We use this Canon range here within our Art department. They are really good quality. Not sure how they handle large volumes. We use a standard A4 laser printer for draft work then use the Canon for final prints. Canon PIXMA Professional Photo Printers - Inkjet Photo Printers - Canon UK Regards, Adam.

You are more than welcome. Glad it helped. We have had teachers putting all sorts of code in, even after we have told them the correct code to put in. Adds to the enjoyment of my job. Adam.

I have several of the same projectors and if memory serves me right, if you remove the power from the projector (physically remove the IEC lead for several minutes e.g. 10) then when you turn it on it should ask you again for the code. The default Epson code should be 1793. Hope this helps, Adam.

@Sheridan: Did the solution I suggested work? Would be interested to know. Cheers,

Like yourself we never had a problem with lockout policies until we came back in September them BOOM loads of students couldn't logon, just like yourself. Spoke to Smoothwall support and they said to make the change mentioned and we haven't had a problem since. Well except for the real numpties that can't remember their password.

We had the same problem. What we had to do is in smoothwall go to Web Proxy > Web Proxy Settings > Click Advanced > In Web Filter Options make sure "Interrupted NTLM connections are caused by non-standard Web browser behavior. Disable this option if restrictive Active Directory account lockout policies are in operation." is disabled. This fixed the problem for us. Hope this helps. Adam

1 NM (Myself), 1 x Deputy NM, 1 Tech (Split between us and Drama) for ~700 machines (Both desktops and laptops) plus all the other stuff network etc.

We use the following which seems to work pretty well: School Identifier (supplied by LA) = XXX e.g. SHS Machine Type: Y e.g. L = Laptop/Netbook & D = Desktop Primary User: A e.g. S = Staff, P = Pupil Year machine purchased: B e.g. This year is N which equals 2013 Then a unique number starting at 001 So ours for example SHS-DPN001 would mean it is a Desktop used by a pupil bought this year. We then us OU's within AD to organise by room/location. For servers we just use simple role based names e.g. SHS-APPS1 which would mean that this is an application server. Replace APPS with any of the examples below to fit the server role. AD FILE MIS MAIL NETAPPS RDS PRINT

I always find the Startech stuff pretty good for the price. You can get them for ~£15 online (Insight). Mini DisplayPort HDMI - Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Converter | StarTech.com United Kingdom

Uninstall and reinstall your graphics driver? Try and get the latest driver if possible. It might also be worth doing a RAM test. It could be a faulty stick or check that they are seated correctly.

I have the Nokia 820 and my better half has the 925. I would go for the 925 every time now. Its light and slim, the screen is pretty good too. The apps coming slowly but surely. They have all the ones you need to get by. The battery can get battered if you are using a lot of GPS kind of stuff but the wireless charging is pretty cool. I know the 925 is free on 3 on a £30pm contract with unlimited data, 500mins and 5000txt.

Did you do straight upgrade on the servers OS? I.E. Upgrade this server option?

We use GPUpdate by Specops. When we got our license it was fairly cheap. Good all round program and has lots of other little features which are quite nice. Adam.

These guys are good. We have never had any problems with them. They can also source other parts like screens & keyboards. Laptops and Spares Hope this helps Adam

Giving a network user loacal admin rights
aleach2 replied to MattDLEA's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
There are several ways of achieving what you want do: 1) Add the two office users to the Local Administrator group on the two computers in question (Probably the easiest way if it is only two computers) 2) Create a new group (call it local comp admins for example) add the two users to it, then use group policy to add the newly created group to the Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Restricted Groups > Administrators I hope this helps. It’s a bit on the rushed side but if you need any more detail just let me know. Adam. -
Patch 18113 has worked for me now. For some reason it didn't install the first time round. Ran it again and it has fixed the issue. Adam.

Hi Vikpaw, We are getting the same with our report too, but its one tutor group doubling up. We got told to run patch 18113 but this didn't fix it. Capita are looking in to it for us. Adam

We are also looking to move away from Smoothwall for the very same reason. Our bill is getting on £10K for 650 users with a support contract. We have been looking at a Sophos solution . The price seems to be cheaper for the time period and it looks like a better solution. Have never really got our Smoothwall appliance to work for us. Its OK but it not the best solution i have ever used but its not the worst neither.

[windows software] Hell with Microsoft Licensing!!!!! :(
aleach2 replied to pritchardavid's topic in Licensing Questions
It’s my understanding that you would have to buy external connector licenses for the programs you want the students to access. This is where it gets complicated. You have to purchase an external connector license for every application you are running e.g. You have an Exchange Server running on one server, you would need: 1 x Windows Server external connector license 1 x Exchange external connector license Also if you had a SharePoint Server using two servers with the database held on just one of the servers: 1 x Windows Server external connector license 2 x SharePoint external connector license 1 x SQL external connector license You basically have to get an external connector license for every server and service a user may touch directly or indirectly during their session. If you wanted to run an RDS server things get really messy. You could look at using Office 365 or some kind of hosted solution. If you speak to a MS licensing partner, they should be able to get you the right solution together. You may want to talk to then regarding your UAG external connector too, as I think this may allow you to run services from home without the need for external connector licenses but I’m not 100%. Good luck -
These are great, we have around 30. The only snag is that Kodak no longer makes them so suppliers may say the sell them but they can't source them. If you find any, just buy them. Great value for money. We have no problem with students using them here in mp4 format. They play in WMP & Movie Maker. We do load K-Lite Codec Pack onto ever machine though, to get past these issues.

PowerPoint is very good. I like how you can now have on your presenter screen what slide is coming next and any notes you have written for the slide you are on. It also allows you to open things up without having to exit your presentation. Much better than 2010. I am a little unsure about Outlook but may feel differently once I have been using it for a bit. You could try deleting the cached group policies from the computer: 1. Go to the location C:\users\all users\Microsoft\Group Policy\History\ 2. Delete all subfolders e.g. {3A060EA6-45E4-41D7-9918-90407539BF0D} 3. Run the command gpupdate /force This should then pull down the policies from domain b.

We have used Viglen now for the last 3 years and they have been really good. Five years NBD warranty seems to be fine for us. Have a look: Viglen - Product Range - GENIE Adam
