We've had quite a few machines stuck at the preparing for updates page. I've now declined KB4493448 and KB4493472 as a precaution - just posting here before I investigate further in case anyone else has the issue (or may be about to experience issues).

Hi, We have a large number of students who need access to combined readers and scribes this year, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience/advice on technical solutions? Currently we need both a large number of invigilators for this, and a large number of rooms being taken out of circulation to accommodate them. We've trialled ExamPad for pupils whose only issue is the legibility of their handwriting, but we need something different for those students who need both a reader and a scribe. Thanks, Duncan.

Our Head's used the old system - she's very careful with forwarding emails and was hoping to continue being able to do it, as it expedites the process. (I wasn't aware the feature even existed, and having heard about I do think it sounds quite useful.) Thanks for the reply - it's useful to have confirmation that there's no way to get it working again.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to forward individual email (not the entire preceding conversation) in Outlook 365? It was apparently possible to send emails previously (at least in Exchange 2010) which didn't automatically include the previous thread by switching out of conversation mode. The only things I've found online so far suggest that Microsoft has removed the feature. Thanks.

I needed to disable https interception for "Microsoft Office 365 [NEW]" in addition to the above too - that seems to have resolved the issues I was seeing.

When I say randomly refreshing I mean that it shows the "Opening your Mailbox" splash screen. I've followed article "1740" (https://kb.smoothwall.net/Content/applications/allowingOffice365.htm) so Smoothwall shouldn't be the issue.

Hi, I'm planning on moving to Office 365, but I'm finding that OWA randomly refreshes, returning you to the front page. So if you're writing an email, you lose it, if you've filtered by "Unread" it goes back to the default etc. It does seem fairly random, and it happens in both Internet Explorer 11 and Google Chrome, so it doesn't look to be browser related. We're using Smoothwall and I've specifically added the filtering exceptions for Office 365, even though it didn't need it to "work". It also happens on two separate machines with two separate users. Has anyone else had something similar, and if so, how did you resolve it? Decommissioning our old Exchange 2010 box would save on warranty renewal, but at the moment it's not something I'd feel okay rolling out. Thanks.

This time I could see the dialog box but it was consistently hidden behind the main window even when I tried to bring it to the front.I then changed the configuration file so that DisableTopMostPriority was set to 1 rather than 0 and it showed up in front, which means I can type the password in and exit now. Hmm.. odd. I go to File->Exit and then I'm not prompted for the password. I'm using ".NET Framework 4.6.1" and "Windows 7". I can live without the exit passcode working for us (sniffles) but it would have been cool to have. Thanks.

Hi, Is anyone else having issues when they set PasswordOnExit? When it's set I can't exit. It's like a modal dialog has opened up and when I click on the window I get the ding you'd normally get when you've got a modal dialog box open. I've tried alt tabbing to see if the dialog had opened up behind the main window but it hadn't. There's no issue when I don't have it set. Thanks.

Given that the majority of the time I pay electronically rather than use cash, I would rather be able to buy things more cheaply than being rounded up to the nearest 5p.

Hi,It's ages since I last played with a barcode scanner, but the PS/2 version I used back then just appeared as a keyboard - I always assumed that the USB ones would be the same? Doesn't that just mean that you select the field, scan, and it types it in for you? (I'm talking generally here.)

Now that I'm sitting down and going through the process - I've realised that the product is for 500-999 users - d'oh - so I'm not expecting to see any issues (crosses fingers).I am by nature a worrywart :-)

Just a quick heads up - I decided to stay onsite (as I was worried about renewal costs after our current contract expires) and I got *exactly* the number of licences as the number of PCs/laptops/servers I specified. This is obviously not what I had with ICT4C, where I was able to add and remove machines as required without worrying that I'd need to pay extra for additional machines. I'm going to query this, but first I'm cleaning up my console to remove duplicates and old/renamed devices in my console.

They've got into administration - the original email from our council suggested that we might lose broadband connection in the next few days, although they've since clarified that it won't be that immediate. From the website, it appears that my council will also endeavour to try and keep Sophos and VPN going too. (We purchased Sophos through ICT4C/YHGfL, and keep it up-to-date from their servers, similarly we use their VPN solution - and had hoped to extend it for use by more staff.) I'm not 100% sure if YHGfL is a slightly different entity (given that ICT4C was set up from it) but I suspect that's gone with it too.

Confirmed: It definitely isn't a scam. Addition: Just thought I'd post saying that everyone we dealt with at ICT4C when we had issues were always helpful, and I wish them well.

Our post hasn't arrived yet today, so the the email looks to have arrived before the official communications from the company. We host our own Smoothwall box, so we wouldn't need additional hardware from the council, but we're concerned about (for example) the Sophos licence, which comes via them, and has been paid for in advance. (We get the updates from one of their servers.) I've noticed that their support portal appears to be down, and the YHGfL site seems to be down for us too... (Obviously the broardband service is important too, but it looks like they're going to offer to take that on at the same price.)

Has anyone else received any news about the status of ICT4C (not wanting to go into details, as I'm not sure if it's a scam or not yet)?

Hi, After "WannaCry" meant that we our existing instance of smb_web_client would no longer work (the server was running a very old version of smbclient, and couldn't be updated, and the version of the SMB protocol it used had had to be disabled), I've updated to the latest Moodle, on the latest long-term-support version of Moodle, with the latest smb_web_client. While I've got normal shares to work, I'm having problems with accessing the user's home directories, which I could access with previously with our old version, and the old version of the SMB protocol. It returns the message that "No home directory specified in ldap for this user", even though ADSI Edit clearly shows that the standard homeDirectory field has the correct information in it for this user. It's been such a long time since I originally set up the old block, that I can't remember if there was anything special that I had to do to access the appropriate directories. The old block was so old that it had to be configured in the source code, and that the various locations for the home directories (staff, year 7 students, year 8 students etc) had to be specified individually in a list - i.e. it looked like it didn't even look the information up. Does anyone have any insight they might be able to offer me? Thanks, Duncan.

Unfortunately I'm not an expert on nmap - it worked for me when scanning clients. (It didn't work for my servers, but I know they're all up-to-date - there was a message about not being able to access IPC or some such). Sorry.
