  1. A switch from 2003 with a 10Gb uplink made by D-Link? Sounds unlikely???
  2. We use US-48-500w for PoE and US-48. Very very happy with all our Unifi kit.
  3. So Unifi "cloud" isn't really cloud. The controller is hosted either locally or in your choice of cloud provider. Their "cloud login" allows you to access it remotely. Therefore this isn't quite accurate.
  4. Indeed, I wouldn't use it at my core. However for edge switching or WiFi it has all the functionality a school would require. In terms of redundancy etc their new switching line does have redundant PSUs now. Yes only a 1 year warranty but it's so cheap you can buy spares of everything and still be saving a fortune!
  5. There'll be even less money if they get hit with a huge fine for a data breach because they were running unpatched old software...
  6. What server upgrades are holding you back from moving to Windows 10? You're aware that your Windows 7 PCs will receive no security updates as of January yes?
  7. It has been stable and mature for quite some time now! You're talking about an OS that has been out for circa 4 and a half years!
  8. Look at the number of Windows 7 issues on Edugeek.... Windows 10 is a stable mature platform now.
  9. I find it staggering that any school would be on an unsupported version of Windows, given how long Microsoft have published the timeline and especially given the huge fines for data breaches under GDPR. Some places are far far far too blasé about things like this/lastminute.com - Windows 10 has been out for so long now as have newer versions of Windows Server that there's no excuse - I'm not getting at IT staff if they can't get funding for appropriate kit etc but this is a scandal waiting to happen with so many schools lagging behind.
  10. If you want everything in one place (switching and WiFi) and far far cheaper - Ubiquiti Unifi.
  11. Allowed for everyone, has been for years, no issue.
  12. I might be wrong - but the first reports I saw related to beta firmware.
  13. Agreed, however I thought this only related to beta firmware - has this firmware actually moved to production release?
  14. From the horse's mouth: Hi All- We want to help respond to concerns voiced over the recently added phone home/performance data collection feature in UniFi and want to explain what this feature is and the future plans for this. What data is being collected: We have started to gather crashes and other critical events strictly for the purpose of improving our products. Any data collected is completely anonymized, GDPR compliant, transmitted using end-to-end encryption and encrypted at rest. The collection of this data does not and should not ever impact performance of devices. Why we are collecting this data: The purpose of this data is to help us better fine-tune and improve device performance for all UniFi users so that we can ensure that everyone gets the best possible experience from their UniFi devices. With this data we can measure and optimize improvements and more quickly identify and fix any regressions. How will this affect you? For all our users, this data will help us improve the overall experience of using UniFi devices. As noted above, all the data we collect is used only for optimizing performance of the devices/software. All data is gathered in accordance with GDPR requirements and as permitted by our Privacy Policy. No data we collect is shared or accessible to third parties. If you do not wish to participate/provide this data, we will add an opt-out button in upcoming versions that will make it easy to opt-out of providing this data. In the meantime, you can block traffic from UniFi devices to trace.svc.ui.com. For any further questions related to this, please review our EULA, Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  15. What is your existing filtering service?
  16. It's a really high quality service... The lack of filtering is particularly concerning.
  17. Fully boxed with power adaptor.
  18. I'm telling you I got it for less than £150 - including the management licence it was £154! That wasn't buying hundreds either! The 16Gb causes no problems at all, it manages the storage and very little is stored on the device in any case. All new Chromebooks have to have USB-C charging - it's a Google requirement for certification.
  19. As previously said, you can get a decent Chromebook for less than £150, it'll last you at least 6 years. It will work out cheaper than an equivalent Windows device.
  20. If you delete a user their entire account including email and drive goes from vault - this may cause compliance issues depending on your data retention policy.
  21. Stop looking at synthetic benchmarks and actually use one. They are brilliant.
