Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I did have a big panic on there but I have found a work around that won't cause me sleepless nights. Our backup software backupassist has an add on that I already had but didn't know I had! It emulates the old NTBACKUP way of doing backups file by file, folder by folder. I'm going to run a system backup to my old TeraStation NAS boxes and backup the rest of the data onto the BlackArmor NAS boxes with the add on I didn't know about. If I had a chance to start again I'd just buy Buffalo terastations. Live and Learn.

Just 2008 I'm thinking, backup to terastation that does work then copy that to the other seagate NAS. Hope restoring is ok. Not keen of server 2008 backup. Bring back ntbackup!

Oh it does! Server 2008 backup either directly with Server backup up through backupassist (Just an interface for server 2008 backup) complains that the file system is not ntfs and the backup fails every time!

I just bought two new NAS boxes to enhance our backups. We regularly backup to tape and NAS boxes. However the Seagate BlackArmor 440 does not allow you to format it's volumes in NTFS. The problem is that Server 2008 backup will only back up on to drives that are NTFS! I am going to have to come up with some convoluted method of doing this as I can't send the boxes back, so wondered if anyone had any suggestions? I was thinking along the lines of backing up to my original NAS boxes and then having a script that could move that backup to the BlackArmors. This way keeping my archives on the BlackArmors and my daily backups on the TeraStations. Can anyone suggest any other options I might consider? Thanks.

We are having a work experience student join us for a few weeks and wondered what level of access I should give them to the system? They will be carrying out general IT duties and trying to gain exeprience from the whole experience towards her degree. Has anyone had a similar dilema? thanks

I am currently trying to replace about 60 computers and not sure what to replace them with! I have been looking at all in ones but also quite liked the Lenovo - ThinkCentre A58. The problem seems to be that most "Business" computers are still only dual core when surely a quad core would be a better future proof investment? Has anyone recently bought, or about to buy something similar? Any suggestions? Thanks

I tried this and it works fine if I run it logged on as an admin, but if I call it to run during the logon scripts I get a premission denie error. Can anyone suggest how I can change the permissions to let the script run, it's pointing to line 8 of the script! Thanks

Hi All, At the moment both of us tech guys connect our live@edu account to Outlook 2007 but I have a couple of issues that I would like to resolve before looking at doing the same for staff, perhaps someone could help out? I need to set up outlook on each computer that we use, so I am not sure where outlook is saving the emails and settings to, and in what format, (Not sure if it will be a pst an ost or something else) Secondly every time outlook is fired up it asks for log on details so i was wondering if there is a way to save these as well. Sorry but I have been using web based email for so long that any outlook/exchange experience I have had in the past has long since been pushed out of my brain space.

Hi All, We have had a bit of a meltdown with our already pathetic wireless for our student laptops in a trolley. So in the short term, as we are a good few weeks from fixing the wireless, our Head of Science has asked if we can create a local log on for students so they can still use all the science apps. Now I can't see an easy way to lock down the laptops without a great deal of playing with local gpos. So... Can anyone suggest any apps or shortcuts that might help with this process? Thanks
