Yes, true. We love the GSuite/Chromebook combo and have been happily using them for 5+ years. It was an easy decision for us at the time because Microsoft was way behind and the Chromebooks were both cheaper and faster than the laptops. We've only kept Windows this long because of the few desktop apps that don't have online versions.

Thanks for your thoughts! I did a search on these forums but couldn't see any mention. They were founded in 2016 and if they're as good as they sound, I would expect a lot of schools to be using them. I'll contact them and see what they say.

Hi All, We've recently had issues with our server so we're looking at options to go 'serverless'. We've been using GSuite for years and we have Chromebooks. The plan is to also remove Windows and replace with CloudReady. Of course, without a printer server, how do we print? I looked at PaperCut but Mobility Print doesn't offer any reports/management as far as I can tell. The NG and MF products do but they need print servers. So I stumbled upon- https://directprint.io/ which sounds like it does pretty much what we'd need it to. Is anyone else using it? James.

And it doesn't answer the original question about seeing which students have been using Google Classroom.

Yep, Libresoft here too. Not regretted a second since switching from Junior Librarian/Reading Cloud.

WeVideo and LucidPress (https://www.lucidpress.com) I've only had a play with the free version of LucidPress so can't say how much it is for the premium. We do most of our 'Publisher' type stuff in Docs or Slides. We also have a suite of PCs so can still use Publisher. When we eventually go Windows-free, we'll look at LucidPress more seriously.

It's more like a digital portfolio for each student and their parents are connected so can get a notification whenever their child uploads some learning (they don't get to see other kids' work) We use Google Classroom too but more of an area for teachers to share information with their class, or set assignments using the G Suite apps.

We're using the paid version and they recently started giving the option of other locations for the data to be held. Ours is now UK. Not sure about the free version though- worth sending them an email.

Not yet. Worth a go, but I guess it shouldn't be surprising with a product that's near EOL. And Chromebooks are fairly cheap to buy new so most schools do that. Would it make more sense to lease the next ones we buy, or will we just end up paying more in the long run?

Got a disappointing quote from one company of just £10 per Chromebook- apparently not as desirable in the refurbished market as Windows laptops. You'd think that would be starting to change in the last couple of years and that schools with small budgets would be looking for refurb Chromebooks. We'd definitely pick a CB over a laptop. Looks like we'll keep hold of them until they refuse to work.

Hmmm, decisions decisions. Well for us to switch to CloudReady on our 55 devices, it would be $20 annually per device (about £15)- £825 pa total. Plus 55 new management licenses at about £20 each- £1100 total. Plus the time it'll take me to install on all of them.

Thanks for the info, but we don't have the 2015 model. I think I'll hang on to them for the time being. They're in good condition and are running fast enough. As others have said, it's likely the updates will continue past the EOL date.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have read online about other Chromebooks that have reached EOL and are still receiving updates. They're definitely running well enough to keep for a few more years. Perhaps we just buy some more (of a newer model) as we have space in our trolleys for an extra 40. We've got similar issues with our iPads. 16 of them are iPad 2's running 9.3.5 but still working quite well and the other 16 are Airs (1st gen) which won't be compatible with OS 13.

Hey guys, We've got a bunch of Chromebooks (42 to be exact) which we've shared around our junior school and had since 2015- they've been fantastic (The Toshiba CB30-B-104 model if anyone is interested) According to Google, the end of life is June 2020, so I'm thinking ahead and wondering what the best option is? How likely is it that Google will continue to roll out updates for them past the end of life date? How vulnerable will they be when they do stop receiving updates? Is it best to sell them off and replace them now because they'll be worthless when they do reach end of life? Any thoughts appreciated.

Hello, Is anyone else using the free version of Mosyle and finding that apps bought on the VVP are not showing in the list of available apps in Mosyle? I've got over a hundred apps that have worked fine in the past, but the one app I bought this morning is still not showing.

Yeah, same. We kept getting the wrong pupil pop up when a fingerprint was scanned. Whether that was a database error or their fingerprints were too similar, I don't know! Just switched to using pin numbers instead and recently moved to Libresoft, which I would definitely recommend!

Thanks. Sorry to sound stupid, but where are the current settings actually saved, if I'm overwiting the current .admx/l files then won't they revert back to default?

Can't seem to get it working. Downloaded the zip folder, extracted and looked in the Windows ADMX folder. There's two 'adml' files in there, neither of which are visible when attempting to add them to the GPO Editor.

Thanks. Is it just the same procedure for updating the templates as it is for installing them first time? I'm assuming all current settings will be kept in place?
