  1. You are running with this aren't you!!!! Believe me, when kids can't gain access to something, they soon give up, especially here. This is more for the parents, not the children. And if you think an inncoent trial such as this will turn them into computer tyrants - you are deluded!!!!
  2. I think the angle that everyone is taking is completely different from my intention. We have loads of information from CEOP, ThinkUknow, etc along with our acceptable use policy and various other material to educate the parents. The idea is not to encourage children to play the games, more about how they can't get access to anything. We have trained officers to promote vigilence for parents and to guide them in learning with their children. The idea of the 'beat the filters' is just a way of getting them into the classroom. We want to show parents that we are dpoing everything we can to ensure innapropriate material etc cannot be accessed. Also, that we do have the wellbeing of the children first and foremost. It's not meant to be an invitation to 'break' security!!!
  3. The ICT suites are already doing their thing. This is purely aimed at e-safety & safeguarding children and how we monitor their activity -
  4. Not on our network!!!!
  5. It's a combination of our RBC filters, Impero, some scripts written by us and good old fashioned diligence through tight policies and procedures
  6. I think you are taking this a little too seriously. Thee aim of the exercise is to show how good our systems are and if they manage to find a games site - what happens next, i.e administrator notified, teacher and head of year, website blocked and sanctions put in place! Nothing too onerous! It's all taking place in one computer room and as the children search, the parents will see on a projector an administrators screen showing ALL the activity going on!
  7. They can try but they won't get anywhere!! We are confident that the processes we have in place work very well. We just want to show the parents what we do and how we safeguard them!
  8. Hi We have our open evening for year 5 & 6's next week and we have decided to do something different this year. We are going to highlight how the school protects their children online whilst using the school computers, etc. But what we are going to ask the parents and children dto do is try and bypass our filters and get to a website/resource that's deemed unsuitable, i.e games, music, etc then they win a prize. It's basically to show off our tight security in the school. We actually want some of them to succeed as we will then show their parents what systems are in place for detection and then sanctions, etc. To go with this I have downloaded some CEOP and thinkuknow stuff but I was wondering if anyone had any other GOOD material that I could provide to the prospective parent/pupils on the night. Many thanks
  9. After some windows updates in the summer. Many machines reboot themselves at the logon prompt if not used for 5 minutes. Is there a solution that anyone knows of how to cure this. Many thanks
  10. For some very strange reason, it's working now. I'll be keeping an eye on this as it makes NO sense whatsoever. Many thanks for your replies.
  11. Yep! Never seen this, bizarre
  12. I've just installed a new patch panel, everythings fine. I've used my Fluke kit to establish that ALL connections are correct. But when I connect a particular connection to the switch, it does nothing. I've checked the connection from both ends, fine. I've used different patch leads to check the connection, fine. The outlet on the patch panel is fine as my kit indicates it. It's just when I connect it to the switch, no lights. Never had this before
  13. Just had contact from the following people: Website Is this legitimate or just another opportunist company? Cheers
  14. I can't ping, traceroute or access them via a web interface. They have not died, they are still functioning
  15. I was going to give that a go when school finishes - cheers
  16. I have a load of Procurve switches, mainly 2510-48/24's. They all appear to be working (no-one complaining). But the strange thing is, some will ping but most will not. Is there something obvious. Every switch is setup in exactly the same way. I've tried it from different machines and browsers but come up with the same, cannot ping. Any suggestions?
  17. You did the right thing in the end! Your daughter needs YOU and will always need you. No other man will ever replace you - you have to hold on to that. You know jumping off the bridge was not the right thing to do. I understand you still love her (she's the mother of you daughter) but as has been said, don't pressure her. She must want different things in life and as hard as it is to swallow, there's not a great deal you can do. The only thing you can do is continue to be a great father to your daughter. Also, who knows what's round the corner, next week, next year??? You know there's lot's of people on here (although never met) will be here for you. This is a VERY tough scenario for you and I'm sure all of us can help you through it in some way. Just keep on talking to us. Take care.
  18. My sister was already at the secondary school when I started (she's a teacher). The children put our names together (my sister not being married) and asked if we were related. I said yes, she was my wife - thinking this would be rather amusing. Not thinking that my sister may take offence to this, she quickly put the pupils right when she taught them. Now, some of the little darlings just call me 'Mr Incest' or or hum the theme the Incy Wincy Spider (I guess it has something to do with Incest)!!! Oh How I regret it now!!!!!!!
  19. More 'I'nsight would help!
  20. Sparkeh is right! Conservatives will cut it right back, make good what can be done. In effect the BSF will be no more, just in another guise. The real issue is to do with the 'centralisation' of services, i.e. ICT. I remember listening to the radio recently where a minister was saying it just can't work. You have to take local social/economic factors into consideration, 'one cap does not fit all' approach!!
  21. What will happen when Conservatives get in (which they will will the help of Lib Dems) and the BSF programme. They stated in their manifesto that they will halt all programmes. Anyone heard anything?
  22. How on earth can they do that?
  23. Take a look at this, the device turns wifi signals into power!!!!!! RCA AirPower charger
  24. Best thing to do is: Go for the interview (even just for the experience) If you don't get it, then you have interview experience under your belt and they may contact you in the future with other positions At the interview, you may realise this is NOT for me or visa versa Travel to the interview at the time of day you will be going, see what the commutes like then? You can't make a decision unless you have enough ammunition to weigh everything up. You never know, the office could be full of single women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But basically, as others have said, go for the interview. It's scary, but you don't have to take it! And it will hopefully make your mind up one way or another! Good luck!!!
  25. That should have had an "!" or a "?" at least - ha! ha!
