so.. windows 10 support ... education extended for free
enbiggen replied to 5nowman's topic in Licensing Questions
Our reseller is checking something, but they say that extended support is not available under OVS, but would be available under Campus or CSP. I'm not sure where that leaves us - Campus I'm assuming is for universities, and looking at the CSP acronym, it looks to be "Cloud Solution Provider"? -
ClassCharts doesn't seem to be updating. We have Wonde integration, and looking at access control for Wonde and TES ClassCharts, I can see our new staff and new year 7 pupils are there, but it doesn't seem to have pulled through to ClassCharts. All of our classes in ClassCharts are last years classes. I haven't had a reply to the ticket I put in this morning, and when the staff member who deals with Class Charts on a day-to-day basis tried to get in touch via phone, they were told that they have to do everything via email, and that they're very busy.

Hi, They've migrated to a new support portal - https://help.parentpaygroup.com/csm It can be a struggle getting yourself registered with an account - @SIMS_Customer_Support was very helpful with getting me set up, when we were having the problems shown in this thread.

Smoothwall reporting
enbiggen replied to synaesthesia's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Does this do what you want? Reports -> User Analysis -> Complete IP address audit trail? You need to click on advanced to enter the IP address you want to audit, and you can set the time frame at the top of the reports page. -
Hi, I have the same issue - I can see my case list, but if I look at anything from the Knowledge Base menu I get "Sorry, the page you requested was not found." and the break-out game. I assumed that this was an issue that was affecting everyone, but it sounds like that might not be the case, in which case would it be possible to fix my account too? Thanks.

Another "it worked for me too"... it took an additional 5 minutes with AB Tutor to close down all the instances of SIMS that weren't closed as requested, with a couple of blocks for re-openers, but it went smoothly 🙂 There was no message, and Routines -> Statutory Returns exists again ready for the Census. Thanks everyone for letting me know I wasn't alone in this,

Have you tried the "Check for updates" button in Solus3?
-
Will this patch require no one to be logged into the SIMS server?
-
We've got through on the phone - apparently it's all schools. The poor lady sounded a little stressed out - she asked about the portal, but we said we didn't get an email from the "forgotten your password" link - she said she'd need to ask someone, then the line went dead.
-
I've sent an email to [email protected] in the hope that as the parent company they might be able to at least say that there's a problem.
-
They've a support form, with a "First Name" field, that complains that it's not a valid email address if you put your name in! (I was hoping to contact their sales team as a way of getting some response!) They've not gone bust have they - surely we'd know?

I've found an email from ParentParent pay talking about their new ServiceNow portal (but no mention of being in charge of SIMS, which is why it slipped by) - so I've got a username, but still not receiving the code for forgotten the password...
-
Does anyone have contact details for SIMS - the ESS portal doesn't exist anymore, and ParentPay group doesn't send me password resets, and to register, I a need a code! Our paid for SIMS is now complaining that we need to enter an eligibility key (which we entered quite a few years ago, and haven't received any new updated keys). We're actually one of the few schools that likes SIMS, so you'd think their customer service would be better.

There used to be a forum for requesting quotes, and I always struggled to find it. I'm not sure if I haven't searched hard enough in the new site, or if it's no longer available? If it exists, please could someone point me in the right direction? If it doesn't exist anymore, please could some one tell me so that I can stop looking? I hope it does exist - it was very useful. Thanks.

I'm looking for some guidance on specifying some requirements for a server to be used for hosting virtual images: We're very slowly migrating towards the cloud using Microsoft 365. We have multiple ageing servers, and we'd like a virtual host that we could migrate some of the servers across to, as needed. (Effectively keeping us in a holding pattern, and giving us some flexibility.) We'd like to use Proxmox VE for licensing costs, and experience of use. The existing servers collectively use 48GB of RAM, and 3TB of space. The existing servers perform jobs like Domain Controller, File Server, Print Server, Educational Applications Server and Installation Server. We wouldn't be using ZFS on Proxmox, so we'd want RAID. Ideally we'd be looking at something from HPE, as our other servers are HPE, and one is still under a direct HPE warranty, giving us access to the latest drivers, BIOS updates etc. Does anyone have any recommendations, or major things I'm missing, before I start asking for quotes? Thanks.
-
Our licence supplier says that they haven't been provided with any prices from Microsoft for extended support yet - could you let us know who you got your quote from? Thanks.

Debian (home).

You have my sympathies - we're getting refurbs for some of our pupil machines (already have new machines for staff) but we're trying to find out information about the ESU and getting no-where, as the people we get our licences from say there's only pricing for Higher Education at the moment.
-
Unfortunately not a possibility with the PCs we have, but when I thought about this in the past I've always thought the USB-C socket looks a bit flimsy, especially for pupil facing PCs. (I'd worry about robustness with staff too, but pupils would be even more challenging.)

The DisplayPort is useful in the absence of a HDMI (as the computer has a DisplayPort in addition to a HDMI port), but I know when we've put in orders with Amazon in the past (especially for monitors) they've tended to not have bulk quantities in stock - which you only find out for certain at the point of purchase. Cheers.

Hi, I'm looking at buying thirty LCDs for a new pupil computer room (we already have the computers from spares from an earlier purchase), with the following requirements: Ideally an internal PSU, rather than a power brick. The ones I've been looking at recently all seem to have external PSUs, but I'd prefer to directly plug the AC power into the monitor. HDMI connection, 1920x1080. Only about 21" inches, as we need to keep the width down for space reasons. Lower end of the price range. Does anyone have any recommendations of monitors and/or suppliers? We'd consider refurbished too. Thanks.

Doesn't Inventry use it's own email servers, so it wouldn't appear as sent via 365? (My notifications come from an address at inventryanywhere.co.uk.) If you're looking whether they've been sent, you might not be looking to see if they've been received - could they be stuck in quarantine?

To differentiate between the IT Department (Curriculum) and us, we describe ourselves as the "ICT Support Department" - anyway, I'm going off-topic. I'll try and do the form later.
-
Fell over at an early question: Do we work in the ICT/IT Department? Most of us are whole school, and we work across departments, although I'm probably over thinking things? (It's quite an important distinction vs some other technician roles in school?)

Hi, This works for newer HP laptops where it locks you out after 3(?) attempts and gives you a code - it's been useful where the settings have gotten corrupted for us:https://www.pythonanywhere.com/gists/72a0f8949c47630fad5e6355f42fb672/pwgen-bios-with-i.py/python/ I don't know if it will be any use to you if the laptop is too old? The author's description of their script is: "generate result for HP serial with "i" error code" Thanks.
