There is no simple or general answer for this one - totally dependant on attitude of SLT/ability of tech staff to be flexible/cost of minimising disruption. If SLT/tech staff working relationship is OK and both put themselves out at times to help the other then life is good Si

The trouble with this stuff is that its been invented by kids who are using their own language(s) Turns out that "fastboot" is also a cmd line program for flashing the contents of the phone. However, there is so much guff around that Google is not your friend 0th step as always is to do a backup (And in this case - wipe your cache as well as it won't fit in the smaller partition afterwards!) So 1st step is to install the Android SDK (I did this ages ago to write apps - so I didn't need to do it ) Then follow the info hereFastboot - CyanogenMod Wiki and make sure that issuing the "fastboot devices" works. I then made sure the bravo_alphaspl-cm7.img that I'd downloaded from AlphaRev was in the same directory and then I issued "fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl-cm7.img' I then did 'fastboot reboot-bootloader' followed by 'fastboot erase cache' I then went into recovery on the phone (using vol/up down and pwr to select it) and did a factory wipe/reset, wiped the cache and then a normal restore from the backup. I got an error!!!! (But just a small one - because I didn't wipe the cache before taking the backup - therefore the old data was too big to fit into the new smaller /cache partition but it doesn't matter - you'll just save getting an error msg ) Hope this helps others Si @Domino OK - I've caught up to where you were 3 months ago - what's next

There are instructions for doing the next stage (which is to actually change the partition structures) but this I can get into fastboot mode but I have no idea what means There is no flash option on the FASTBOOT menu Any one help? Si

I'm way beyond that I've been running CM6 since Domino made me do it back in Jan And I've just "upgraded" to CM7 and decided to try the re-partitioning method of gaining more room for apps. I'm thinking about altering my partition sizes on my Desire to gain more room for apps in the meain phone memory and to be able to do this you I need to get to the "S-OFF" condition using AlphaRev. The AlphaRev site is a paragon of geekness and doesn't bother with instructions but I found this one here for others. The AlphaRev S-OFF process didn't touch my data or apps but do a Nandroid backup just in case regards Simon

Try doing this Download CM7 and gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip to your SD card root. Backup your SD Card (just in case ) Boot into Recovery and do a backup. wipe cache partition. wipe data/factory reset Choose - install zip from sdcard choose zip from sdcard (and load CM7) choose zip from sdcard (and loaded gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip) After reboot, when asked which GApps to install just chose Gmail and Google Maps and decline any offers to automagically restore apps. See if Market works OK now. regards Simon

Fair enough - its his property. But he decided to paint his half (and just his half) of the drain pipe vent (which is directly down middle of the semi's) in the same color My wife wanted to go war with him - I just asked if he had any paint left over and painted my half the same awful colour as well. @sted A .1 in android is important Starting again Are you saying your GPS didn't work well with original ROM outdoors? As up until recent Gingerbread updates, GPS reliability has never been an issue on 'droids so you probably have a physically duff phone [edit]try out GPS Status app and see what it gives you[/edit] regards Si

AFAIK there's problems with the main Gingerbread update code from google causing GPS issues. I'm finding if I run up GPS Status app, wait till aqquires 5 sats and then close it and open up my own GPS speed app it them works OK. But sometimes I need to open/close GPS status itself a few times If you want reliable, then 2.2 ROMs are still the way to go (or maybe older Gingerbread versions that didn't seem to have the problem) regards Simon

...do a factory reset (at least the one in ClockworkMod recovery doesn't) It just wipes the data partition (Where apps are held) and the cache partition (and any clever SD ext formatted data partition as well that any advanced geeks might be playing with). Your ROM/Radio partition and SD card FAT32 data are left alone - you just get back to a clean post-Rom install state Si

Even if you bought an analogue TV over here - different countries use different analogue standards.. We use PAL System I on UHF - Sri Lanka seem (according to Google) use System B on VHF and System G on UHF. Now a lot of modern tellies can cope with the differences but you'd be taking a chance buying one over here and shipping it there. regards Simon

In KS4 - teachers jobs are on the line to get GCSE results so you can't expect/want them to do anything else except get the pupils the highest grades in ICT. However, you might try pushing the teachers to learn and teach pupils how to learn programming in Scratch in KS3. If you can't get them to do that, then there's no chance of doing anything more. regards Simon

I can cope with limited feature set (as its free ) and I don't mind manually setting it up (as I usually just have 1 or 2 banks or 15 laptops to configure) but the killer neg feature is that if you send out a lock desktop command (to get pupils attention) and then an unlock one and a laptop doesn't respond to the unlock, I can't find any way of manually unlocking it and I have to shutdown, lose any work in progress and start again Now that's what I call a bad bug Si

Doubting Thomas here When people said you just say proxy into voice dialler and a dialog pops up - having tried it a few times I thought it was just a wind-up But its true - at least on a Desire running CM7RC4.
