[ipad] Apple VPP/School Manager/MDM confusion
j224 replied to JordanT91's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Yeah, it's a different address to the ASM login. It's definitely the Facilitator account I'm trying to invite - it has 'facilitator' as part of the address. I've got another address for the VPP manager. Could it be that the email is @gmail.com instead of our school domain? The Faciliator Apple ID was created before we set up our current domain. -

Tried to invite the legacy VPP Facilitator but it says 'This Apple ID cannot be invited.' Does it need to be the VPP Manager instead? -
[ipad] Apple VPP/School Manager/MDM confusion

Finally got verified for ASM, after many hurdles. Do I need to invite the VPP Facilitator? It was me, and I am now the Apple Manager too. In other words- does it migrate anything useful or is it just to give the Facilitator access to the new platform, if they happen to be a different person? Next job is to sort out a token with Mosyle... -
I still don't see the use of 'ChromebookOU'. What policies are applied in there that wouldn't be in Staff OU or Students OU?
-
Even if there is a limitation, applying it to the Student OU won't matter, because the extension will only get installed on the Chromebooks which you assign to the Student OU (i.e. the DfE ones because it sounds like you don't own any other Chromebooks?)
-
If you don't have any limitations regarding the amount of installations of Umbrella you can use, then I'd personally just get rid of your shiny new OU and apply the Umbrella app/extenstion to your Student OU in the 'Apps & Extensions' section. EDIT: and assign your DfE Chromebooks to your Student OU too.
-
Think I posted just before you so you might have missed my reply on the previous page. Re. Cisco Umbrella, what are the other students using? The ones that don't have the DfE Chromebooks allocated to them?
-
I know what you're saying but I think it's over-complicating things. Windows GPO was always a nightmare. I'm glad we've moved away from that now. I was never sure whether to set something in device or user because there would be so many crossovers. Google feels a lot simpler to me. We've got: -main domain OU -Staff OU -Students OU -Cohort 2017 -Cohort 2018 -Cohort 2019 -Cohort 2020 So we could have separate settings for each year group if we wanted. Each OU has its own 'User & Browser settings' and 'Device Settings' that we can set. The children inherit the ones from the parents. I can see no advantage of having another OU for devices to only set device settings.
-
I think so... I'm trying to understand your setup. We don't have a 'Device OU'. The OUs that you see when you go to the 'Users' section from the main admin dashboard are exactly the same as the OUs that you see when you go to 'Devices > Chrome > Devices'. So when I enrol a new Chromebook, it appears in the devices list and then I assign it to either the Staff OU or Student OU, depending on who will be using it. It will then pick up the settings I've set for that particular OU.
-
We just have our main domain as the Parent OU and then Staff OU and Student OU as 'children' of that. So obviously anything we want blocked/unblocked for everyone, we would do at the top level and the child OUs inherit that. Then we can fine tune the student OU to block anything that we'd like staff still able to have. For example, the students might have a different wallpaper applied to their devices. They also have different apps pinned.

All of what DGardiner said. Also useful to choose which apps to force install and 'pin' to the shelf (taskbar) by going to Devices > Chrome > Apps & Extensions

[ipad] Apple VPP/School Manager/MDM confusion
j224 replied to JordanT91's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
It says I can't use login to Apple School Manager with my VPP Facilitator account. If I create a new ASM account and invite the VPP Faciliator, will it bring across all of the purchased apps, etc? -
Because they don't have home WiFi. So they're trying to login as detailed here- https://m.businessdirect.bt.com/Images/vendors/bt/ED-1059314-free-wi-fi-landing-page/BT%20Wi-fi%20User%20Guide.pdf But the Chromebook isn't loading the BT login page, so they can't get as far as logging into the Chromebook.
-
Has anyone had issues with Chromebooks connecting to BT WiFi hotspots? We've loaned a Chromebook to a student to use at home but when they click the BT WiFi hotspot, it doesn't load the browser page to enter their BT login. So they can't properly connect to the internet, and therefore, can't log into the Chromebook. I suggested briefly tethering to their phone to get logged into the Chromebook and then switch back to the BT one. But they are PAYG and said they can't tether.

I agree with TechMonkey. Seems odd that they would give you CloudReady devices. We got given Chromebooks. You'll need to contact whoever supplied them to you to find out about the CloudReady licensing. They must have the admin details for you to login to Neverware and download a fresh copy of CloudReady onto USB.
-
No, they don't. It just shows a link where the teacher has posted the voice note, which takes them to a separate page to listen to it.
-
Yeah, exactly. I don't see what the issue is with students knowing their first name. When the students find out in our school, they have a little chuckle for a few seconds and then they move on. They're told to use Mr/Miss/Mrs when speaking to us.
-
I dragged to reorder them and it's never reset in the few years that I've been using Classroom.
-
Is there a reason why they want to hide their first names?
-
Love the pun. And I agree completely. We've had hardly any issues at all.
-
Another vote for Libresoft.
-
Only trouble with the 'Force Google Drive' option is it doesn't allow them to change the name of the file at the point of downloading it, and also can't specify which folder within their Drive to add it to. So it's a case of finding the file after it's downloaded to rename and move. I prefer the 'Set Drive as default, but allow user to change' option.
-
I've found this too. The Files app doesn't recognise Office documents as files that are compatible with Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. But like you say, you're able to open by going to Drive instead.

Junior Librarian 'circulate has not been unlocked on this computer'
j224 replied to Koldov's topic in Cloud Services
Hi Cookie115, To be honest, I can't remember. I think it's likely to be related to the settings of the Librarian login if it's not got administrator privileges. There were many other annoying issues with Junior Librarian. We've been using Libresoft since the beginning of 2019 and haven't looked back.
