I like the idea of something like teaching them how DNS works. I may go down the route of what happens when you enter an address into a browser and how it retrieves a web page. not to sure about making it interesting though?

Thanks guys. As much as I would love to demonstrate the complexities of a seoi nage, I need something more 'desk based'.

Thats funny, I am a 3rd dan at Judo so that did cross my mind at one point! The 1-1 will be a colleague, but not necessarily a techie colleague. Could be someone from HR or some other dept.

I am attending a 'coaching others' course next week and I have been asked to prepare a 10 minute, 1-1 coaching session on anything I want? Im really struggling to think of any ideas. I know that they will be looking more at my delivery rather than content but I still would like to do something fairly interesting. Anyone done anything like this before? what did you coach? any help would be much appreciated. thanks James

I would ask the question, "why did you implement it in the first place?" Was there even a need for it? If the staff didn't have a need before you installed the system, im pretty certain most wont have a need after you installed it. If it was installed as a result of the staff needing the features it offers then they will eventually buy into it. James

Why? What he wants to do can be achieved easily using a service like Dropbox. I would personally recommend SkyDrive as this complies better with DPA.

ICT Network Administrator Technical Test
Admiral208 replied to andrewjones1987's topic in General Chat
Depending on what their role is actually going to be, I would like to see a 'social technical' test. I thinks its sometimes more important to see how they can interact with other members of staff and what is their line of questioning is to find out a problem. You will probably already know within 5 minutes if they are technical enough through chatting with them and looking at their CV/application. -

when a user logs into one of our networked Macs, it maps a drive to their windows home directory and shows a shortcut on the desktop. How do I get this in the sidebar?? I know I can do it manually but I want to automate it for all users. Im sure this must be possible??? OSX 10.8.5 and WGM 10.8(409) Thanks James

Set the students password and don't let them change it. Then they don't forget it and you don't need to reset it.

Hi all, I have installed Inkscape on our Mac image along with XQuartz to run it ready to be deployed with Deploy Studio. When i log in as a standard user, I load Inkscape and a window appear asking for the location of X11? The acounts are locked down to restrict what runs but if I manually select the location, everything works as expected. Is there a way to set this location for all users so students dont need to select the location of X11? Thanks

@Eappariello Sorry to hijack this thread but is there any news on a fix for iOS 7 and safari not redirecting after authentication? -
Lightspeed Rocket - Lifetime setting

We already use a log out button using the method you describe. The lifetime is more of a failsafe for when they forget.
