I'm trying to delete an aspect and having spent many hours transferring results, deleting marksheets and templates and generally making sure there is nothing associated with this aspect I find I still cannot delete it because it is used in Discover! I don't use Discover, so don't know where to start with this but my initial flounderings have not come up with anything so far. Can anyone suggest a way forward? For what it's worth, I'm trying to get our KS2 data in order but I can't import the necessary aspects and templates because a dodgy result is preventing the KS2 Sub Levels gradeset being set up correctly, and without this the EN KS2:English Test Level and the MA KS2:Maths Test Level (Final) aspects cannot be modified correctly and without those the KS2 templates cannot be set up and without these I'm in the dark! The aspect I'm trying to delete is MA KS2 : Maths Test Lev - I've successfully managed to get rid of EN KS2 : English Test Lev and SC KS2 : Science Test Lev. All help appreciated

Because our class names start with the year group value I use a class list report for this - export all classes that start 7 (say) and the name of the teacher to Excel then remove duplicate teacher names.

This can be done, but you have to think about it! Using Tools / Setups / Attendance Setup / Module Setup a SIMS user can select from a dozen attributes to be displayed in the register, one of these attributes is "Quick Note". If selected then every child who has a Quick Note on their record will appear in the register with a black dot against their name. To view the content of the Quick Note the teacher needs to switch to Student Teacher View (a couple of clicks). Thus, if you populate Quick Note with the toilet pass information you can, sort of, display it on registers. If you go down this route you need to bear in mind:- 1 - Each SIMS user has to set their own register preferences, there is no "universal" setting 2 - If Quick Note is populated with any data it will show the black dot - if you overuse Quick Note this won't be much use to you.

Short Answer: No Longer Answer: There is nothing I'm aware of that automatically assigns points based on attendance / late marks directly in SIMS; removal from class and being put into IE and getting more than one detention can *kind of* be automated if you set these things up as behaviour types in their own right, but I don't know of a way to count detentions and add points; getting plus point for not having negative points seems a bit odd but I can't think of a way of automating this. Alternative Answer: There are a number of third party packages available that offer some element of automatically awarding points, mostly based on attendance. When I last looked, these packages tend to operate as stand alone systems with no direct interaction with SIMS save, perhaps, for some kind of automatic reading of the student population. None of the systems I've seen cover all your requirements.

You need your system manager to give you permission - you need to be set as Assessment Co-Ordinator. It's the only option!

Use Tools/Performance/Assessment/System Utilities/Aspects and select "Modify the category association for a selection of aspects"

Most of the "tech" I've been given as presents has had a very short lifespan: the "all-in-one remote"; the "99 games in one joystick" thing. I think I have had about a dozen "credit card sized electronic personal organizer" devices as presents over the years!!

I still have both my MD deck and portable players; I've even got a car MD headset lying around somewhere. In the very late 20th century it was the bee's knees. I've got around 100 MD mixtapes that I put together at a significant point in my life and I'd hate to lose the ability to play them, so I'm keeping the kit.

You can use the FIND function to locate these characters in a string, it will return the position in the string of the character you are looking for. You could then use other string functions (LEN, LEFT, RIGHT) to manipulate the string to remove the hyphen or whatever. See Using Excel's Find and Mid to extract a substring when you don't know the start point - TechRepublic for examples of how to do this. You will need to use FIND for each character you wish to remove, so this could get very long winded. EDIT: You could also use the "Text to Columns" feature to split the names by defining the undesirable characters as the delimiters then use CONCATENATE or & to join them back into one string.

RTFM!! If the appliance has the "double insulated" symbol on it (google it) it will not need earthing, otherwise you should assume it does.

You will need to check if the device needs earthing; the adapter in the picture takes a two pin "figure 8" lead and converts it into a "kettle lead"; this will NOT be earthed. Damn; beaten to it

I already have separate sound direct from the BT box; the TV is, in effect, acting solely as a monitor and has been ever since it developed the original fault of not retaining any of its settings or tuning.

A quick update. Finally took the back off the TV last night to find no evidence of blown capacitors and nothing else obvious. Disconnected the ribbon cable connecting the buttons to the main board and fired it up. This has solved the turning on / off issue, so I guess it must have been a faulty switch under one of the buttons.

Yes, the BT box does have HDMI and its own volume control; for a couple of months now I've been using the TV as a dumb monitor - turn it on and set the volume then use the BT box for all other functions. The TV is over 5 years old, and a google of its model number does suggest these problems were not unknown. I've got some experience with electrics and have suitable tools and testers to make things safe - it's the fiddly electronics that my hamfisted hands will struggle with. Thanks

Further to previous trails and tribulations with my telly not retaining its settings (http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/152072-samsung-tv-wont-retain-settings.html) it has now developed an annoying habit of switching on and off all by itself. I've had a quote for fixing that starts at £50 for diagnosis plus parts and labour to fix. So..... Time for a new gogglebox methinks. Which got me thinking about using a monitor hooked up to the BT box we now have. To my simplistic mind this seems like a suitable plan because a monitor of similar size (28") is dozens of pounds cheaper than a TV. Plus, it should be intelligent enough to turn itself to standby when the STB is turned off, which in turn makes the remote situation easier for all household members to understand. And, if I have the patience and skills to fix the TV, I could end up with a new monitor for my PC (Google suggests the "simple" replacement of a few capacitors will solve the problem). Is there a downside to my cunning plan?

I've been asked to put together some information on the take-up rates of various subjects at A2 following AS level. I've been asked to provide demographic data with this information. We use SIMS and, within that, Course Manager but all our sixth form courses are just one year, so I can't see a way of easily getting the information out of there. Is anyone else doing this analysis and, if so, what data source are you using and how do you get to the numbers?
