Call me old fashioned, but i'm pretty sure one of the key factors of war is that people die. I regularly read the BBC news website and I find it a little strange that today it's being reported that "someone has died and two others have been injured". Isn't that the point? Eggs will be broken. Either we're so good (or the insurgents are so bad) that it's an event when we actually chalk up a casualty, or it's a slow news day, but surely it's gonna happen? Maybe it's the increased media penetration and the ever-pervading nature of today's media coverage means that we're able to know about it. Now, before you get your flamethrowers out, I'm not disrespecting in any way the men and women who are out there. I dare say many of them don't agree with all that's going on but are doing their duty regardless. It's still war. (ok, perhaps not technically a war, but a ..... "Forced Democratic Transitionary Period". Call it what you like) Here endeth today's random musing. Thoughts?

How locked up is your C: drive? Might be related to a lack of permissions to update files (creating game profiles, or updating ini's, etc). Also, some games don't run well in these kind of environments. Try running it as administrator, see if that works.

Larsson's playing? Quality! Here's this wiki page for the Euro 2008 competition. Bloody good read. Get your stats up to speed before the start!
-
Fernando Torres. i think any team would produce results with him in the side - bloody awesome player.
-
Sorry, but nut. When you look at the quality of the top 4 of Liverpool, Chelski, Man Utd and Arsenal, and compare them to Rangers (who got outclassed by an ailing Aberdeen team) and Celtic (who didn't exactly run away with the league), they'd get taken to school week in, week out. Even with the argument of "once the revenues start rolling in", you can't buy trophies. Case in point - Chelsea. Then there's the travelling...

Fixture list from UEFA here TV channels list and fixtures hya

Moral victory? Does that come with a moral trophy and matching moral winners' medals? Chelsea didn't deserve it, they were pretty evenly matched, which is why it took penalties to decide it. If anything swayed it, it was Chelsea's appalling behaviour. Grant really needs to put a leash on his players. Every time the ref blew for something he was surrounded but arm-waving, finger-pointing blues. If i was in that position and any of those mouthy tw*ts were screaming in my face, i'd have most of them cautioned. Utter lack of respect. And for what it's worth, i don't support, or for that matter hate, any team.

I said exactly the same watching the game last night. I think the actual phrase was: "Scottish teams would get repeatedly ass-raped in the English Premier League..." The only thing exciting about Scottish football is... erm .... uh .... someone help me out here.... . .

Thx mate, yep - i've gotten as far as that. There's a few niggles, but i've almost cracked it. Mostly lack of experience on my part and an improperly configured IIS.
-
Hmm. Using a test staff account, it displays the "Connect to" dialog box - arg. Everything is default in IIS. I have set the /staff/ dir to deny students. Disabled anan access and enabled Integrated Windows auth. Ideas?
-
Thanks dude. Have checked and enabled that explicitly. Won't hurt.
-
Cheers for the heads-up. I'll have to ask Google about query-based dist groups
-
Checked it and it's enabled for the test account, so will be the same for all students. It must be a discrepancy between using "Run as" and being fully logged on. Who knows. It's not letting them in anyway, so job done
-
Pulling down registered name from OS installation?
-
I did try that earlier - disable anonymous access and enable Windows auth. When i tested it, it popped up a username and password dialog :/ Not quite what i'm after. I was, though, testing from my machine running IE as a test pupil. I'll go try on a test PC actually logged in as said test student account... Editypoo: Yep, that's the puppy. Cheers lads!

Out of interest, i had a wee dig. Porto 2004 Champions League team: Vitor Baia, Nuno Valente, Ricardo Carvalho, Jorge Costa©, Paulo Ferreira, Costinha, Nuno Maniche, Pedro Mendes, Deco, Derlei, Carlos Alberto Gomes, Dmitri Alenichev, Pedro Emanuel, Benni McCarthy 'Pool's 2005 team: Dudek, Finnan, Traore, Hyypia, Carragher, Riise, Gerrard, Luis Garcia, Alonso, Kewell, Baros, Carson, Josemi, Nunez, Biscan, Hamann, Cisse, Smicer Woulda cost them a few quid? Obviously not quite in the same league as Utd or Chelski's spending, but still... I have to admit though, i love seeing big spending teams getting humped by small teams with no budget but big hearts and teamwork. I forgot who it was, but i watched a game with 2 Italian teams many years ago, one full of superstars and one who hadn't changed their lineup in 2 years. The little team beat them. Real have tried the same - a team full of big names and big egos, but limited results (yes i know they won la liga this year though)
-
Never mind, i've created a new group, DL-Everyone, and re-named it to appear as "Everyone" and added all staff to it. Sorted.
-
That's all i could find too. No centralised option as far as i can see.
-
Been trying to search the forums to find this, but can't find it so far... It's been asked before i think.
-
Can you explain more by authenticate on entry? Where's this set up in IIS? Haven't been elbow-deep in IIS too much so far Anonymous access is set up - does disabling this force clients to authenticate?
-
I've asked Google and searched here, but i'm not quite sure what i'm looking for. At a previous employers, we used "everyone@" to send email to all staff. I've tried to create similar here (distribution group), but the server informs me that it already exists. Can't find it though. Where does it live, and does it function as i expect it to? I'd rather not test it by emailing everyone
-
Not one to nitpick, but Chelsea tried the same. e.g. £30 million signing Shevchenko didn't even get a game. I think we can agree that you need to spend a bit of money to compete at that level?

Surely a game of football can be discussed without resorting to childishness, no?
