Thanks for your help - I found KB0014069 and added the exceptions - and can now save documents - yay!

It's not directly solvable for us - due to our setup - but I did confirm that I can add documents on our SIMS server (minimal proxy shenanigans), but not on normal proxy machines. So I'm a step closer to finding a solution too. (SIMS haven't been very helpful for us either.)

For the record we've got the same issue and I submitted a ticket about an hour ago with them...

Sims document server / report generation issues
enbiggen replied to Jamman960's topic in MIS Systems
KB0015925. Hopefully without derailing this thread: I'm just reading this and the sentence jumped out at me (my highlighting): "There will be no storage limits to what schools can hold in the cloud during the migration phase." I'm going to hold off until the start of school holidays and hope they've sorted it before we need it. -
We were meant to have our database taken between 10-10.30 today, but they haven't been in touch. I've emailed our contact (in the time-slot, and after it) but haven't had a reply yet. Is anyone else being transferred today, and have you had any issues?

Well, that's rubbish - I'm not sure how they could have ever thought that was okay before pushing it out: I've got a case open about this this morning - I can't even type the same pupil's name in, as it can't find them (or anyone), unless I go via Pupil Profile, find the student (by name only), then click on the link for the full timetable. If it's a know problem you'd expect them to get back - I suspect they'll leave it until 4pm, then send it, if it's anything like their normal support. (Sorry, I'm getting increasingly cynical and grumpy - and it's not even reached peak heat outside yet.)

sims How to Prevent SIMS Next Gen Default Timetables
enbiggen replied to EFIRMIN's topic in MIS Systems
Timetables switched over today: Look up pupil in SIMS, click on "Timetable" -> opens SIMS next gen at "Welcome to Pupil Timetables" -> No details on specific student, nothing comes up in search for student. Go to Pupils->Pupil Profile in SIMS Next Gen -> can find pupil by name (aside: Not by any other feature, like year, or registration group). Go to Parent Pay Group to raise a case -> VERY SLOW generally -> blank page when it finally opens after clicking create a case. JOYS! -
Hi, I know there's been threads about similar things in the past, but it's my turn to bring this up again 🙂 We want standalone devices that are easy for teachers to record presentations (Business and English, potentially PE, but they're okay for now): They need to be reliable. They need to have reasonable quality internal sound with the camera not too far from the pupil (not the back of the room). The video quality needs to be adequate - HD as opposed to 4K. The battery needs to last for a couple of periods, so ideally 2 hours+. The data needs to be in a standard format, accessible via USB as if it were a memory card. We have some older camcorders that were good, but newer devices that teachers have purchased themselves seem to be unreliable - not recording sound after initially working. Price in the £150/£200 range, rather than a proper camera for performances in the £1000s range. I've had a look, but there's a lot of duff looking stuff out there. Anyone got the perfect solution that they can just plonk on here - I know it's doubtful 🙂 Thanks, Enbiggen.

Wonde Sync and SIMS slowness, huge improvement.
enbiggen replied to chazzy2501's topic in MIS Systems
ParentPay Group upgraded SQL from 2016 to 2022 over the holidays. The database name change meant that Wonde wasn't working, and this meant that Wonde didn't start working until Tuesday (fixed after school ended on Monday) - today we're having timeouts when changing pupil details, and I've discovered that someone was having timeouts yesterday (but no reports of time-outs on Monday). I've put in a ticket with ParentPay SIMS about this, and think it might be the same issue (due to the event timings). -
Things seem to be back to normal for us - we'll keep an eye on things.

Hi, Our general internet connection appears fine, but loading Microsoft 365 pages seems a little slow, so I was wondering if it's a "just us" thing, or whether anyone else was having issues? There's nothing major on their health dashboard yet. Thanks.
-
Well, they've updated us (we had a contract after October 2026) - it looks like they won't be continuing service or novating the contract, so we're looking for something else now.

There's an incident report on the Microsoft health dashboard now. This thread clued me on the issue, and I was just able to read about it before the first ticket came in. [Edit] They do say "admins" in the incident report, not "users", so I'm not 100% sure if it's the same issue?

Smoothwall - Instant notifications
enbiggen replied to MatthewL's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
It was a while back, but I remember having to create an email group to send to, as beyond a certain number of email addresses, it didn't send them to them all... -
We've just had two drop-outs this morning of about 5-10 minutes - one coming back up at 7:07, the other at 7:40. I tried to use the portal link on emPSN's website, but that doesn't work either through their network, or my phone. I've been in touch via phone, but they say they can't see any drops... It's not ideal, especially with emPSN due to close next October.

It's weird getting this information here first, as no-one's been in contact with our school as far as we're aware. We should be covered by this line from their FAQ: Admittedly this removes a degree of autonomy (and forced me to look up what "novate" meant 🙂) We only moved to them at the start of the year after our council shuttered their school internet connection service, recommending empsn. 😞

We had no access when I got in on Friday, then it came up briefly, then down until the afternoon, then back up, and looked like they'd sorted it. It went down between 7.15-7.45pm yesterday (looked at logs), and wasn't up this morning. We're still without internet access. SIMS is now not saving registers, and we're unsure if that's because something is locked due to SIMS NextGen (the only internet-related thing that's changed recently). While it's a P1 case, and we're getting updates every hour/couple of hours, we're feeling a little in the dark, so I'm just wondering if there's any fellow travellers who can relay their experience. Thanks, Enbiggen.

so.. windows 10 support ... education extended for free
enbiggen replied to 5nowman's topic in Licensing Questions
We were told they couldn't be ordered until the start of October... I may order 4 additional licences for three years, as there are four devices we can't easily replace within 1-year. -

enbiggen replied to 5nowman's topic in Licensing Questions
I wasn't aware that it was all three years at once - so we can't buy year 2 or 3 once we've purchased year 1? -
We've just had Class Charts close a bug ticket (the activity feed stops working for one user - who continuously monitors the feed as part of their role - regardless of the computer they're on, but works for everyone else), as though it were a feature request, and they're not going to do anything about it.
