  1. I spoke to them and I think they are very much flexible, seem really friendly. The school is also open during summer period. From what I remember from our conversation the network is pretty up to date e.g. W7 / Server 2008 + 2 computer rooms. There would also be another IT Tech working PT. Best call the school if interested. Id imagine they would want someone local. I think they are leaving a managed service.

  3. Spoke to someone on the phone, there is a bug in the code making it pink - hence I thought syntax error. So I can block .rus etc. Now just seeing where to add the category to block lists. Another reason for my post though is I wanted to get a custom list from other schools of various foreign game sites etc which are sometimes not blocked by game sites.
  4. Hi all. My smoothwall student block list is not large enough. Ive done a search around and cant find any lists. Anyone willing to share theirs? Anyhone have a Wiki? If not could create and add to it. I am looking for a URL list to block for students. Also does anyone know how to block a country e.g. like .ru Cheers

  10. Wouldnt it be around 15-18 mark + some sort of london weighting and pro rata would be factored on to that? Most of standard IT Techs jobs I have seen advertised are around the 14-18k mark.

  12. Wasn't this post advertised previously? Was nobody suitable?
  13. Your not really trained ...or a technician yet. My advise - try to get into a decent grad scheme and your on the money. Without having done an internship it can be hard but if you know self, can do the physometric testing and talk about competency bS your in. Look for junior helpdesk / technician roles. 12-14 K you would be looking at for your first role.
  14. Scots need to get over something several hundred years old. They needed to be tamed and we tamed them ; )
  15. Welsh, NI, Scotland, Ireland, Europe - as far as I am concerned were giving to much money and subsidies to all of them. Free education to the scottish? Whats all that about as well.. Indepedence aload of BS. A load of hardliners who can't get over something over 100 years ago. If they want it that bad give them back their hills and rubbish weather...while at it the Welsh and NI as well and stop all the money were giving them as well. GG! There was that thing about money given to Pakistan as well. How about sorting our own country out first, instead of charging 1.35 a litre at the pumps and 20% VAT.
  16. Its hard not to feel bad when you don't get a position. However pick yourself up and get self-studying. Observe your boss more. Play around at home, get some books and download some materials. If you have nothing to do at work then theres your chance to learn more relevant to the job and your future. Nothing wrong with that. Perhaps looking at getting some Microsoft Certs under your belt. Don't just look at schools, there are alot of lower tech / helpdesk jobs about.
  17. IMO: In the short term things will stay as is. The trend of amalgamation seems to be going full speed with schools merging, heads taking over more than one school, academys etc. I bet they will try to keep their distinct network support teams going, however it makes sense to join IT support teams together. For example IT Director and or NM, Network Engineers acting as a floating body with senior techs / junior techs on site. There is more benefits than disadvantages to this, for example more room for career progression and sharing of knowledge. Schools should be run more as a business! Support teams should link in infant, primary schools in immediate areas (such as feeder schools) and provide IT services for them and this in turn would probably bring in more money. In the long term, using the word 'cloud' loosely, will take over. However in the next 5-10 years some form of techie is always going to be needed to do basic support such as toner changing, basic admin etc.
  18. Hold on, if someone read it more in detail. It does say the bottom end of public sector workers has not increased a great deal. The article is more concerned with those at the top end of the slippery slope.
  19. Its called a p and ends in y. When I was living in America it cost me 5 dollars a month and was perfect, no lag.
  20. Both options are fine but I am voting yes to shake things up a bit.
  21. Somebody deleted my post? I mentioned the costs of living in the area.
  22. Hammersmith is very expensive to live for those on 25k. Would have to be a tube commute job no?
  23. You should go for it Witch.
