, why not do further education while you are working now (do not quit your job though)? Most employers are looking for at least HND, Foundation Degree qualification or Microsoft/Cisco certification now a day (if you do not have any IT experiences). I do not think to have only strong passion in IT would get you a job. I would recommend, just go a bit further with your study. This will demonstrate your personal development to your prospective employer. When you are applying for a job. You should study each Person Specification carefully and try to tailor your personal statement to each Person Specification requirement. Do not give up and just keep improving yourself .

I am not sure what is your Optiplex 780 current specification, but firstly, I would just upgrade those desktops RAM or/and replace Hard Drives (if you feel those computers are too slow) as well as upgrade OS to Windows 7 or 8, if you have not done so, to save your school money for the first year. Secondly, look at your network switches, if you do not have managed network switches then you may consider to get one (e.g. HP Procurve, Cisco Catalyst). Thirdly, once you have good network in place, you may consider to invest into a managed wireless network(e.g. Ruckus, Cisco, Meraki). By the time you get all these in place your 30 desktops become very old, then you may replace them with very nice desktops, laptops, tablets or mixture of these. So instead of spending all your money at once, you can just spread them out over 2-3 years period and that how I did it for my current school.

I've never seen Canon makes 50-70mm lens, but they do EF-S 55-250mm Lens. EOS 1100D Body is OK. If you can stretch your budget, may be consider Tamron 18-270 lens (instead of buying Canon 18-55mm Kit lens)

I see that you listed out all of your qualifications what you have achieved so far. But have you had any other work experiences (retails, catering, education, etc)? IT is not all about Technical stuff. You also have to demonstrate to your prospective employer that you have interpersonal skills and business skill? This is just my general view of my current role anyway. So when you applied for those jobs, did you have any replies? Did you have any interviews?

Can you tell us of what is your IT network like? How many clients computer and servers do you have? How many PCs that are actually installed with SIMS? I just want to know what sort of scale you are talking about?

We still have Windows Server 2008 32 bit for our SIMS and just upgraded our Windows XP client to Windows 7 recently. Windows Server 2008 is still supported from what I can see from the Technical roadmap anyway. Upgrade to Windows 7 is not that hard work and it will not cost you that much (have you considered EES path yet?). Also Windows 7 interface is almost similar to Windows XP, so the training part for all of your admin staff would be very simple. Do not panic, your SIMS will not stop working overnight (apart from you have a power cut).
