Depends on the spec of old and new. Fill the old and new one with Ram, install XEN Server on them, split new one as on DC and one file Server and old server one DC and one roles ie, wsus, antivirus etc.. I always try and seperate services as much as possible

I add this in 'group policy preferences' when you get the initial install of movie maker I did a search for all .msi created in last hour and copied over and installed through group policy. Dont just copy over the movie maker msi you need about 5/6 other msi of random gumpf

In theroy if your main domain controller (with roles) or backup domain controller (without roles) went down could you restore it from a VM Image or is it not advisable in both cases?

WDS is good, I push anti virus (sophos) through GPO with a script. Also you need to configure some setting on your switches but I cant remember what it is
