Working out that the bank of laptops in one room have chargers that fit your laptop so you can "borrow" one to leave at home = theft.

Although this problem is at my two "basic" schools,which are normally fine, one of my sites is trialling their "full on" inspection and has been having all sorts of niggles. Looks like a SBB issue. My "full on" school had "no internet" this morning (I suspect that certain sites weren't working) and I'm currently at another site and can't get to Office.com, which was fine when I got here.

I'd disagree about women in the book, just look at the Bene Gesserit! I can't remember Chani being subservient, but it has been a loong time since I read the books. I found the sequence where Paul starts to become a Fremen in the film poorly edited. Did Chani help him cheat? That's what it looked like, but that part of the movie could have been a montage scene with the longest parts ever. I might have to rewatch the Lynch version, as he managed to fit Alia in properly. Nope, Arrival left me cold.

I'm not sure how turning Chani so sulky caters to today's audiences. On second thoughts... Things like the compression of the timescale (presumably to avoid having to cast a kid as Alia?) felt unnecessary, as did the more subtle changes as to the way the duel went down. As for Denis V, I find his films to be intellectually stimulating and they look great, but they never engage me emotionally. I've only seen his SF output and "Prisoners", though.

Dear Mr Toth, If you had been paying attention, you would have noticed that it was not nuclear bombs that caused the reaction that sent Moonbase Alpha on its journey, but a hitherto unrecorded reaction in the nuclear waste that was being stored there. It was also implied in later episodes that the moon's journey had been guided by a higher power or intelligence. This, combined with Victor Bergman's incredible scientific skills and the moon's traversal of space warps and a black hole would account for its ability to remain intact and travel so far and fast. I'll get me anorak.

Dune: Part 2 (Cinema) Found this a much better watch than Part 1 but, after refreshing my memory of the book on Wiki, it did seem to deviate, sometimes for no discernable reason, from the book. I will probably watch both parts at home as the picture at our local cinema is sometimes a bit murky. Not sure my subwoofer will be as impactful, though. Worth a look if you enjoyed the first. I do find Villeneuve's work a bit "distant", though.

Windows machines can be controlled via Group Policy where you can whitelist "allowed" networks and block access to anything else on the Network Permissions tab. (We just have a block in place for our guest network). Whatever MDM you use for other devices probably has a similar setting. I know Mosyle can do it for iPads.

Just had an alert that the above has turned up on eBay. It's an unofficial tie-in to the movie " " that tells Elise's story in epistolary format. It's kinda rare as it was a small press self-publication that got slapped with a cease-and-desist by the author of the original book ("Bid Time Return" by Richard Matheson). The vendor obviously knows it's worth something as bids start at £50 (too rich for me!) but doesn't seem to realise it's fictional.

When we used a proxy we never seemed to need to switch. The laptops seemed to default to "direct" if the proxy wasn't found.

Yep, I got one and it was extremely limited and not easy to activate if you did think it was going to be covered. Was with the RAC and you had to get it looked at at one of "their" places etc etc.

The Retirement Plan (Rental most places, but when we looked it was cheaper to buy it for £1.99 from Apple than rent it) Nic Cage plays a retired agent who has to use his particular set of skills when his daughter and granddaughter are in trouble. OK for a couple of quid, but not as funny as the trailer makes it look.
