It's some years since I used an Avaya IP system, but IIRC the extensions do not need to be hard mapped. There is the facility for a user to log on to any handset with "their" number, they would then get voicemail notifications and access through the handset. Would this be an alternative method of dealing with your issue?

This is the issue vexing me at the moment. We have a very poor strategic view here and most stuff that happens is reactive, normally in response to something one or two teachers have found that becomes the latest answer to all our prayers. We have abandoned our VLE as unworkable, although this is problably more due to willingness rather than technical issues. We have several teachers using Edmodo, DropBox, $cloudservice with no co-ordination nor plan for future use. As the Data Manger this lack of co-ordination concerns me, it feels like there is so much opportunity for a massive foul up and I am just waiting for a call from a concerned parent to land on my desk. I'm not advocating lock down, but equally I am keen to see some thought going in to what we do, how we do it and how we ensure it is secure and lawful. Post BETT I am aware of a lot of "solutions" to replace the functionalilty (in whole or part) of a formal VLE, but some of those solutions have the security of a sieve. That's my thoughts, it'll be nice to hear others.

I saw these people yesterday at BETT and was impressed with their offering. The link to behaviour and SEN looked very good and the analytical tools are truely amazing (like showing how little Johnny behaves when sat next to various other kids). But, it was only when I got back to base today that I realised the system runs as a stand-alone system, no upload from an MIS and no feedback to the MIS. The BIG question for us though is Data Protection. This service is offered FOC; all you have to do is put the name, picture, SEN status and behaviour of all your children into our system and in return you get a wonderful tool FOR FREE?? This worries me as with no contract there is no DPA clause to look at and despite the lame "it's OK 'cos we used HTTPS" explainations in the FAQ the offer seems too good to be true. Particularly scary is when you see this Class Charts data set available | EDUKEY (Edukey are the company behind Class Carts) - they are harvesting the data. @clareq - what has your experience of this been like?

Setting up the school site takes a couple of days to process as edmodo checks the validity of your claim, but it's a one off thing and no real overhead to maintain. Getting teachers to use your site is a completely different matter; especially those that have independently already set up an edmodo account on the generic site.

We use Go4Schools, which is currently a Secondary / Sixth Form package but they are now rolling out a Primary package too. It integrates very well with SIMS and is highly configurable. New additions to the system mean it is now easier than ever to see progress. Regards Steve
