  1. Yeh that's the next step I think.. I can't even move the router into a cupboard etc as its dictated as to where the Virgin line comes in! She also doesn't want cable running round the house.. Pain in the a$$
  2. Brought this the other week and got it out and set it great, the Mrs lays eyes on it and says it has to go. Apparently it's ugly!!! So this has literally been turned on configured, reset and then put back in the box. This is an EU version which is the same as the UK version apart from the plug. I'll include the UK adapter I brought with it. These are £200 to buy, looking for £160 delivered ..
  3. Veeam offer s free backup solution for VMs
  4. Is anyone who uses Progresso also using an external SMS provider? Or does anyone have an SMS provider they can recommend? Thanks
  5. I've just finished moving my students home directories from an old 2003 storage server to a 2012r2 VM Now to start on the staff and shared areas Do I put them all on the same server or on a new machine The setup is a bit flat though. The 2012r2 file server is running on a 3 node hyper-v failover cluster stored on a SAN The server has a 2TB virtual drive attached to it for storage. Do I create a new file server following the same principle or just put them all on the existing file server? 2TB is ample and were probably only using around 1TB at the moment anyway
  6. Yeh i think they do. I was paying £15 a month for that plan but then phoned up every month for about 3 months threatening to cancel and eventually got it down to £7 per month which im happy with. My myself and the other half have one
  7. Iphone 6 and a £7 per month 30 day rolling contract 1200 minutes Unlimited texts Unlimited data
  8. What happens if both of your servers (which i presume are in the same room) are destroyed in a fire?
  9. With O365 does your email still get filtered?
  10. does your mail still get routed through the BGFL though?
  11. We're planning to move to Office 365 with an external supplier very soon ad have had the financing etc signed off. Ive now just read the Migration to an external email provider document that Lnink2ICT need signing off by the governors before they will release the MX records for the domain. Its quite blunt and to the point that if you move away from Link2ICT then you (the school) are responsible for complying with the DPA and all the filtering etc.. Which is fine as you are then not using their service . . Have any Birmingham schools moved away from Link2ICT's offering of O365 and gone with an external supplier??
  12. The 10TB we already have is the DS1512+ http://www.amazon.co.uk/Synology-DS1512-DiskStation-10TB-Solution/dp/B007MCUYX2 The 15TB i'll buy is the DS1513+ (as it has USB3) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Synology-DS1513-15TB-DiskStation-Desktop/dp/B00CV7U3AW/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1421412672&sr=1-2&keywords=DS1513%2B#productDetails The 15TB version will be the main backup location in the server room which i'll then replicate to the 10TB version in another part of the building
  13. Thanks, that is very similar to what im planning to do. Im trying to do this as cheaply and effectively as possible. I already have a 10TB synology NAS. The plan was, Server and 15TB NAS in the server room for the main backups. Then replicate this (or parts) to the 10TB NAS in another location in the school Then periodically export to USB3 and take offsite From what I can see its cheaper to buy the server and NAS rather than filling the server with drives
  14. Im looking to introduce Veeam to backup our Hyper-V installation. We currently use DPM which is a bit flaky at best. I have the following 3 x Hyper-V nodes in a failover cluster 2 processors and 64GB RAM in each node. putting it simply, I want to be able to backup all these VMs to a NAS and then also back them up periodically to a USB device to take off site. I intend to buy the following HP Gen 9 server, Xeon 8-core, 16GB RAM, 3x 300GB SAS drives, USB 3 15TB Synology NAS 2 x 5TB USB 3 Drives Veeam Essentials Now, I will need to have the offsite backups encrypted is this possible with Veeam? If it is, can I do it with the standard edition or do I need to use the Enterprise edition.. Can anyone see a flaw or have any better solutions to this?
  15. Any reason you don't want to use USB keys? We introduced it for staff in may and have only had to replace 1 out of about 65. We brought 8GB sticks and reduced them down to 10kb so they can only be used to unlock the machines We brought these as they are metal and more robust plus the big loop on the end means they are easily attached to keys etc http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Technology-DataTraveler-8GB-DTGE9/dp/B009DA7F6K Think we paid about £2.50 each Has been working well for us since implementation
  16. I just got an OCZ arc 100 240Gb drive for £65 from PC world They also have the 120GB version for £44 Performance is quite good with read /write at over 400mbs sec The new Kingston v300 I had in he system for 1 day only managed 150mb read write
  17. Email them and they will send you a direct link with a 75% discount I did
  18. stop and resume bitlocker
  19. ive not long joined trainerroad.com which is quite good for indoor training. Basically you hook up a HRM, speed and Cadence sensor to the PC wirelessly via ant+ and then follow the software on the screen. There are plenty of training plans to follow also. Really good for £6 a month
  20. Giant Defy Composite Full carbon and comes it at 7.5KG with pedals Not been out on it much recently but have clocked quite a few miles on the turbo trainer this month. Joined the strava group
  21. I've been using Evernote for years but I increasingly find the IOS app poorly laid out The web or PC/Mac client is great just the mobile app that lets it down. So I was thinking about using one note instead. What do you all use for quick note taking ?
  22. Not really [emoji6] I ripped out my ruckus system for it
  23. Considered unifi? Much cheaper
