Careful though, just because someone knows the ins and outs of the registry and knows how many volts run through his or her 12v rail doesn't make them a good teacher. You need patience, organisational skills, planning, and of course the ability to impart knowledge and skills on others in a way that they can follow and absorb. Geek != teacher (I used to teach)

Don't play leapfrog with a unicorn? The use of tabs with tab markers instead of multiple spaces/tabs in Word? Using Ctrl+K in Outlook to automatically lookup half-typed email account names? Using tabs in IE? Adding a signature/contact details to an email?

Works lovely. May update it to include FilterKeys and ToggleKeys though...

In my limited experience of Vista (normally fixing other peoples' laptops), i have only this to say: It's certainly very shiny. I've used the classic gray interface for XP for years. It's a "get stuff done" environment. I don't need everything to look so fecking glossy thanks. The constant hand-holding makes me want to cry. "Are you sure you want to install this?" "Are you sure you want to change this?" YES I'M BLOODY SURE. It remains a pointless upgrade in my opinion. Vista = XP, Now With Added Shiny!™

Ended up definitely being an issue with the 3 stage virus scan that GFI WebMon does (BitDefender, Kaspersky, Norman). Tried just using one of them in turn, same issue. Ended up turning it off, downloads work fine. Obviously it'd be nice to have this extra level of protection, but it's causing too much hassle atm and stopping people doing their jobs (or rather helping them do it even slower). Thanks for everyone's help.

Bugger, after GP-enforced changes it's not working again. Arg. Well i'll be even more God damned, it's a GFI WebMonitor feature! Wonder why it's not working as it should. Now, do i disable it...

Irony comes as standard here it seems

Was being dense, sorry. I presumed it was a built-in thing. I don't use IE at home, and only use it here for testing rendering of internet/intranet web pages. Thx for the additional info Sy. McAfee AV 8/8.5 here for reference.

Nothing to roll back to. Ended up just uninstalling the driver from Driver tab in Device Mgr then letting it re-find the driver. Did the trick. Annoying though. Back to Loud's problem
-
Well i'll be God damned. After mentioning my earlier sound problem, it's just happened here on my work PC! All looks fine in Device Mgr, but trying to play stuff doesn't work. Winamp complains of "Bad DirectSound driver". Bizarre! Oh, and apologies if this constitutes a hijack.

Think i've resolved it. Must have been an auth issue with ISA Server. Went into: Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level (on Internet Zone) and right at the bottom changed User Authentication > Logon to "Automatic Logon with current username and password". Was previously set to "Automatic logon in Intranet only". Seems to have done the trick. Now to set it for everyone....

Maybe it's an ISA Server thing then? So if you go to: http://www.connexions.gov.uk/partnerships/documents/Behaviour%20of%20Young%20People%20Reader%203.pdf Do you not get a page similar to the attached screeny in OP? Do you just get the "Save to Disk" pop up dialog?

Top of my head, this new Secure Download crap was introduced in XP SP2 as an intermediary step for downloading files, no? Supposed to keep us all safe and secure when downloading nasty files from t'interweb. Haven't been able to find much on how it's actually implemented yet.

Not sure what's getting in the way, but users are unable to download some files from websites using IE7. I tested with Firefox bypassing the proxy (ISA 2006) and it worked fine, so it leads me to believe it's ISA-related. Tested on IE7 on my PC going through proxy and can't download. The file seems to download fine, and displays the Secure Download page, but once the user is offered "Save to Disk" button, it can't go past this step. Anyone come across this? Sits here for ages:

I get intermittent problems with this too. 'Pain in the arse' is an understatement. Them having roaming profiles isn't too much of an issue, as i don't mind them customising their environment to a degree (certain things obv. locked up tight). Would deleting the local profile each logoff help this? Profiles are limited to 150MB and we don't have loads of kids, so copying lots of profiles isn't too much of a worry.

Out of interest, did this just happen recently? My home PC recently got a pile of Windows Updates from over the course of a few weeks/months (naughty i know), and it threw my sound card off. Over the last few boots it's needed fresh re-install of the drivers. Very weird. Seemed ok last night, gf was on and playing moozics. SB Live! on XP Pro SP2

They're even bloody worse in narrow city streets. I fear for my wing mirrors when passing the feckers.

Saw this a few days ago on another forum, truly scary. Imagine that coming to get ya. *shudders* What we need is a dozen of those with chainguns on the back, pop them in the back of a chinook - anyone see where i'm going with this?
