We deployed IE7 almost as soon as it came out. Infact, now I integrate it into our XP images. I am using the GPMC, but how can I use it to resolve this issue?

We've already exhausted all those possibilities. We've unblocked all inheritance. We've put the settings in all the GPOs. Staff, Students and PCs. Taken them all out, tried it in just the DDP, and put them back in again. Still no luck...

For a while now we've been experiencing a problem where users are unable to access the Internet after a PC has been rebuilt. When they start IE, it sits for ages trying to access the page and then fails. This is fixed if we log in the the machine as an Administrator. We're having to log in to all PCs that we rebuild as Administrator, only once, and then start IE. It then gets to the Internet fine and doesn't complain again unless rebuilt. Does anyone know what the problem might be? We have Bloxx as our filtering server and this problem has been noticed since Bloxx was installed, however, they have been unable find any issues. We use Bloxx as a proxy server and the proxy is pushed through to all machines on the network using the Default Domain Policy.

I've downloaded a data update and started playing this again seeing as my PC can hardly play anything else of interest!

Yeah, I was worried about this too, therefore storing isn't my highest priority. We just need to be able to see as the number 1 priority.

I’ve just moved in to a new flat and have a bit of a problem with a blind spot. Whenever anyone knocks on the door, we are unable to see who is. The entrance is a communal entrance with a double glazed door that then splits into a small communal space with 2 fireproof doors. (Solid wood doors, no view windows or peep holes) I can’t see through the windows in the front room because they come further out to the front of the house than the door entrance, hence the blind spot. I was thinking of putting up a camera so that we could see who is outside as well as security surveillance. Would the best option be an IP Camera? Obviously it would need to be “weatherproof” as it will be outside. I don’t have a TV, VCR or DVD Player/Recorder, so I would need a solution that would fit a PC, and be able to record to a hard drive. I’m thinking that the IP Camera solution would be best because the person living upstairs would also like the ability to view who is outside when someone knocks so presumably I can link it to a domain name. Would anyone have any suggestions? I’m hoping for something cheap, but £100 is my absolute maximum although I’d rather not go that high.

Sorry, I totally forgot to mention, I wanted this solution for home. We already have WoL enabled on our network using a util called RW.exe and all it requires is the MAC Address. So, personal home solution please!

Is it possible to install any (free) software that will enable me to remotely wake up my PC over the internet? I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE775-G (Rev. 1.1) Motherboard. I think it has Wake On LAN, but I'm not sure. However, is there an alternate way of doing this? I am on a static IP too, if that helps!

I'd rather use Windows. Much more comfortable with it than *nix

I'm a complete n00b when it comes to Apache, MySQL etc. I'd like to test and work on the Joomla package but have no idea how to set up the backbone structure. Is there any guide out there that will take me from step 1 to the end? Guide for dummies!

Well, I haven't really had much exposure to the looks of the final products, but looking at the backends of both Fronter and Sharepoint, I certainly felt more comfortable with Sharepoint than I did Fronter. Looks wise though, it does help if it looks good and personally, I can't see what about Fronter does!

True, I can understand that, but if you've seen Fronter, you'd probably go for Sharepoint any day. I know I would. At least it glisters! Fronter doesn't even manage that! What problems have you experienced with them because I'd be interested to know.

I just had some training in Fronter recently (all of it went completely over my head, but oh well...) and well, after seeing the deep technical roots, and also some of the final solutions some school currently have in place, the first thing that hit me was I have seen year 7 student do better designs than this! 2 years ago at BETT, I saw a company called LP+ do a presentation of their Sharepoint based VLE on the Microsoft stand and it looked damn impressive! To date, I have yet to see any Fronter setup that is remotely anywhere near the standard of their Sharepoint solution and this is 2 years later. Just playing around with changing the settings was a tedious process, changing 1 setting and then refreshing the page, in a page that had 100s of settings, administrative nightmare is the only vision I can see. I was totally lost in the myriad of rooms and corridoors. I can't say I'm surprised it is being forced down our throats by the LEA because the LGFL signed them up. I mean, just look at Digital Brain, personally, I think that says it all, moving from 1 useless system to another slightly better, yet still such a poor implementation of a good idea.

I've had a search and found the technique of using software restriction, in my case... K:\*.exe K:\*\*.exe K:\*\*\*.exe However, the K:*.exe won't work, so I have to keep doing the \*\*\*.exe technique, but this is not fool proof. Is there a way to block it on all subfolders too?

These are fast becoming a huge nightmare! I'm trying as much as I can to grab them off student USB flash drives and apply hash blocks in Active Directory and apply block policies using AB Tutor. However, there are newer versions coming out all the time. Also, some stuff you can't apply AB Tutor policies to. E.g. Microsoft Office Word 2007 in the title bar just appears as Microsoft Word. Can't block that because we want them to run Word, just not off their pen drive! Other interesting stuff I found was: UltraSurf - Gets the current proxy address settings on the PC. Tries to bypass WLM Lite - Portable Windows Live Messenger. Deskspace - Really cool application that allows you to have 4 independant desktops. You can switch desktops by a custom key press in a cube like effect and the open windows from the other desktops disappear until you activate them again. Actually really cool! lol Then the usual suspects - Portable Kaspersky, Portable Adobe CS3, Portable Nero, Portable LimeWire, Portable utorrent, the list goes on! I even found a portable version of AB Tutor. I've emailed that off to Andy at AB Consulting for further investigation. I have USBDLM assigning Flash Drives as K: L: and M: repectively, can I block all .exe, .bat .cmd .vbs etc running at all from flash drives?

Is it possible to search a shared area on the network and only display files with a particular user as the owner? There are 100000s of files in this particular area and searching all of them and sorting by user is a VERY long process, so I'd like to know if there is a program that will allow me to do this.

One of our servers failed that were running Windows Server 2003, we have since rebuilt it using Windows Server 2003 R2. Do we need to purchase a new license or will the current Server 2003 license apply to R2 as well?
