  1. quintolabs proxy does and is cheap, combined with pfsense + squid + squidguard there does not seem to be any limits to it. Web Filter for Squid Proxy - Simple and Powerful
  2. I spent a lot of time looking into this and tried and got quotes from various companies. The one I liked the least was smoothwall which appears to be the simplest from the end point, but they were extremely pushy and seem to imply that there product is the only option available and reflect this in the high cost, licence per machine with a support licence per machine as well and a £700 remote installation fee, (yes £700 for someone not to get out of there chair.) Censor net seems to be a good product with a fair price and very friendly support team with a choice of cloud or local based install, the only draw back I found was a few limitations with the product, speaking to there development team they were willing to help adjust there product to the needs of the school, price was a little cheaper than smoothwall without the support cost per licence or installation fee. The final product I went with was a mix of PFsense for firewall and a little know product called Diladele Web Filter, I wouldn't recommend this for any school unless you have someone who has a good knowledge of setting up and configuring linux servers, but with the cost of a minor £400 per 1000 users per year, and a easy to use web interface, it works for me.

Making me feel very old now. Frontier Elite and civilization.
  4. Microsoft expression, think it is free for short clips.
  5. Filtering £280 per year for 1000 users, put on top of a 330 meg BT fiber line for £1800 per year, using pfsense for firewall. Job done. Better than the £15000 cost per year for SWGFL for a 35 meg line.
  6. Firmly agree, if I am paying for a product on a yearly contract then included in that agreement should be unlimited support. If I purchase a product on a one off payment then extended support should be chargeable.
  7. I downloaded and tested Censornet which was very easy to setup and had very helpful tech guys, who were more than happy to help us test it. It looked good from what I saw and had no complaints from staff, price was a lot better than smoothwall. Smoothwalls £750 remote installation charge just seems to be outrageous, who really wants to pay someone £750 to not leave there desk.
  8. Sounds like an issue in the profile. Add read and execute permissions to all users on the following locations: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files folder %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER folder Reboot and see if it fixes it.
  9. We had an issue which they claimed was due to a coupler being used between the till and the wall socket, increasing the length of the cable from switch to 20m instead of 15m, which we then took out. Problem turned out to be a network card fault in the top up machine.
  10. Any clue on the price of the service?
  11. pfsense + squid3 (with ssl bump) + squidguard (possibly dansguardian not sure if it can run alongside squidguard.) I have been playing not managed a final setup yet but have had some success.
  12. We are using Home Access Plus for documents, And have set up a virtual OpenVPN server for sims access and other stuff, openvpn free, simple to setup (does need a few ports opened,) and works. Am keen to have a look at Direct access but as with most Microsoft stuff it is a bit of a pain to get setup.
  13. You are right all users will have to change there password, which must be at least 8 characters. It does work if you simply change the password to the same as it currently is, eg Password123 to Password123. As for the orignal error: When you set up the google apps did you use Administrator as the main admin account, if so this now may have got confused with the Administrator account from your local domain. Try creating a new administrator on the google apps then re install the password sync using the new account for the connection details.
  14. Could do But would rather check myself.
  15. No Idea, Don't really care I love the work (most of the time)
  16. 6:00 get up 6:15 dial into VPN and check servers, then check for emails. 7:30 arrive at work after 45 min drive. Run round school fixing as many issues as possible before anyone else arrives. 8:30 quick check on all laptops, the check laptop bookings for the day. 9:00 coffee and wait for chaos to start. Try to manage checking 2 sets of laptops in and out while logging and responding to calls. 10:50 check backups from previous night. Try to manage checking 2 sets of laptops in and out while logging and responding to calls. 13:00 put all laptops on charge and check condition. 13:10 try and eat lunch before phone rings/door opens. 13:12 get called out to fix something some where. 13:30 another mouth full of food before being called to fix something for assembly. (shocking how many people can nit turn a projector on.) 13:50 give up one the now cold food and continue you the ever increasing work load. Try to manage checking 2 sets of laptops in and out while logging and responding to calls. 15:30 leave school 1900 dial back in via VPN and try to cix any issues that can be done remotely. 22:00 give up for the day, glad that I am lucky enough to do a job I love for the most parts.

  20. I know you fixed it know, but just thought I would like to add. I had an issue with HP officejets scanning to windows server 2012 r2, which worked fine for 2003. The fix for me was to install Windows8.1-KB2887595-v2-x64.
  21. If you have had any experience in programming before it is a very easy language to learn, I used the Lynda.com php + sql and learnt all I needed in a couple of nights. You will also need to know a bit of HTML + CSS. John
  22. Had one of these office jets die a week before warranty expired. Contacted Hp online and had a replacement the next day, old printer was picked up the following day with no charge to the school.
  23. I used the lynda.com php+mysql course which taught me all the basics, from there google is your friend.
  24. Does the Show to box not do anything then? What if you want it visible to someone else after the ticket has been created. Thank you for pointing me sort of in the right direction.
