It does have various SQL Strings and SIMS rept.def files all associated with it, although atm I've sent the call back across to Groupcall so a little reluctant to mess. Might move everything across to my test system and see if it works on there.

The report was still failing even with me just logged onto the server (not even into SIMS) and after I'd disabled BackupExec and Sophos services to check they wern't causing problems. 35 staff have just logged into SIMS now to do registers and what not, RAM usage still about 6.5GB, processor usage hasn't gone above 30% while I've been monitoring it, tends to hover about 10%. Groupcall said we are running the latest version of the exporter (was working fine before it updated and stopped immediately after the update now that I've looked through the log files) I'll fire the call back to groupcall and they can do more investigating then. Just want to check that my opinion on something is right. Our current server spec for SIMS is a Xeon E5420 with 8GB RAM running Server and SQL 2008 x64. While idling at this current point in time (so no users except me), the Processor usage is 1%/2% and RAM usage is approx 6GB. SQL Database Size is 1.2GB, log file 4MB. The reason I'm asking is that when running an export using groupcall we currently have one report which is failing, while the report is running processor usage ranges between 10% and 35% and memory usage remains about 6.5GB. Would this suggest that the report is taxing the server in anyway or not? IMHO it's not, but just checking (only because of something fairly recently I'm starting to doubt myself) Thanks.

Ours was down to a few things, one the general consensus I got when asking various people that by waiting for CLEO we would be in the right area waiting for the LA provided solution and secondly, it was already included in the CLEO subscription so extra cost against our already constrained budget. If it's chargable, that's the second point out the window.

Where's that sprung from? If that's the case I might go back to pushing for sharepoint/SLG.

It'd be something which would be need to be raised with Groupcall I guess, but presumably they would have some conflict resolution in place? Maybe someone who was at BETT knows the answer to that one?

I could have this wrong, but the Bromcom Webfolder SD just seems to be browser based so would need constant internet access? The thing I liked about the Groupcall one was the fact that it had the offline access which as mentioned would be perfect for PE staff out on the field. If only either of them had access to the medical details..... might give groupcall a call tomorrow and get more details.

Really like the Groupcall Emerge demo. If it had the medical details as well, then that would be a perfect product in effect and save me having to faff arround with exporting details using the CommandReporter in order to syncronise with the Blackberry we've just purchased for use on trips!

We need to use the OEM recovery partition on the HDD which messes things up a little with reagards to repartition the disk unfortunately, although hopefully the machines will get replaced this summer so that I can get a 2nd HDD fitted which will solve the problem for next year. Never gave loopback a thought and should solve the immediate problem, will check monday. Cheers Willott!

I'm feeling really thick at the moment because I know what I want to do should be possible and should be dead easy to do, but maybe I'm getting confused. We have a policy set to restrict access to the C Drive which we want to remove for a group of 6 students when they use a group of machines for media so that they can caputre their work to the local drives. I thought I could do this by filtering the group policy security but I'm being thick about the way I'm doing it. At first I thought if I added the computer and Student groups to the policy and removed the authenticated users group then that should restrict it enough, but it allowed students access to the C drive on any machine, not just the one specified. Removing the student group and leaving the computer group then prevented the group policy from being applied. Removing the computer group and allowing the student group results in them being able to access the C drive on any machine again. Am I missing a trick on how to restrict it to a group of students on a group of machines or am I just trying to do the impossible? Thanks.

At my old spot it was the Network Manager who did it, here it's the SIMS Manager although ours has been off sick since September. The Autumn Census I helped the SIMS Admin do it with regards to running through the guide and resolving the errors, the Workforce Census the SIMS Admin and Bursar did and this next Census the SIMS Admin is going to do it and I'll help out if needed. This did mean however in the Autumn Census (and made quite clear to people) that any other jobs were put on hold unless it was essential from my point of view and people just had to like it or lump it but also that we are now at the stage where the SIMS Admin is going to do it from now on. If they insist that you do it then I would make it clear the points raised in this thread and that you'd work along side someone so that in the future they would be in a position to do it, but also that you aren't in the position to correct the issues that arrise due to errors in the data and play the game of printing the error list off and passing it on to someone else to resolve.

