Hi All, I have had an ongoing saga trying to connect my macs up to our active directory and somebody suggested that i check that I can ping clients and servers from the macs. When I either try ping of host then a machine name it fails but if I ping or host the fqdn it works. I assume that this is a DNS error but I'm not suere where this could be rectified. Could anyone help at all? Thanks

Hi All, I have some spare time so i am back trying to get my macs to authenticate with server 2008 Active directory domain. I have noticed that a client mac cannot ping a host name eg server1 only the fqdn eg server1.prentonhigh.local. I have checked my forward lookup zones and the server i am trying to ping is in there and it's in the reverse as well. The mac itself is pointing at the correct dns server so I am a bit stuck! Anyone have any suggestions? thanks

At the moment all users (Bar admins!) have roaming profiles but I think it may be causing issues. At the moment users can't save settings, for example in IE a prompt may say "do you want to rememeber this setting" and they click yes but on next log on it returns. Can anyone suggest the pros and cons of using roaming profiles? Is it an easy task to swap 80 ish people (staff) over to roaming profiles. I have about a thousand other jobs to do, as we all do, so I keep putting this off but I thought it was time I grabbed the bull by the horns for this one!

In the end I edited http.conf and another file which I have already forgotten that basically told apache what to do with the .php extension. It then worked?

Oh Bum! I have just updated my FOg server from 0.27 to 0.28 and all seemed to go well but when i try to browse to my management page http://fog/fog/index.php instead of my browser opening the console up the browser offers to save the php.ini file for me! I'm guessing that the install has written over some config file but I'm not suer what that would be! Could anyone suggest what might have happened and what i need to do? thanks

I was putting in the wrong ldap info. Redid it and alled worked fine!

I have a further problem now?? When I create a new local user it works fine until I reboot the laptop and then they have disappeared. What could be causing this? Arggghhhh:confused:

No! I was hoping that the users profile would be stored on the laptop but it has just dawned on me that we have mandatory profiles so I'm wondering if this is the problem. I know what you mean about creating a local account but I was hoping to use file sync. I may well go the local user if I can't work it this way.

I really can't believe I don't know how to do this but I don't! How can I set a staff laptop that is on our windows domain so that a user can log on to it on the domin but then still log on when they tke it home? I have files syncing but not much use as the user can't log on without the network cable connected!

I'm still getting this on some but not all machines in my school? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

Well it is me "Mega" Image. It has every program on it I can find.

Can anyone suggest a cheap place to stay for one night during BETT? I have managed to persuade the powers that be to let me go on the train but I think a night stay is required!

I'm using FOG. It compresses the image but my mega image before compression is 28 Gig!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any routines they carry out pre sys prepping a machine? My images have crept up in size and I really need to clear them up a bit! For example couldf i remove the windows updates files?

I thought is was easy as well BUT something unusual is happening. A DNS issue I think.

I am trying to find paid support to link my Mac server and clients to my AD. I have come close but not quite right. I have paid another company to do this not long ago but then they didn't know the AD side which did seem a bit strange since they were paid to connect the tow. Can anyone suggest a firm or private individual who can invoice, , who could sort this out for my school? PS I have the macs authenticating but then the desktop on the mac goes blank with a beachball and goes no further! Thanks

I have been playing with GLPI for a while but would like to investigate the helpdesk side. As such I need it to authenticate against AD. Has anyone done this yet? If so could you let me know so I could ask a follow on question!! Thanks:)

I think that is where my problem is. My default website is set /var/www/mahara so not sure how to work round that!

Hi All, I'm in the middle of trying to install GLPI on a linux box that I have with a website already running on it. Could someone tell me what i need to do to add my second site to the box? I guess I have to edit my hosts file but not sure how! I have dropped all the files into /var/www/hardware but when I browse to http://ipadress/hardware nothing happens. Why am I being a doofus here?
