  1. That is awful. Even the job description was all over the place - like their network.
  2. I agree totally. They have total disregard for anything outside their own country or the environment. 20 litre SUVs more like. BP was using contractors as well. It wasn't strictly their fault as such.
  3. That would be sweet. Live there for a year. Shame SIMS is so [edited] Language!!!! Dos_Box P.S. I'm far to fragile this morning to be doing this!!
  4. Was just on Bournemouth uni website, thought I would post - looks like some good jobs there. 5. Something involving the outdoors.
  6. EDUgeek the new opensource BECTA.
  7. BECTA was a Quango, I bet half the I.T. professionals in schools had never heard of them. However for those schools who lack technology innovators its a steep downward decline.
  8. Surely if your the person who is going to be above them - you would know how to do a spec? Or you know what the person would be doing and what skills they need?
  9. Kiddies will always do it, will always find ways around the system. Its just fun catching them. One of the highlights of the job I had. Sometimes its fun to take over and play for them. Surely as a member of staff within your rights you should block the site, inform said teacher then move on to next job. When it was me I just blocked site and left it as that. End of the day its your job as the I.T. Professional to find the site and block it. The teacher should in theory be monitoring but in the real world it doesn't happen and there are a lack of decent (cheap) solutions out there for classroom monitoring.
  10. Anyone done the MOS / Application Specilalist stuff for office suite? Thinking about doing it soon. Pretty basic stuff I know but hey I have my reasons.
  11. Network managers should be at least on min 30k - 45k - in an ideal world. Technicians above training min 18k - 25k.

    Equal Pay

Lets just face it your never gonna earn decent money in education.
  13. Sooner or later I predict 10 years there will be 1 if not 0 I.T. staff left in schools. Everything will be web based, server farmed and the friendly I.T. manager/tech gone. But, surely one will be needed whether in 10 years to still change the toners, answer tech questions, swap monitors and do the dirty work, so maybe the tech will always be required.
  14. Surely if you have the technical knowledge and people skills to become a NM then go for it? There are many people out there who got their jobs simply by being there at the right time or being lucky. There are also many who are good, have the experience and knowledge. I don't think there is any limit on it. Why not start applying now?

  17. Don't pay for a course. Get some books, study cds or what have you off ebay or the internet. You can do everything at home and itll be so much cheaper. All have to shed money out for then is the exams.
  18. This is at a language college English language courses at Anglo-Continental's English language school in Bournemouth, England. Bournemouth is a popular coastal resort in the South of England just 2 hours from London. There are 20 days holiday none allowed in summer. There are three people I.T. Tech, Assistant I.T. Tech and another assistant who is being recruited. 19 k max. Staff are less than 100.
  19. My four years at Uni wasn't a walk in the park whatsoever. It might not have taught me how to do a job (which isn't tbh the requirement of a university) but it did teach me allot.
  20. Its not difficult. Why would you even think about paying anyone else to do it? Sorry I just don't get it. Waste of tax payers money for one!! If you can't image a computer or find out how to do it, you shouldn't be doing the job your doing. Of course I have no idea of what situation you are in or your skills and I might be annoying you a hell of alot. I know schools which have and it was roughly a few thousand or a per hour jobie. My suggestions for imaging are clonezilla or fog which are both open source + sysprep.
  21. Yeh i agree with this.
  22. To move forward you have to jump ship OR wait for somebody to leave/die. Check out certforums.co.uk as they will offer you better advise I imagine than here. You should certainly aim towards MCTS quals, setup some virtual stuff and practice. Theres plenty of free stuff on the web or ebay to pay for. Comptia stuff has recently decreased there stuff to 3 year max so don't bother studying there quals. I would send your CV around the job agency's as well. Check out whats available on them, for example reed.co.uk/ local council websites etc. Get a feel for whats about. There is no use in hell of just sitting in the same place and wasting your life away. You have to think about no.1 because no one else will. You don't want to get institutionalized either which I imagine happens in allot of places. And I am in the same situation as you as well. 24 nearly + 3 years experience and a degree. Graduate schemes are really hard to get into but if you can write bs + pass there tests get in whilst you can. Graduate Jobs & Internships | Career Advice | Milkround.com. I won't go into what I am aiming for/ what i am actively doing but good luck to you. W/e happens education is rewarding at times and it will be a shame to leave it but if you want to be able to afford a decent lifestyle or home you gotta say bye bye.
