If you enjoyed messing with you SLR before, you'll have fun with a DSLR. The kit is fine, yes the lenses are from the bottom end of the Canon range, but they will be fine for what you want. Just go and have some fun with it :-) I still use my Canon EOS 450D with the original kit lens and a couple of others I have bought since, I'm a slow learner I suppose but I'm only just beginning to reach the limits of it and it's a pretty old camera now.

I use Canon kit, but it's also worth looking at the Nikon d3100 and also the D5100 can be had at bargain prices as it's been replaced by the d5200. Ideally go and have a fiddle with them in a shop, they are all great cameras but it's how they feel in your hands and if the controls feel in the right places that makes the difference.

It's really daft, F1 has become an endurance race when it's meant to be a full out sprint race, Le Mans especially in the LMP1 category has become a 24 hour sprint race:confused: Get rid of these daft tyres that you can't race on and go back to consistent tyres with decent mechanical grip, get rid of DRS, allow only two elements to the front wing extra little winglets etc, bring back a very restricted form of ground effect and give KERS a boost. Also, only communication between pitlane and car to be via pit board. Now lets go racing Oh and lets go back to engines that make your ears bleed when you're sat in the grandstand and they're revving up for the start;)

If you are going 2012 DCs then you don't need a physical DC as it supports virtualisation properly.

Any of the well known brands are fine, if you haven't heard of it or they seem too cheap then avoid. Also avoid 'own brand' stuff from big tyre fitter chains, they're real ditch finders.

Just take short breaks from the screen every hour, every 10-15 minutes squeeze your eyelids together for a few seconds to rehydrate the surface of your eyes.

Most of the custom server builds are based around either Intel or Supermicro kits, take the lid off and see if there are any model numbers on the motherboard and also see if the raid controller is integrated, in which case the drivers may be available from the motherboard manufacturers. There were quite a few RAID controller manufacturers who disappeared around 2003, some folded or were bought out and their tech incorporated into other vendors kit, so you might not have a great deal of success finding drivers. You could try forcing the 2003 drivers onto it, that sometimes works.

So is mine. Exactly the same email went out last year, it's just doing the rounds again this year with the year changed. It gets emailed between the sales guys and they just see ££££ commission and send it out.

It's been going round for a couple of weeks apparently, same thing happened last year and again some 'helpful' (ie drooling at the commission) account managers sent it out trying to get people to panic buy.

From MS, via our licensing supplier. There have been some changes in internal pricing structures at MS, but it doesn't affect end user academic pricing.

We had similar problems with our new Dells, 3011's and 9010's. We injected the USB drivers, NIC and Storage drivers into a fresh Win PE and the full CAB into a fresh Windows 7 image and this worked.

Sounds more like some borked hardware in it tbh, or some flakey drivers. Me personally it would be going straight back to where it came from and get a replacement machine or swapped for something different. I've been testing W8 on various bits of ageing and new hardware and haven't really hit an issue, not saying there isn't but it does sound like a problem with particular hardware or drivers.

What are you using to image the machines? We've had a few issues with USB if you have certain other vendors older drivers kicking around in the install image. Maybe start with a clean install image and also use the system cab pack available from Dell rather than individual drivers.

They're a darn sight cheaper than having a President and the extra tourism etc more than covers the cost. Whichever side of the political divide you are on, the thought of President Blair or President Thatcher makes Charles look a welcome prospect;)

He he, IT suppliers can be worse than snake oil salesmen as soon as they smell a budget:p If you are anywhere near the M62 corridor or can get up this way, I'm more than happy to give you a tour and explain the sort of things a secondary will need. You probably won't be able to afford it all to start with, but as your intake grows over the years it's good to have a solid foundation.

Busy first day, flipping knackered from clearing 6 rooms of all IT kit so the rooms can be refurbished. Three more days of lugging stuff around, then it's sat on my backside for a week and a half doing server stuff, followed by 3 weeks holiday:cool:, followed by 1 week of panic lugging everything back into rooms and setting up new kit after the refurbishment which you know will be running behind schedule:rolleyes:
