Wow!, looks really good. In fact if it works as well as it looks like it will from the above demo I'll be mighty tempted to chop my iphone in for one of these later this year. Good to see MS have learned from all the mistakes of Windows Mobile 5/6 and finally standardised the feature set, design criteria and set minimum specs for handsets. I think that'll make a massive difference and will put MS back in the game when it comes to smartphones. IMO it looks a lot better than iphoneOS, android, Windows mobile 6.5 or any other phone OS out just now from what I've seen of it so far. Shame about the current lack of flash support though.

I think the fundamental problem is one of control. At the end of the day you as a school have no control over what is posted and what materials the pupils/staff are subjected to by themselves or others on the website so I'd see it as largely irresponsible to allow pupils to use the sites. You cant really supervise what's going on and the 'what if...' scenarios would put legal responsibility of anything that happens as a result of you encouraging them to use it right at the schools door. Far better to have an internal VLE style social network IMO where you can control/view all content to keep the pupils safe. You dont need to let pupils put themselves at risk to teach them about the dangers of the internet and social networking.

YES!, there's a MASSIVE difference IMO between the composite cable that comes with the Wii and a component cable. The picture is so much sharper than the blurry composite one.

Nope. Checked this morning and that's it dead again despite the new firmware. FED UP WITH HP PRINTERS They're all about to start falling out of warranty in March so I'm gonna give HP a call ..... again..... hopefully they'll be able to suggest something more helpful this time that resetting the printer back to factory default And to top it off we've had to return another P3005 with a faulty memory formatter board They're about to fall out of warranty next month and out of the 8 on our site 2 have so far failed with the same error. Have we been unlucky or is HPs quality control really this bad these days

Looks like the update is only currently available as a direct USB patch and can't be done remotely. I've applied it to the printer in our office so I'll report back to let you know if it makes a difference. Fingers Crossed!

I think Apple have approached the iPad from entirely the wrong angle. What I was hoping for was a streamlined/svelte Macbook Air running OSX with fully integrated multitouch/keyboard to replace the keyboard and mouse. That could have made it the first truly workable laptop computer without a keyboard/trackpad. What they've delivered unforutnately is nothing more than an ipod touch with a larger screen. And given it's running the ipod OS it's never going to work as a standalone device as it doesnt have driver support for peripherals and lacks the ability to customise it or install your own software. Also will likely mean you've no easy way to copy files to and from it either so that's the music/video functionality of it pretty much nerfed aswell. I'm pretty disappointed as I think Apple were in the position to bring to market the first viable "tablet PC" for want of a better word but all they've delivered is a niche toy which isn't going to replace any of my current devices (neither PC,laptop or phone) so I cant see any point to it!

Cheers for that, I think our Guidance staff are keen on having something that does the hazard perception part of the test aswell so it would certianly be useful. I think it's actually the 2003 version of that we've got. It's a bit of a non-starter if it (as our current version does) requires the DVD in the drive to run as that implies that it's home-use only and even if not it still means you have to buy a copy for every PC you want the software on! We'd be looking for something with a site licence ideally.

It's for the pupils in our school so would need to be something that we can run on our network. Problem is typically the stuff you buy in stores is for home users only.

Are there any online Driving Theory Test websites (Free/paid) that anyone would recommend? Our PSE department are looking for something to use with our 6th years. We previously had a CD version but it's from 2003 so is kind of out of date now. Because of this I was thinking that somekind of website subscription would be ideal given the driving test is continually being updated so it's the only way we could keep up. TIA

For everyone's info it looks like the part number I had is no longer offered by HP. One of our staff members managed to shtred the existing transfer kit by pulling the toner out at an awkward angle. Wonder if that's why the existing part's been replaced due to it being badly designed? According to their parts site the new part which has replaced it is:- CC468-67927 (Replaced: CC468-67907) ITB Service Kit Any quotes on the above would be appreciated as we're still looking for the above part TIA

I'm probably being a bit harsh. It's not a bad film as such but it just feels a bit too cliched. None of the performances from the lead characters stand out as being particularly good (apart from the colonel who's quite entertaining!) and the script is a bit 'meh'. It's literally like you took the general plot-line from dances with wolves, throw in a few props and references from the matrix and aliens, mix in a few greenpeace sensibilities with some pseudo-religion, let it simmer for a couple of ours and hey presto.. Avatar. That's my opinion anyway. Yours may vary so by all means go and see it I'd definitely make a point of watching it in 3D if you can though.

That was my plan but according to some recent stories it's launch has been delayed until March Nvidia delays fermi gpu chip - The Inquirer So looks like if anyone is building a gaming PC at the moment and has a couple of hundred quid to spend on a vid card then the 5800 series will be the best you can get for the next 3 months at least.

As a film, to be honest, it's fairly generic sci-fi pulp..... BUT ..... as a technical glimpse into the future in 3d it's amazing and definitlely a preview of things to come. Sure some of the scenes give you chronic eye-strain and there's noticeable unnatural blurring between the 'layers' of 3d in some shots but when it works it's utterly amazing and unlike anything else you've seem before IMO. I think this is the main problem as you can definitely pick out parts of the picture where they've decided that this is on layer 1, this in in layer 2,etc and between these layers there seems to be a kind of weird blurring that spoils things when it rears it's head IMO. Seriously though, when it works which is only about a quarter of the time (maybe less), it's impressive to the point you can fully believe it might change the way everything else is done from now on! Anyone else been to see it?

Thanks for the firmware update Kermit. I've upgraded the firmware on one of our P2055DN's to the latest version but it's still freezing on a regular daily basis unforutnately:( Going to start throwing these P2055's into the skip if it carry's on like this. Time for another call to HP I reckon
