SYSMAN_UK hit the nail on the head. You'd save yourself a lot of hassle if you just use photoshop and make a decent sized one. Or even failing that get InfranView, open the version you've already got and use the resize feature to get a copy of the background that doesnt need stretching on the server. Also if it's remote desktop you need to check your client options as to whether it's going to show backgrounds on remote connections.

My spam's not really been increasing to be honest. I seem to be maintaining a constant stream throughout the year. The annoying thing is that anywhere you look on the internet and see Joedetic, it's 99.9999% likely to be me (who else would have a stupid nick like that), so when the e-mails refer to me as Joedetic I can't work out which site has sold me up the stream for spam because they're all using Joedetic

I was asked to produce two desktop backgrounds for my school. I produced a staff one and a student one. Both of which underwent many revisions at the request from the head of ICT until they were exactly as he wanted. They looked both professional and they details on contacting ICT services for students and staff on the separate files. A few months after i leave, they replace them with some sh*tty one for everyone that looks as if it's been done in mspaint and is a VERY poor copy of mine...same layout, similar content with regards to words. I found it quite offensive to be honest that they find that p*ss poor copy a better version than I produced after a few months of revising it down to an exact spec from the HoD.

I forget what it's called in IIS but have you added the default document for directory/site you've made as index.php ???

Why can't you install apache and put the current HTML site onto that instead? You can use the same server, just remove IIS.

You want something like a Wifi Ethernet Bridge. I have a linksys one that i'm trying to sell at the moment (not trying to sell it to you though don't worry). Linksys WET54G-UK Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge I used to use it to connect my web server in my dad's garage to the wifi network and then onto the internet. It worked quite well. You can take the ethernet from the bridge and connect it to a switch to bridge a smaller remote network onto a main network running a wifi AP like your router for example.

As one of the "younger generation" I've been bought up to write properly and have never really been a big fan of txt-speak as it were, but I do tend to shorten yeah to yh and indeed to idd if it's just an MSN convo. I have however been guilty of letting yh slip onto the boards and lol etc. I suppose it helps that my last two phones didn't have the nasty ABC/numeric keypads but an onscreen keyboard and a qwerty thumb board respectively. My gran uses more txt speak than I do, it's quite funny actually because I can't understand most of what she's trying to tell me.

Yeah, that was the case when the hosting was at the LEA...i /don't/ however think it was like that when they changed it over to our internal hosting. Something to do with name based vhosts i reckon. Yeah, sch.uk domains are all very well and good but ours was really long and not very memorable. People kept forgetting it. http://st-francis-s.walsall.sch.uk. I mean....there's no way people are gonna remember that. http://www.stfrancis.cc is what was bought when ICT started to grow within the school and we took over the hosting ourselves etc. The cc was chosen because as far as parent's are gonna know, it means catholic college, not a TLD country code

Yeah, if it's making a weird noise it's either becuase there's coffee goo stuck in something like bizzel said or because it's shorted a controller for something because it was still damp inside when you turned it on and whatever that controller controlled is now acting erratically causeing the noise.

I've got the 20meg package. I live in a house with 3 other people and considering we're paying for 20meg, browsing and http downloads i get barely 2meg at times. However, if i'm in on my own and everyone else isn't using the internet then i get >10meg. Torrents and other UDP traffic such as MSN Webcam put too much of a load on my crappy little router and it can't handle it. It's going to be replaced with a cisco 2611XM for a few days to see if greater memory and processing power helps a little to bring the speeds up. I've found that running my own dns server helps a little bit with browsing speeds. With regards to capping speeds, well...I can't tell because the speeds don't get fast enough.

For normal classroom use we had a LOT of 17" monitors. In the DT ICT Suite we had 19" monitors purely for CAD reasons. It just looks better on a bigger screen

It's not post-nominals or a certificate or training as such but you could join the IET as something to put down on your CV to show that you've got a personal interest in keeping up to date in the world of Technology. I'm a member, i get a nice studenty discount and some nice magazines in the post with some interesting developments in comms engineering (something i'm interested in obviously). IET is quite engineering / technology based as opposed to computery...so it depends what side of computing/tech you're into i suppose.

I have sucessfully had DVI - HDMI using a DVI-D convertor (fits DVI-I ports too). I then connect the VGA monitor to the other DVI port on my GFX card using a DVI - VGA convertor. The principal would be the same if you had one VGA and one DVI...just connect the VGA monitor to the VGA out and the HDMI monitor to the DVI out by means of a convertor. Sorry if that doesn't help much, i cant tell exactly what you're trying to do. It seemed like you were trying to connect a device with a digital input (HDMI) to an analogue output (VGA).

I did google. And it bugs me as much as the next person when someone posts a question that could be solved by a simple googling. But when you're trying to sort something and getting more and more frustrated by the minute and you have sat there googling for 10 minutes with no definative answer you begin to realise that maybe it's time you posted somewhere where someone might be able to help you quickly...ie edugeek. Whilst I had seen that table before and it /does/ seem to suggest that my router and the IOS version i have should support dot1q...it doesnt. There are no encapsulation commands where there should be if you hit the ? key for the list of possible commands. Also ANOTHER reason for my post. It's now a moot point because I bit the bullet and bought an XM now.
