Exchange 2007 - 2010 upgrade and co-existence guide
irsprint84 posted a topic in Enterprise Software
After a few days on a test domain I thought I'd share how I did the upgrade while co-existing: Install CAS role when installing Exchange 2010 on a 2008(R2) server (Exchange 2007 will still be active with webmail and mail routing) Install any rollups Create certificate from -> Exchange 2010 Console -> Server Configuration Tiny bit of downtime here -> go to server configuration -> outlook web app -> move external webmail address from 2007 server to here and change Windows DNS to point to here Create A record in Windows DNS called legacy.schoolname.com, Go onto Exchange 2007 server and change the external webmail address to legacy.schoolname.com Install HUB role Go to Send connector in organisational configuration and check both old and new server are in the 'source server' property Go to server configuration -> HUB Transport and configure receive connectors same as the 2007 receive connectors. Go to the properties of these and make sure the following are ticked: internal has basic, intergrated windows, transport layer and exchange server auth ticked and first three in 'permission groups' ticked, the same for the external connector other than exchange server exch unticked Go to the exchange 2007 box and delete the receive connectors there and create a 'internal' connector and tick TLS and Exchange auth and top three 'permission groups' are ticked as well Install Mailbox role Go to exchange 2010 console -> recieptant configuration -> Mailboxes then right click a old exchange 2007 mailbox and do a 'local move request' Move Offline Address Book from organisation configuration -> mailbox -> Offline Address Book right click and move Now I dont have public folders so not in my process also if anyone thinks I ve miss anything tell me -
"Elegant" Permissions Restoration?
irsprint84 replied to Gongalong's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
If I recall you can add $ like you were to make a new home directory to the end of their homes folders in AD profile and should give the share permission back to that student when AD already finds a folder Otherwise I think I have a program at work will sort tomorrow -

AMDs FX-8150 "Bulldozer" Processor - The reviews are out!
irsprint84 replied to Arthur's topic in Hardware
I liked my AMD k2 and thunderbird but I think they ve lost it but I appreciate their contribution to get big companies to sotp being lazy like: Firefox with IE (I remember Microsoft saying IE6 would be the last release!) pentium 4 (urgh!) AMD made intel re-think ARM and ATOM MSE, AVG etc.. and Norton and Mcafee (I remember swearing by Mcafee) -

this sounds better lastly when I m happy with internal mail and I change records over when staff hit webmail.grammarschool.com (when I re-point it) old ex2007 boxes will hit the ex2007 webmail box and move ex2010 will hit the ex2010 webmail box?
-
Now I m getting confused :/ I just want to make sure of no down time with dns settings lets say I have local server name e2007.school.local and new e2010.school.local and mx record pointing to e2007.school.local what should I change in dns and when?
-
so very very last things, when I move dns to exchange 2010 box when a exchange 2007 hits the exchange 2010 box it will automatically re-direct?
-
I only have a exchange 2007 box so how do I set it up for legacy? where in dns? where in exchange?
-
When microsoft talkes about 'legacy.name.com' is this done automatically? do I have ot set anything up for? or when staff hit the webmail.name.com at the exch 2010 box it will redirect to 2007 without me doing anything?
-
so did you do the legacy 2007?
-
urgh.. :/ I looked at co-existing but get confused with legacy.name.com etc..
