Thanks for the info, I was told by our LA that the router is theirs but the VLAN switch was paid for by the school so belongs to the school. My schools don't use MIS in the classroom so that shouldn't be an issue.

Can someone that has left or is about to leave EMBC please let me know what happened with their Cisco VLAN switch please. My knowledge is limited so please be patient. We have two networks, two sets of ip addresses. Currently the VLan separates the two but as we don't have the configuration details how can the new BB supplier keep them seperate? I have been in touch with our LA to be told that the switch can be reset but that then leaves it down to me to reconfig it (no hope there!) As a matter of interest the admin network is only peer to peer but the curricullum is 2008 server. Do I need to keep the two networks separate? hope this makes sense and someone can advise as currently I feel like I'm drowning in info

BBC News - Computer virus hits office printers I thought we had this at work but it turned out just to be the staffs inability to press the print button once and not to print numerous copies of everything rather than using the photocopier!

I've got Ruckus in my main primary, 3 buildings, main building on three floors (a big primary school!). Haven't had any problems at all with Ruckus since the day it was installed. Coverage really good even in places you wouldn't expect to get coverage at all. Am in leicestershire if you want to pop round for a look drop me a pm.

EMBC - whether to move away or not?
Smee replied to pingleict's topic in East Midlands Broadband Consortium (EMBC)
I personally don't care who reads my posts but I could do with suppliers telling me the facts rather than trying to confuse me with silly details! All I want to be able to do is give my boss the best information I can and at the moment I not getting any straight answers! I still don't know who to recommend, I am fed up with different suppliers rubbishing each other, with not being told the whole truth when it comes to which supplier will offer which service and with not having any real unbiased advise from anyone! I'm beginning to feel the pressure of responsiblity a little too much to handle, especially when Im not employed for this *%&!!! I'm sorry if my tone upsets anyone, thats not my intention. Maybe I'm naive in thinking theres honest suppliers out there, who like me want the best deal for my school -
EMBC - whether to move away or not?

It all seems to have gone a bit quiet with regard to moving away or not moving away from EMBC (EMpsn). I am still trawling through what seems to be an endless amount of info and need help sorting the wheat from the chaf (if thats the right spelling!) Has anyone made a decision on suppliers? Is there any where I can get independent advise from? -
Just had an email telling me not to expect any more info from Kcom until 14th March. I'm still under the impression that the powers that be hope primarys without dedicated or on site support will just opt for staying with what they know rather than what will suit them best Having only had one supplier price up how am I suppose to advise my schools?

I have to agree with you with regard to pricing and no clear details. I have been trying to find out the relative info for my schools (all primarys but different clusters) My problem seems to be trying to find the right supplier for access that may not be the right one for applications (services) . If I could pin down some prices I know it would make my life easier. I've had access prices for KCOM, RM and exa (not one of the companys that tendered) Ive also had pricing opitons from RM with regard to the services that they offer. I find it very disappointing that I haven't been able to find more pricing yet. I have an appointment with Virgin tomorrow afternoon so that will be interesting to see what they can offer, at what cost especially to a couple of my smaller schools. I wonder if the hope from some sectors is that if they leave the schools with minmum amount of info, some schools will decided that the easy option is to stick with what they currently have rather than whats cost effective. I do know that I could do with some help on this........... -
would that be the "word lists for printing" ? If so let me know where to send it to and I'll do it now

Let me start by apoligising, I did know how to do this but my brain seems to have turned in to pudding! I have 3 users that I only want to be able to log on to a couple of machines and not the whole network. I have done this before but have had to rebuild one of the computers and can't for the life of me remember how to restrict the users. thanks and sorry for my Doh moment! ;p cheers

We had levelone's a few years back but replaced them with HPs. think they were supplied by our LEA to all primarys in this area back in the day. All I remember of them is that they were really heavy!! not much help I know.

Promeathean ActivBoard - jagged lines when using pen
Smee replied to bertster's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Check where the powersupply is, if it's getting hot it can cause this. Also if theres another powersocket being used near the board this can also have the same effect. We had this on a couple of boards last summer. hth -
