i had the same problem of teachers logons failing to upgrade sims correctly, think i took the long route to solve it. I setup an msi that deploys a regedit to set the machine to auto logon to an administrators account then instead of running explorer.exe runs an vb app that runs sims waits for the logon screen to appear then sets all the reg edits back to normal then resets the machine. This is a little dodgy if the user knows too much about windows, they can bring up the task man and start explorer.exe and have administrators rights, but there is a time limit set for the sims install wich auto resets the machine if it is logged on too long.

Ubuntu Hardy Heron on my Acer Aspire 7720G. Straight easy install from the cd. (looks like the install screens have been resized to fit onto a 7 inch screen) Sound,GFX,Lan,WLan,Webcam,Cardreader all worked straight away with no driver install or problems. Firefox now has a setting to allow it to use the same proxy as the system, saves having to switch it in 2 places everything i go home. have encountered a small glitch, can not see windows shares, it shows all the machines on the network but no shares, if i type in the share name in the address bar it shows it with no problems at all.

haven't had this exact error but something that seemed to be along the same sort of lines. I cured it by clearing out the dns list and letting it rebuild them all, it slowed things down for a hour or so but was fine after that. also for the replication error just stop ntfrs service and start it again on all domain controllers one at the time

On Ubuntu there is a loverly program you can install called DosBox that emulates dos, using this i can get most games working perfectly (except pinball dreams).
-
There is a free program called wininstallLE. 1) install wininstall 2)Run discovery 3)install application you want to create an msi of 4)run discovery again 5) finished you should now have an MSI of all changes made between the two scans.

I would deploy these 2 files using an MSI, and then set the file security in a gpo under Computer Config - Security Settings - File System.
-
Dont hold me to this but i believe there is a gpo setting in computer config - admin template - system - logon, called wait for network connection or something, this i think forces windows to wait until it is fully connected with update gpo settings before displaying the logon screen.

I had a phone call from a teacher last Friday that went as follows: Teacher: My laptop has stopped working! Tech: Could you be a bit more precise? was there any error messages? what was you doing when it stopped working? Teacher: It has been broken for a while it just finally gave up. Tech: When does it stop working, at the boot screen or in windows. Teacher: I don't know there is a big crack going along the screen so i can not see. Tech: how did a crack get in the screen? Teacher: I don't know i just opened it up and it was there, i haven't dropped it or anything. Seriously this is not a joke!!!!

We are toying with the idea having two laptops returned to us a week, under the pretense of updating\cleaning. We hope this should cut down on file sharing and misuse of the laptops and might even stop people from just leaving them at home all the time.

Got 32 of these in the school now so thought I should comment. They are ugly! They are slow! I took one home over the holidays to play with and have to admit I found myself using this ugly, slow thing instead of my monster of a laptop, it is light small and for browsing the web and vnc it is perfect. It also fits very easily into a back pack. I would be very happy carrying one of these around our wireless enabled school and using it to rdp to server, to allow me to do my job from anywhere. As for having XP not Linux, I can see no point complaining about having the licence there to use if you want to if not these machines specs are good enough for running Linux. Forgot to rant: What is the point in supplying skype bluetooth phones to education?

V.OLD Elite bar far one of the best games ever! frontier elite ----- Good follow up. Civilization 1 Old PC: Blood, Doom, Duke3d(jet pack action), Theme Park. Console: Mario, Mario Kart, Bomerman(snes with multitap). All these games kept me amused a lot longer than any of the current top titles.

A Very old worn out Audi 80 1.9 tdi. Manual windows. Sunroof does not work. driver seat squeaks if you turn a corner to quickly. Suspension has it own magical ballad of sounds. But I still love it!
