes the fault?

No, I'm pretty sure no MST has been created. Because there isn't one there. Also, the Installation is done per machine. Not per user. How do I check if the installation has changed?

When our network was setup the engineer setup a share on our server that had the SMS Advanced Client and we simply ran the Client.msi from the share (\\Server\GPOSMS) and it installed the SMS Client happily. Silently and without any interaction. A policy was also setup that new PCs would install SMS once they ran the policy for the first time. Simply by Active Directory deployment. The first image shows the GPOSMS share. The second image shows a share that was presumably created when we installed SMS SP1. However, albeit it looks similar, the client.msi doesn't install silently and requires "Next" to be pressed twice and then finish. I've never deployed using group policy before, so I'd like to know 2 things: 1) Why does the installation not behave like the client.msi in the GPOSMS which is totally silent and only displays a progress windows. 2) How can I get the updated client.msi to deploy using group policy silently? I've tried reading Microsoft's documentation on installing the client, but I'm lost!

I just spoke to a Sharon Northover at Promethean, and she's asked for £25 for the msi version of the software. Bit better I guess, but still unacceptable that we need to pay for something we've already paid for!

I called support who redirected me to sales and asked for £100 for the msi. I told them to get lost. Why can't they just make the installer an msi in the first place!

That all depends on exactly how many people actually watch UKTV and other Virgin channels on Sky. I think the majority of these viewers are from Cable as opposed to Sky because Sky have a much wider range of Channels in the same Genre.

I'm glad Virgin have done this too. It's about time someone stood up to Murdoch and his bloody self created monopoly. It's seems that someone is Mr. Branson. Also looks like this situation may not be resolved seeing as Virign have already signed up a deal to broadcast Lost. However, it'll be very surprising if we ever see 24 on Virgin exclusive TV, because 24 is made by FOX, who are owned by Mr. Branson's best mate... Rupert Murdoch![/sarcasm] The BBC are happy with the news because according to them, the biggest losers are gonna be Sky News. 8m Freeview viewers, 3.5m Cable viewers won't have it anymore, so it looks like its BBC News 24 FTW. I presume sometime in the future Virign will remove UKTV, Bravo, Ftn, etc from Sky and it'll be full blown war! Did anyone ever watch Sky Travel?

Well, I went to see the flat at 5pm yesterday, just before the agent closed and told him I would call this morning. So I did, just after they opened at 9:30am and told him I would come to see him after work to place the deposit. He tells me someone else has agreed to pay a higher rent and already placed the deposit. Bloody hell, I knew the property buying sector was cut throat, but damn, I didn't know that renting was just as bad. Looks like it's back to the drawing board! I've been happilly living at my parents house using Cable broadband since the days of 512kbps @ £24.99 (Damn, that was a long time ago!) Since then I have got married, wife had a baby girl and not forgetting the speed upgrades! So anyway, life goes on and living in 1 room in a packed house of 8 is not so comfortable, hence, I'm gonna be moving out on rent come the end of this month... In to a Non-Cable Area! So, I have to go down the dredded route of ADSL, and I can't even get Cable TV so, I'm gonna have to shell out extortionate prices for Sky! Anyway, it seems a BT phone line is an enevitability. However, who should I turn to for ADSL. Ironically, Virgin Media seem to have a decent offer for Non Cable customers, offering "Upto 8Mbps" ADSL and Free Nationwide Calls for £20 a month. However, I'm worried about the "Upto 8Mbps" this could mean anything from 512kbps - 8Mbps. Not only am I looking for a good deal, but also, for good customer service. My collegues have had absolute nightmares with BT and Talk Talk (Like going for months without Internet). So they are a no no. Also, I am a heavy user, so Unlimited Downloads at High Speeds are a must. I was interested by Bethere.co.uk, but again it is "Upto 24Mbps". I'd also like to use my own ADSL Wireless Router if possible. I may go and buy a decent Linksys. Any recommendations?

Phishing Filter is disabled too! Bloody IE7! Still refuses to work!

No, it's a machine I use at home - No proxy. I've tried pinging the urls and I can reach them fine. It only appears to affect IE7. When I try in Firefox, I can't get to the sites.

I've tried blocking some websites by adding them to my hosts file. However, for some reason it's stopped working. (i.e The websites are still working even though I have re-routed them to the local host) I've used the usual method: E.g. 127.0.0.1 runescape.com Is there any reason the file isn't doing what it should be? I've cleared my cache. Flushed the DNS, and checked that ZoneAlarm isn;t messing with the hosts file. Any ideas?

Does anyone have an MSI for Google SketchUp 6?

I have my Acer Ferrari F-19 setup using a DVI input. Whenever I switch on my PC, as it is going through the POST, when I access the BIOS and during Windows boot up, I have a message in the screen saying "Input Not Support". It goes away once booted into Windows, but it's a pain when I wanna access the BIOS. It doesn't show the message at all when I use a VGA input. Any ideas what could be causing this?

So DVI is the all new (well, not exactly new anymore, but you know what I mean!) format for displays. What exactly is the advantage of it over VGA? Can you really notice any difference between the 2?

Can't this all be done using Remote Desktop?