There is another one arround as well but I can't remember what the hell it was called, but it was based off Policy Central (which I think securus is based off as well?) The other thing which may/maynot be exactly the same is that Impero seemed to have this built in to an extent too on the recent web demo I had?

I'm sure this was Cubase Version 4, just found the email I'd sent off where I'd gotten sick of trying to phone them. They gave me two options, one of posting it back to them and the other contacting a local dealer listed on their website and requesting a replacement dongle through them. The fault with ours was 9 times out of 10 it came up as USB Device not Recognised, although we'd had it working for atleast a year before then (because it was bought before I started).

The odd computer we stick to the same company, monitors I'll shop arround 2/3 usual suppliers and pick the best one. Toners I had a big push back in April and got a supplier to commit to atlest a year of supplying toners at the price we agreed or better if I could find them cheaper elsewhere which has worked out very well so far (still go arround two other companies occaisionally just to make sure the prices are still competitive). All other items depending on what it is I tend to go for the best price out of two other usual suppliers (which I feel bad about, but has saved me a hell of a lot of money this year!)

I wonder if this is a new policy or I just managed to charm them somehow. About March/April last year we had a faulty dongle and after phoning Steinburg up they said if I sent the dongle back to them, they would send a replacement through. I only had to include the dongle, a letter stating the problem with the reference number and send it recorded delivery. All I had to pay was for the Proof of Postage. This was the full version of Cubase, so not sure if that makes any difference?

We can't deploy OS images at the moment as we don't have any volume licence agreement, we only use the OEM installed on the machine (bit of a pain at times, but it's ok) and I've played with WDS on my home test network so wouldn't mind using that. It's all up in there, but it was the software deployment and the monitoring side of things which caught my eye and with a few more people using it I thought it was worth looking into and was just curious as to which would be recommened if people were using it . All depends on me remaining protective of my remaining budget (and chopping the hands off anyone who wants any more toner!!) (Edit: just realised I could try both under the technet subscription, don't know why I didn't think of that!)

I've been going through my budget and hopefully by April I should have something left (providing nothing blows up!) since I've been a lot stricter this year in saying no after I overspent last year. One of the things I'm considering if I do is purchasing System Center for management of the workstations, mainly for deployment of things like office which seems to be a lot easier using System Center then Group Policy. So two questions: 1. Is it worth considering/getting System Center? 1. If so, which version should I be looking at? Configuration Manager, Essentials or some other version? Currently have approx 250 machines and 5 servers.

When I asked it was mentioned as GREED suggested. Apparently at one time they did use the same version then split 2/3 years ago I believe (but could be wrong, it's from memory).

I'm dreading going back. Think I might just go in, lock all the doors, take the phone off the hook and hide under the desk all day so no one can find me.

I'd love a 40" TV, but just haven't got the room for it atm. Got the Sony in the end and very happy with it!

Getting ready for tomorrow now and here's one thing that was really doing my head in that I've just realised I didn't look any more into over the holidays which I was going to. We have two problems with Pinnacle. 1. It has started displaying a blue question mark on all videos, whether they were imported by Pinnacle or caputred else where, so you can't edit, preview or do anything at all with them. I tried reinstalling a copy on one machine which sorted it for about a week and then the problem returned. 2. Another rather odd issue which I haven't looked into is that sometimes adding Titles to a clip works, sometimes it doesn't. It's not the same machine, it's not the same user and it's happend on various projects. Not even got a clue on where to start diagnosing it, any ideas? Thanks!

We don't have a Schools Agreement at the moment, all our licences have been purchased as Select. As we're starting to move (hopefully) towards Windows 7 over the summer and Office 2010, it's hopefully going to work out the best option.

Had read the blog post about it, nice to see some more information about it though. One thing that caught my eye, are the Home Use/Work at Home rights included as standard rather then an additional subscription option? Would be great if they were and am seriously considering pushing this for the next financial year!
