Indeed, many years ago, we purchased iPod Touch devices (way before the iPad was released) and Groupcall Emerge just so staff could do registers on the move. Schools that have wanted to make the jump have already jumped to RM Integris or other Cloud platforms that have come to the game so much sooner than Capita. I'm sorry, but Capita have simply been bleeding schools dry with license and support costs for so long now that I simply don't have the confidence or patience with them anymore.

I too am disappointed by the timetable and I'm not convinced it's gonna be for us considering the fact that I need to address our SIMS server this summer. I can't believe Capita haven't thought about it and I'm led to believe by the vague costing statement that it is going to be high in cost. I'm seriously looking at an alternative like RM Integris. As for the GUI/UX, too me it looks childish with all the pastel like colours. Just because it's for Primary schools, does not mean the software needs to look like it's catered for kids. Don't Capita realise that adults work in schools?

As part of my preparations for plans to move our trust over to G Suite and take up more cloud services as a whole, I'm trying to put together documentation, training and advice for moving our users away from ActivInspire and on to using Google Slides. It looks positive so far, but one glaring hurdle I have at the moment is that I can't see any means of inking on a presentation. Is this feature available on Google Slides? Can it be achieved through a Chrome extension?

Is it possible to enable copy and paste functionality to Google Drive, so that users can copy and paste from Windows Explorer right in to the browser?

I just added 4 iPads in to my "grandfathered" System Manager network today. No issues. Maybe try reformat the iPads and re-assign DEP settings?

You know that LGfL offer USO AD Sync right? So they can automatically populate your AD with accounts for pupils and staff. All free with your LGfL subscription. For Target Tracker, you can do a USO export and create the accounts with the same credentials. Depending on the VLE, if it allows Shiboleth integration, pretty sure Atomwide should be able to help.

Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same position. I signed up the 2 schools I look after because it did what I needed it to do. However, it has been a bit of a struggle with ZERO support, but I made some good contacts with Meraki at the BETT show and they have ironed out a LOT of quirks and issues. Truth be told, I was very impressed with Mobile Guardians MDM solution, but personally, I like the option of having everything under 1 managed cloud banner with just 1 support company dealing with everything. Hence why I've got "Free" MDM at one school, but also in the process of rolling out Wi-Fi, switches and may be even CCTV.

Hardly RIP. It's still one of the best MDM solutions out there. Just because it's not free anymore, doesn't mean it's dead. AFAIK, it was the only vendor that offered a completely free solution which can be tied in with other network hardware such as switches, VoIP and CCTV all under one banner.

Can you manage the netgear switches? Nope, they're pretty basic from the looks of it. Do you need the new switches to carry both vlans? (might you want to use the extra switch capacity for the domain network) Yes, this would be really handy! Would all the switches connect directly back to the ASA? Maybe, but it doesn't look like there are that many ports on the ASA, so they may daisy chain off another switch

I've purchased a new Meraki Wi-Fi solution for our school and I would like to put it on a separate VLAN. I've only ever really worked with flat networks before and would like to try to configure this myself before I ask for help from any 3rd parties. We have 4 cabinets in school. Cabinet 1 is where the LGfL fibre connection comes in that goes to the LGfL Cisco router. This then feeds out to a Cisco ASA (All managed by LGfL) which then feeds out to some unmanaged Netgear switches around the school in 3 other cabinets, connected by fibre. I have asked LGfL to assign me a new IP range for the new VLAN that I would like to use with the 4 new 24 port Meraki M225 switches that I have purchased that I will connect up in each cabinet using spare fibre connections. Where I am a bit confused is what configuration I need to do on our servers and/or switches so that anyone accessing the Wi-Fi can communicate with the 2 data domains (Admin and Curriculum - Yes, I know! I've inherited it and will be getting rid of 2 domains ASAP!) whilst still keeping everything secure and not clogging up bandwidth. I do have the option of asking for help, but rather than getting a 3rd party to do it, I'd like to learn how to do it myself. So, any ideas?

Wow, I posted this thread nearly 6 years ago, but I was just remembering it the other day as I'd been updating some of our core package assignments from x86 to x64 [emoji12]

The Tesco was a huge convenience, especially for the personal wallet as a good old Tesco Ploughmans was around £1.50 - £2, whereas inside Olympia it was more like £5+ If you are coming by car, the Tesco in Gallions Reach is a 5 min drive away, but I agree, not anywhere near as convenient. Pre-bought or packed lunch is the way to save cash on food at ExCeL (Or have lunchtime pizza at the EduGeek stand and a smoothy from Smoothwall to wash it down!)

Maybe I'm biased (and selfish!) but I love the fact that it's in ExCeL, because it's less than a 10 minute drive from home or a 17 minute journey on the bus! In fairness though, I think ExCeL has much better transport links than the former location of Olympia and the District line train that TfL don't even bother to run anymore that is High Street Kensington - Earls Court - Kensington Olympia. I remember my last year at InfoSec, I ended up walking the bus route from Earls Court to Olympia and still the bus never caught up with me when I got there!
