  1. just a quick one. is it ok to delete the isa server log files located in c:\program files\microsoft isa server\isalogs\ just found that they are taking up rather alot of space and could really do to get rid of them if possible. i know they are only log files just wanted to make sure first before i do anything! cheers kris
  2. you can do this in gpo user congiguration ===> windows settings ===> connection ===> then double click proxy settings. you can then put all the ip addresses you want in there in the exceptions section!
  3. we don't even use our cache pilot its plugged in but i don't think its turned on. what sort of things do they use it for i know in the primaries i go to they use it for espresso and caching websites etc... but what use is it in high schools? we use isa server as our proxy much easier! kris

    Securus

Has any body heard of this or used it? Securus Software your thoughts please guys cheers kris
  5. rant doesn't bloody work that piece of shite software that switches the card on/off is doing my head in now found another laptop with a broken screen time to salvage some parts from it or simply just swap screens what ever seems easiest!!! thanks for the help though guys. no thanks to that shite software though which has been the vain of my life today!!!!!!! /rant cheers kris
  6. tried that when you uninstall that piece of software you can't turn the wireless on. i'm trying the latest intel driver with gina support i'll get back if it works or not? its like on oldish ibm's etc... that had a switch on the side to turn wireless on or off but this switch is software controlled. which is an extremely bad design!! cheers kris
  7. it is using windows zero config thats why i'm confused it doesn't seem to be that, thats the issue it actually only enabling the device when this piece of software loads and turns on the wireless net card. using 128 bit wep at the time being need to set up wpa etc.. during half term along with other things it does actually connect if you put the wep key in and it connects fine. cheers
  8. Description: A domain logon (MSGina®) with the AMILO M7400 and AMILO PRO V2000 is not possible with onboard WLAN card. Solution: Domain logon is only possible under WLAN Clients with GINA Support. This is not possible with the XP "Standard" Client and the Odysee Standard Version. The Odysee Pro version solves this issue. this may sounf thick but i'm getting frustrated with this laptop that some kid has destroyed the pcmcia slot with the wireless card that was in it and now it won't work i found this on the fujitsu siemens website. that is my problem , the only thing is that i don't know about is Odysee Pro what is it and where can i get it. the laptop did logon to our domain with a pcmcia wireless card but seems as this is damaged i would like to get the onboard wireless working. it connects to the wireless network if you log on as local administrator automatically with this daft software which controls a soft power button for the wireless. cheers
  9. http://www.bbspot.com/Images/News_Features/2003/01/os_quiz/windows_1.jpg it could be worse! this isn't my actual one, before you say anything guys!
  10. http://www.bbspot.com/Images/News_Features/2003/01/os_quiz/palm.jpg true i suppose
  11. the next point of call is the cpu. unless the memory you tried wasn't the same as the original stuff in the server as this may cause problems also try the ram from the server in this other machine that you have and retry the diagnostics kris
  12. cant you do a gpupdate /force to refresh all policies on that computer? worth a try Kris
  13. but if you put server 2k3 on one of the desktops you are taking the number of useable machines for students down to 14 which wouldn't be as practical, as most primary classes would have 30 or so children in them. i didn't mean generic but now i can't think of the word i actually meant to use. if you set the usernames up as class1, class2, etc... this would reduce the amount of admin actually needed with regard to passwords as each class teacher would know each one for their own class and the head would also have a list. set up each user so that their password could not be changed and your sorted with the user side of things. with a small primary like the one your at there is no point in making things complicated as this will only make things worse in the long run as in they will more than likely on the phone every 5 minutes asking what to do! cheers kris
  14. thats how how i work at the primary schools i visit. one username per class then a mapped drive redirected to my documents with a folder for each student that way its much easier for teachers etc.. to log kids on can you imagine a class of 30 year 1's remembering their pasword if they had one never mind the amount of time it'd take to log them on with individual usernames. another problem with that set up is primary schools don't usually have enough computers to cover one class so they have to share computers between children thats why a generic class username would work better than individual ones. sorry if that makes no sense i like to ramble on kris
  15. 300:1 or there abouts for me accross the 3 primary's and high school i look after! that figure just shocked me actually!!!
  16. supposedly their offering a free lift home there at the moment!
  17. i'm waiting for a surveyor type bloke to come out adn i'll be telling him fibre all the way!!!! (needs to call back and arrange a time yet though so i know when i have to come in over the hols!) just hope they won't charge to much for laying the cable! (they probably will)! could be nearing 11 pages now! get it up to 20 by finish tommorrow! cheers kris
  18. after reading all these pages gotta say what a discussion!!! cheers for all the help guys. kris
  19. sorry about that i only realised when i'd finished typing and then i couldn't be bothered typing it again. its just one of those days. had good news though possible pay rise tomorrow have just organised a meeting with the head and she wants to pay me more thank god i was actually strugling to live on my scrappy wage at the moment!
  20. AREN'T LASER LINKS QUITE EXPENSIVE THOUGH? THERE WAS A POST A FEW WEEKS AGO ABOUT THEM! AND IT GOT SHOT BY AN AIR RIFLE OR SOMETHING AND AT THE PRICE IT WAS FOR THE EQUIPMENT AREN'T YOU BETTER OFF DIGGING A CABLE IN RATHER THAN RUN THE RISK OF VANDALS TAKING OUT THE BOX ON THE WALL WITH THE PRETTY RED LIGHT? IF ITS ABOVE GROUND THEN IT CAN GET DAMAGED ETC... I FEEL THAT FIBRE IS PROBABLY MORE COST EFFECTIVE IN THE LONG RUN.
  21. its 10 m between the buildings it'll be alot more from the cabinet though depending on which one we go from it'll be quite a way for it to go and then to another cab in the new building definately fibre would be the way to go! gettin someone to come out and do a survey for us now so we'll see whether it is within the budget! if not it'll be time for the shovel!!!!!
  22. I thought fibre would be the choice! the building was put up about 5 years ago or so, there will only be about 3 sockets for teachers only going in as it is only a small building! what are the speeds like with a wireless bridge between them? the nearest cabinet to that point is quite a distance thinking about it!
  23. just had a request to find out what is the best way to communicate between 2 buildings, there is only a 10m gap or so between them so i was askin for advice on what would be the fatest way to do this?
  24. sounds good, whats the job spec like?
  25. you need to pay for a hazourdous waste lisence from the local recycling place i think ours £22.50 then you can take as many as you want to them then! http://www.recycling.co.uk/it_recycling.html weee has come into force earlier on this year (march i think) so your actually only allowed to get rid of 2 tonnes i think! (but don't hold me to that)
