  1. I would dod the ciscos over micrsoft ones, I learnt all my Microsoft stuff with 'learn windows server in 24 hour' books If you show you ve worked in a microsoft environment for a year that'll be enough
  2. If a uni student came for a job with me and didnt have anything after that I would say 'and what else..?'
  3. PRINCE2 is very important, you just need to show continued learning, some uni students think once they have a degree that it!
  4. Why? if you want to leave you have to go to Interviews I ve always honestly gone to my bosses and said what I want to do and move on just behonest
  5. vb.net express, simple and free for students!
  6. Bad mouthing your manager is a no no unless its bullying
  7. Just be very confident in your interview, a course in only one tick box on the application they mostly care how you come off in the Interview and you know what you re on about and apply for loads of jobs and learn from the mistakes of the last interview!
  8. I agree you can be completely virtual, HYPERV mostly needs a physical DC, though you can bring VMs back up after power failure, I just like have the knowledge I have a physical one incase of power failure
  9. things I m thinking of but might nto be correct as never done before: *DNS issues, computers etc.. you conneted in period *Exchange Server/ Sharepoint issues? *Where are you FMSO roles? *You wont need to remove old DC with NTUTILS (I know spelt wrong) - Delete Failed DCs from Active Directory
  10. well before you even attempt a upgrade wait till backups are 100%! online backup of 600GB must be quite large
  11. ok I ll let you off
  12. Its redundant anyway might as well bring upa new DC and move roles over I wouldnt try and P2V a DC
  13. Dont ypu have a separate backup server? how do you normally do backups? what services are on this server? and why are you upgrading it as you sound a small place? 2008 r2 is great but it sounds like you dont have a backup system in place, if you did I would for example I would create your new server, do a full backup of old and restore backup to new server
  14. You can virtualise a DC 100% though always have a physical DC, dpm 2012 will actually allow you to snapshot a DC though not sure how this will work
  15. Global are great not had any downtime from them and it was installed last April plus not even had any random hickups either
  16. it can be like that, excluding London I see average NM of 23 - 29k I did see a 50k head of ICT in a private school in Middlesex for 50k! I m off to work for a University as a Systems Manager, I still sadly think IT peopel in schools get painted with the same brush when applying for non-educational jobs, which is a shame. Thankfully the university has quite a big IT Branch to move up in plus because they re a University they are allowing me to do a Masters because doesnt really cost them anything I was lazy until I worked for a call centre, I never want to end up back there again!
  17. ha! its possible in around three years I ve gone from 13k to 41k but I had to do alot of work for it! I seem to do well when economy in the crapper and rubbish when all is good!
  18. nope standard network manager pay I will only go for jobs that roughly double my last pay
  19. Last thing I will say is its a great school, everyone is great here only leaving because doubling my wage
  20. I love old comedy especially Red Dwarf but nothing rarely is like how it used to be
  21. in ye olde days I used turbo pascal and I would use this for students, very notepaddy though, it was ancient when i was using in in 2003 it will do the job though
  22. pascal including delphi is a dead language (I know it just about exists!) why not vb.net express? bonus points because free for students
  23. I just delete all thwe copyrighted stuff every so often with support from Head, just doing it now
  24. nope, just sccm 2007 is a pain! 2012 is RC so wait a few more weeks for that
