Fixed! You won't believe how silly a fix it was, it didn't like the fact that I was using both the VGA and DVI inputs. The minute I disconnected the VGA, it burst into life! It's silly! There must be a way to get it working, for example if I was using a Dual Monitor setup. I'd want it to work, but I'm not for now so I'll leave it at that.

It had been a while so I decided to do a format. I reformatted and reinstalled all my applications back to the state I had before the format, however, since the format, all my videos no longer play properly. I can hear audio, but get a black screen. The same goes for my TV Tuner. It comes with its own software. But again, audio but no picture. I tried watching Divx videos on Stage6 - same problem! I've got the K-lite Mega Codec Pack installed and I am sure I have the same level of codecs as before the format. However, here is where the problem gets weird. If I turn off Hardware Accelaration or if I go to dxdiag and turn off the Direct Draw then the videos work, but they are quite clearly "fuzzy" rough edges and movement lines. If I update my GPU to the latest drivers, then it goes all haywire. So I am currently using nvidia forceware release 94.24. Is it my graphics card that is causing the issue? Why would a format cause the issue?

If the users re-saves the document on the current workstation then it still prints to the printer local to the workstation the document was created on. If the user copies the contents of the document into a newly created file, it will print to the correct printer in that room. But when they save the file and open it in another room, it will print to where it was created again. This is not a viable workaround though because some users create multiple page documents and it can be a nightmare to, in essence, recreate the document again. I'm not sure if that script will work, because we currently already run a script that sets the default printer based on the machine the user is logging in to.

We've had a problem for a while now that I posted about on the old icttechnician.com forum that I never really got any reply from. Basically, when a user creates a document in Publisher, it remembers where the document was created and what the local printer is to the location where it was created. No matter where the user tries to open the document it will always print to the location where the document was created even if the printer is not available to the current user. So, my question is, how can I force Publisher to print to the current local printer. It only seems to affect Publisher documents and not any other Office suite documents.

Our permissions have always been set weirdly and not working to how we want. So, finally we are looking at fixing it. Ideally we would like all students to have the following permissions on their home folders: Administrators - Full Control Creator Owner - Full Control System - Full Control %username& (The actual student) - Full Control ViewStudentWork (A group to allow teachers to view the students work) - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read All of the above should be for "This Folder, Subfolders and Files" Currently the Ownership of the folders are held by the students. Administrators are able to view some of the folders but not all, usually the My Pictures folder. Is there a way that I can allocate "en mass" all the above permissions and fix the ownership to be set to the students (if it is messed up like we have seen in the past). If it helps, the students folders are set to the same as their usernames. Can anyone point me to, or write me a script, that will make this possible? Thanks in advance!

Well it's funny you say that. I've been using one of these at my parents house for years with relatively little problems, just a few minor issues that the official firmware updates have fixed. I've got a few "high-end user" friends who use them with no problems too. I've never tried the 3rd party ones but have heard that they are very good. Give it a try. Right now I'm stuck with Be's speedtouch which isn't so bad, but I'd rather have a decent Linksys in my setup once I get some finances sorted!

I've found this little utility that allows you to download and convert movies from YouTube into many different formats. That article is very useful, thank you. However, it talks about creating mass mailboxes and user accounts. I was hoping that there was a way of getting it to work without having to create teacher accounts on the admin server, because they like to leave their machines logged in despite us warning them of the dangers! So basically, I want Exchange to recognise user accounts from another forest and create mailboxes for it, without having to create the user accounts on the Admin Domain (Also a different forest)

We have Exchange installed on our admin server. Is there anyway to import the user accounts from the Curriculum Domain into Exchange? We'd rather not create User Accounts on the Admin Domain for teachers. The Curriculum Domain and Admin Domain are in 2 separate Forests. Don't ask why... I never set it up!

If I was to register a domain name, (for example, http://www.domain.com) and created a subdomain (e.g. home.domain.com) could I get the subdomain to point to port 3389 on my computer and therefore let me Remote Desktop into my machine? Currently I need to input my IP Address into Remote Desktop and it connects, however, does Remote Desktop allow connections using a domain name? (i.e. In this case - home.domain.com) My main reason for this is that I am on a Dynamic IP. Are there any good UK Domain Name Providers that will allow me to do this and keep their DNS records updated with my dynamic address?

I've been told that Exchange Server 2007 requires a 64bit version of Windows and that it doesn't work with R2. Is there any truth to this or complete pants?

I have 2 Hard Drives in my machine. XP installed on my master and Vista on my slave. I had to reformat my master and put XP back on. I lost the ability to boot into Vista. Rather than fix the boot.ini on XP and bcdedit on Vista, I thought, I'd reclaim the space on my slave drive because I don't use Vista. The only problem is I can't delete certain folders on the 2nd drive. I keep getting "Access is denied" Windows Program Files Program Files (x86) System Volume Information Recylcer $Recycle Bin I tried using Unlocker, getting System priveledges, still no luck. I know I could format the drive, but I have another folder that holds about 100Gb of data and I don't wanna have to start copying it all else where. So, how can I delete these files from within XP? As far as I was aware, XP shouldn't need to care about those folders, because they belong to Vista. So, how can I reclaim my space?

We're interested in getting Exchange server, however, I'm wondering what exactly the differences are between the 2 versions. I've seen this page, however, can someone please explain to me what "different offerings" are? What are: Storage Group Support Database Support Database Storage Limit Single Copy Clusters Local Continuous Replication Cluster Continuous Replication Also, I notice to get the Unified Messaging you need an Enterprise CAL. If we brought Exchange Standard, can we still get Unfied Messaging if we buy Enterprise CALs? Or do I need to buy the full Exchange Enterprise if I want to use Unified Messaging?

Which service am I supposed to disable? The only one I have found is "Software Update Services Synchronisation Service" I thought that only handles the sychronising between your server and Windows Update. I want to stop it doing anything altogether. It's installed on our curriculum server, but it's not running IIS so that is ok.

We're running SUS (yes, I know, still not upgraded) I was wondering is there any way to disable it from installing any updates on all PC's for a temporary time so that I can do some testing on non patched machines? I've tried looking for options but to no avail.
