I use folder redirection in the GPO to redirect the all programs folder to a folder on the server that just holds icons of the programs that i want them to access. Works really well and is easy to manage.

I got my first IT job in education straight out of college. All i had was a advanced GNVQ in IT. I started working for a large grammar school in Birmingham It wasn't a very well paid job and to begin with was only 2 days a week. There were 6 people being interviewed in total, 5 of them had university degrees in some sort of IT and then there was me, with no experience and just a GNVQ. I got the job because i was more enthusiastic than the rest and showed a willing to learn. I was getting paid about 5k for those 2 days a week, but after about a year i got offered a full time position and it wasn't the best salary but it was the experience i needed to move up. I was one of the 2 IT Technicians but i learnt a lot from that job.

21k Full time but have and get paid for all school holidays (13 weeks a year ish) 2 form entry primary school, 500 users 3 Servers, 100 workstations, 5 printers, 15 IWB's and a photocopier. Employed as an IT techincian in Birmingham.... Have just requested to go up to next grade on 23k and job changed to that of Network Manager,

Yup, excactly the same as i do... And for laptops that don't log onto the domain just set the script to run at startup

I've got the latest version of firefox on my machine but for some reason it wont let me go to any secure (https) sites? Yahoo, ebay etc I can access the sites through IE7 just not firefox... any idea what could be up?

I've just downloaded and installed this program. So far i love it! just waiting for the VNC password so i can see how it works on my test machines but if it goes ok then i'll defiantly be rolling it out across the network. 1 question though..What affect does it have on network performance? My network has a 1gigabit backbone will using VNC slow this considerably?

Have you looked at BGInfo from M$ ? Link Gives a really professional looking background. Just add the a line in the login script to run your customized BGinfo file.

couldnt you just map the drive on 1 server and then use a robocopy script to copy all the data accross?

Hi People, My names Ben, i'm 25 and work in a 2 form entry primary school in Birmingham. I have been in education IT for about 6 years. My previous job was in a team for a high school and sixth form. I've ran an RM version 2.8 network in coexistance with CC3 and played with all the RM products at my last school as we were one of RM's testbed schools. I left there to go to a small primary school with barely a network. 4 years later and i've got my own office/server room, 100 pc's/laptops 3 x Win2k3 servers and a 1GB backbone. Having working in education IT for this long i'm amazed i havnt found this site sooner. Will probably be here often!! Ben
