  1. I'd like to start by thanking all the Edugeekers that have helped me with my (simple ,nay obvious, to them - hard to me ) questions Unfi for coming out with with their absolutely fantastic VFM wifi kit. (And m25man for getting me some toute-suite when I needed them) RaspberryPi for kicking off computer geekdom again Julie at WBS in Blackpool for the best customer service ever (We needed 20 of the same netbooks by tomorrow before Ofsted arrived 2 days later - they were there by 10 am - although I don't know what she said to the person they were supposed to go to! ) Si
  2. I'd like to promote a bit of positivism to (dare I say the word ) negate the negativity that we can find ourselves in at the end of another year. Rule 1 of this thread are - no negatives Rule 2 - Thank/praise/sacrifice small animal to the suppiler/edugeeker/manufacturer/deity of your choice or any other thing Si
  3. Thats not going to help the fixing process now is it? Si
  4. but can't find one I want it to let me filter stuff (like Google Gmail labels or email rules) so can put all tweets by edugeekers (and all tweets that have edugeek in them) into one stream, all tweets with edchat/edtech into another, raspberry pi into another And then quite importantly - all the others into an all the others stream Any chance there is anything like that out there? Si
  5. [edit]deleted - its time to stop [/edit] Si
  6. The w2k3 thing can be changed to any WinOS you like The comparison is meant to be on same hardware otherwise its not a comparision of OS methods I was just wondering if they was any possible true performance gain in running multiple OSs in VMs running on a bare metal hypervisor thingy vs sticking all roles into one WinOS running natively Si
  7. OK - ta Geoff - now the reason for doing this is one of my servers is not keeping good time and we all turned up to canteen for toast 5 mins early because of this! (all my clients have a net use time thingy startup batch file that syncs them to the server) But now I'm struggling to find where to configure this on the w2k3 server - surely it must be easy peasy?? Si
  8. JFI In one of my schools we just have an old ex-teach laptop running XIBO client (server on main server) with an old 15in LCD facing the window where the KS1 parents congregate. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1173161/photos/20120706_095552.jpg Si PS Just has Diary Dates (updated every Fri by deputy) for weeks ahead and any special notices (like sports day cancelled) go at the bottom and sometimes they add in a special upcoming event page that rotates with main info
  9. ...so its a really good idea to tell me before the 11am tea break that you can't print from your classroom since Monday! I come in EVERY friday morning, I have a online helpdesk and we even have an ICT Co-ordinator that can pass msgs to me for those severely IT challenged teachers. I also pass the school 3 times a week and can pop in for quick fixes What sort of cream would you like on your cake? Si T-10.5 and counting
  10. Brain -gone - can't find them Si
  11. I think the whole structure needs re-doing - too many very small niches before the niches have actually got any content/something to talk about. We should start with this general one and then expand when needed when a few threads on similiar subjects start coming up. But +1 for hardware hacking (inc Arduino interface stuff - cant wait to put these babies together when my PI arrives!) Si
  12. Not there till next tues but will look them up then But the controller is about 9 inches wide and the APs are those rounded cuby things if that helps! Si
  13. I'm thinking of suggestioning to my Ruckus school (6 x11G APs and a ZD1000) that we try and flog them secondhand and replace them with say 12 or so Unfis. Is there anyone around who wants to bite my hands off and lets deal, or quite keen, or slightly interested or who'd only take them off my hands as long as I had delivered them to the Channel Islands by Monday at no-cost to them! I'm looking at a fiscally neutral solution for my school so that would work out at about £800 for you Not approached head yet BTW. Si
  14. And don't start painting up little brown boxes and sticking RS on them and posting them to me! - I know you lot!
  15. Still no pi :( Either @Admiral208 was lucky or I'm not I'd even cleared my desk in the hope that it would have arrived by tomorrow I wish I was rich enough to buy one off ebay [edit] Doesn't Mr RS know its my birthday next week![/edit]
  16. Looking for some nice people to come and collect loads of HP2600 (and others) empty cartridges but having some logistical problems if actually getting this to happen - any suggestions please (that don't require 4 pages of paperwork to acheive!) Si
  17. @TronXP But always remember, whatever the weather's like in Newcastle - we don't wear coats! Si (Ex St Cuthbert's pupil) PS Nice info though - I'll get me mam to add it to her favourites PPS - Is the wind chill factor adjusted for Geordies or is it using international standards?
  18. Sorry - your right - that was inappropriate - I don't know how old you are
  19. Funnily enough I bumped into one of the cluster ICT teachers (now a deputy) that I worked with years ago that kicked me off doing stop animation and was telling him about this thread and he said "tell them it was a teacher (e.g him) that taught you (e.g me) how to teach so you are qualified" Simon PS Until this thread, I'd never heard of the term "instructor" - we just have parent helpers/TAs/HLTAs and then teachers in my primary schools. But let me know their pay grade and I'll start working on it
  20. Has anyone done (or got link to a reliable source - not just used Google ) any real performance/issues test on mutiple VMs doing different roles e.g a single W2k3 machine running file/print/ad/dns/dhcp) over say the same physical machine running one one of more VMs for different roles (e.g run the ad/dns/dhcp on one VM and the file/print server on another). CAn you actually gain real world performance or are you always going to get a performance hit vs benefits of quick diaster recovery/ease of maintenance? Si
  21. witch said simplesi said 15 All? You know - It gets worse - I take the laptops home and mend them at weekends/evenings I think we've proved we are -j on this issue and there's no common ground apart from us being 2 grumpy old people Si
  22. And what percentage of its time has been spent above 11000 rpm ? :) Si
  23. @SYNACK - You should know by now to exclude yourself from these questions - you are the undoubted tech god of the primary world Si
  24. Its simple supply and demand - there's just no practical way to satisfy the demand so any announcements that they can/are are just wishful thinking - there's the queue of people who've ordered - theres the queue waiting to be asked and then there is the queue waiting for the queue to die down! Si
  25. Another day - no email - no pi Even one of my Y5 pupils at one of my schools has got one - and from RS no less! Not being lucky here! Si
