Having a problem with one of our SB800 SmartBoards where the pen won't write in certain areas of the board. If you draw a line with the pen, it leaves gaps or draws in dots - a bit like when the ink is running out of an ordinary pen. If I scribbled all over the board, there would blank areas - as if there were grease on a piece of paper. The first thing I did was to re-orient the board. This made no difference. Next, I cleaned the camera lenses in each corner, which appeared to do the trick until I got to the bottom right-hand corner where the problem persisted. I then put the pen down and tried just touching the board with my finger to see if the cursor would move to the bottom right hand corner, which it did. I could also drag as if to select multiple objects in the same area. With the pen tool selected in Smart Notebook 11.3, I could also draw in the affected area with my finger, but not with the pen - unless I held the pen at an angle when it wrote perfectly. I have also changed the nibs on the pens but I can still only write in the bottom right hand corner either with a finger, or with the pen held at an angle. How strange! Ideas anyone?

Had a quick look at this thread, as my nephew is really into transport type games. He even has this Street Cleaning Simulator. Two weeks ago, our bursar asked me if it would be possible for her to have access to SIMS/FMS from home. I said I would set up a free LogMeIn account for her. Fantastic. Last week, our head forwarded to me an email from the LEA advising that they would be introducing secure remote access later in the year as part of our SLA. Brilliant! Yesterday, I got the email from LogMeIn saying that the free service was being (had already been!) withdrawn. Oh, poo! For the sake of simplicity, I'm tempted to pay the £29 for the first year but that would be rewarding them for the scandalous way they pulled the plug without ANY prior warning.

StevieM hug heading your way (and I'm good at hugs!). You have my most sincere sympathy. I can only begin to imagine how you must be feeling. The relationship between a man and his dog is something that cannot be understood by anyone who has never experienced it. I only know how much my Jess means to me, and even the thought of losing her is unbearable. You will never be able to replace him but, as others have said, make sure you spend some quality time with your other dog and remember the good times.

For the last few weeks, I've had a children's TV show from the 80's randomly popping in and out of my head from time to time about an artificially grown female batch diminibeing (or a girl to you and me) named Luna... which just so happens to be at number 5.

^ This ^ Although I tend to use 3 scoops of grounds and fill the Aeropress to number 3 (ie 3 espressos) and I top up a large mug with frothed milk for a latte. If I don't do this in the morning, I have a headache by morning 'playtime'. Once I'm in school, though, it's either water or some kind of herbal infusion - usually nettle with half a teaspoon of locally sourced honey. Used to drink gallons of coffee years ago, but it gave me an irregular hearbeat. I'm much better these days.

A school is most certainly not a public place as it is only open to people with a legitimate reason to be there, and not the public at large. If any of your pupils are featured inside the school grounds, then I would suggest that you have a case on child protection/privacy grounds. Also, if any of the commentry that represents the school in a bad light is inaccurate, it may also be classed as slander.

I spoke too soon. One has developed a fault today so it doesn't open all the way. The lamp illuminates, but the picture is distorted. It's currently being held in place by a piece of sellotape. I've just emailed Paul so, hopefully, it will all be sorted soon. EDIT: Less than 20 minutes later and I have a warranty call logged. +1 (again) @paday

Happy New Year, everyone. Back in school today, although I spent several days editing photos and doing pages about all our festive activities for the school website. Wonder how @nephilim is getting on?

We've been having the same problem here and I've finally found a solution that works for us. It involves creating a Service Locator record in your DNS. I'd love to say that I figured it out all by myself, but the credit goes to AC Brown's IT World blog. Hope this works for you too.

I'm always torn between amusement and disappointment when I see threads like this when people snipe at teachers and gripe about being undervalued. While I'm sure that many of the comments are justifiable, all it demonstrates to me is that the school in which you work isn't a particularly good one. If this is the case, look for another job - possibly outside education. Like @AMLightfoot, I also was a teacher in a previous incarnation. During this time, my social life was reduced to taking some of my marking to the pub on the way home, having a couple of pints and a chat before going home and getting everything ready for the next day before going to bed. I was in a school were I was totally unappreciated by the headteacher who took every opportunity to put me down, often in front of staff, parents and even my class. Needless to say, I didn't cope particularly well. I stuck full time teaching for a year before moving on to supply and then lecturing. Now I am IT tech in a school in which I used to do supply teaching regularly. Yes I still have a huge workload and have to take things home. Yes, I often come in for grief from staff when things go wrong or change in way that they don't like, but overall, I am part of a team. Teachers rely on me to make sure things happen and appreciate that they would be in a whole lot of bother if I wasn't around. A teacher who has just left at the end of term said to me, 'I just hope that there's one of you in my new school.' Says it all really. Come on edugeekers, let's have a bit of peace, love and harmony. If you don't want to work in a 'them and us' culture, stop taking the role of 'us' and let the 'thems' follow your lead. Merry Christmas, everyone.

Oh, well. *Gulp* Errrr...but I DO have an awful lot of website stuff to catch up on. Ooohh, I'm going to be SSSSOOOO busy I won't have any time to enjoy Christmas at all.
