Had a test drive in an Alfa Giulietta at the weekend with their 1.4 turbo multiair engine, haven't stopped smiling since. The multiair gives it an amazing amount of low end torque, bit like a diesel really, but doesn't have the lag of the diesel or sound like you're driving a tractor and goes like a bat out of hell... Very, very tempting, if it had a german badge on it I'd snap one up straight away, but with an Italian badge I'm a bit reluctant. Saying that, everyone should own an Alfa once in their life ;-)

Well, someone with Domain Admin rights needs to be trained to MCITP Server Administrator level as a minimum, so order the self study guides and point them to the nearest exam centre for them to sit the 3 required exams. When they've passed, sure, give em access.

First, has the share got read & execute permissions for everyone or just read? Second, if you login to the machine, can you browse to the share and run the msi?

Good idea, it would be nice also to have an option to mark the solution that worked as per some other support forums.

The desktop software will sync with Outlook, or if you have an Exchange server then you can use Blackberry Enterprise Server Express, which is a much better option.

Have a look at Ricoh, if you go direct to them you will get Catalyst pricing which makes them very cheap to run. You get charged a cost per page which includes toners and all maintenance including 4 hour on-site support. There are no minimum pages count charges, they are cracking printers, not the cheapest to buy but when you do the total cost of ownership calculations they work out a lot cheaper.

There are a lot of cabling companies who are very helpful to schools and would do a cable test for you free of charge, if you were up t'North I'd put you in touch with the company we use. Contact your local schools and see if there are any companies they recommend, wouldn't bother with asking the LEA as if anything like ours they'll use a company that charges a fortune:rolleyes:

Tbh, server hardware failure with decent servers is very rare these days.We had 15 physical servers and in the 7 years I've been here we had 2 failures of hard drives in RAID arrays which caused no downtime as they were hot swapped. What has caused nearly all our downtime is either environmental issues (air con failure, power failure etc) or software issues. Going virtual has reduced these problems dramatically by for instance pumping out a lot less heat, so our server room can now cope quite comfortably with an overnight air con failure and with greater UPS capacity due to less servers drawing load has a much longer uptime in case of power failure. Combine that with snapshots taken whenever any software is installed or updated so we have a working configuration to roll back to and we have a much more stable system.

It's probably the device connect/disconnect sounds, just change it in sound scheme in control panel, sound, speech and audio devices, sound scheme to not play a sound. Does sound like a dodgy connection somewhere, but if it's not affecting your use of the machine, then just disable the sound.

If you want to apply it to the computer OU, you either have to set the policy in the Computer Configuration rather than User COnfiguration of the GPO, or use loopback processing, but if you enable loopback it will affect how other policies are applied.

DFS is what you need if it's for file services. Active directory, DNS, DHCP you just run 2 servers, other things like print etc you run a cluster. Stuff like clustering would be cost prohibitive for a primary school as you need things like a SAN, but DFS and having redundancy on AD, DNS and DHCP is achievable.

With Ricoh it's probably best dealing with them direct so that you get the Catalyst (or whatever its called now) contract, which is the cheapest and also provides the best support service (4hr onsite response).

Try changing the print processor to winprint in printer properties, advanced, print processor. Had a problem with some A3 HP's which refused to print A3 until we did this, so might be worth a go.
