  1. We use Chromebooks as a replacement for student laptops. All our classrooms have desktops. Teachers still use the student Chromebooks to do work within our Google Apps environment but not as a desktop/laptop replacement. To be honest we only have a few laptops in the school.
  2. That is really nice. Did you use a tripod or just free hand? Im looking at your details for the shot and it says you used a flash? Was it an external flash?
  3. Here is a couple from the other week. Just ordered my new Macro lens. Can't wait for it to be delivered so I can try it out.
  4. Ditto. Smoothwall. It allows you to block access to this type of content but now it allows you to setup reports which notify defined users if students try and access certain types of content. See the link below: http://smoothwall.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Ofsted-Online-Safety-Guidelines.pdf
  5. I have used this before at another school too. Works pretty well and all the governors took to it pretty quickly. Not the prettiest looking platform but does the job very well. Ad.
  6. I am in the same boat. About to start rebuilding a backup server which has had it's main array setup as RAID 0. I was wondering which would be best RAID 10 or 50? I will probably have 6 4TB mechanical disks. On another point, I had a Hitachi SAN running a mixture of SAS and SATA drives and never had a failure in the 6 years of running it. As long as you buy good quality drives and keep then in a good environment then they should last.
  7. I really enjoy working in Schools. I am fortunate to work in a school which supports me, has great staff and little real pressure. It pays pretty good too. School trips for me are a great perk. Off to Iceland in October, London in a week and probably going skiing next year. Can't beat it. Being able to listen to some interesting guest speakers is cool too. Never too old to learn. Getting involved with sport and events are fun. Can think of a lot of worse places to work. Don't get me wrong I have days when I think why do I do it. They aren't very often though
  8. I have been asked before. To keep things simple I just took the photos they wanted and got some time off for my troubles rather than being paid.
  9. Sorry to hear that. Have you tried restarting the SOLUS 3 services on the SIMS server? Sometimes other SIMS services we use crash out and can easily be fixed by restarting the services.
  10. Hi, I got the following error like you: I went to the downloads tab and the three failed updates were in there. I then clicked on each one and clicked resume download. This fixed it for me Hope this helps
  11. The following group policy could be set for the user which will remove pinned items from the taskbar How to manage Windows Taskbar Items pinning using Group Policy - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki
  12. I just got Capita out to setup SOLUS3. Best £300 I have ever spent. If anyone is thinking of doing the same, ask for Kevin Carter. Really good engineer who knows SOLUS3 inside out and explained everything as he was going through installing it.
  13. These are great. Really like the first one. So much texture to it. What equipment you using? Whats the location?
  14. A few from my last time in London at the Lumiere festival.
  15. We would be looking at anything from £250 - £350 with no monitor. Probably £400+ with a monitor.
  16. I know this school very well if anybody has questions regarding the post.
  17. True, as long as you can prove you have taken adequate steps to protect the data by having policy, procedure and training as well as risk assessments then the ICO will be happy enough that you have put in place “appropriate" protection measures.
  18. We also have a procedure for sending fax communications but that happens very little these days.
  19. We basically add any sensitive data to an encrypted Zip file using 7zip and set a huge password. We then send the email to the recipient and have a challenge and response system where they will have to phone the person who sent the email and give details regarding the content of the email and then we release the password to them. Works pretty well.
  20. Hi, Yes we had the same issue with our smoothwall. It need to have un-authenticated access to the net to load the login page and to authenticate users against Google apps. 21. I'm up for this. I find it hard to find people willing to put up with my crapness in the game. Also I don't have a mic as I have no desire to inflict my dulcet tones on anyone. Will add people later. Ad.
  22. I have a Sony HX60 compact for the quick snaps. A Panasonic GMC-G3 mirror less for convenience and a Canon D700 for my proper work. So yes I do at least
  23. A few from over the past couple of months
